Just got my final issue of Dragon (I know, I'm slow) and there's an ad in there for Gencon Australia 2008. This is great, I can do a roadtrip to Brisbane and I have like a year to plan it. I've never had the opportunity to go to GenCon before, obviously.
Any Paizoans thinking of going at this early stage? I assume the Aussies are up for it. It would be fantastic to see some of the other folks too, if you could make the journey...

I saw that - and was excited. But Brisbane? C'mon man, surely it should be in Sydney! All the good stuff's in Sydney (like APEC).
In all seriousness, I'd like to go, but I think a trip to Brisbane might be difficult for me, giving various factors. But if a bunch of us were going ... I might try to get there.

I only just heard about this a couple of days ago also.
I'm thinking it would be fun to go to as well (although in all seriousness I agree with Mothman; it should have been in Sydney as it's more central and accessible to everyone on the East Coast & NZ), but at this early stage it is just a wish. I will have to see what's going down a little closer to the actual event before I make a firm decision.

News of Gencon Oz has been around for a while - there's been mention of it at every Melbourne Con I've attended over the last year, and I've also seen it mentioned on message boards, maxminis for example - but it's good to see it get wider circulation in the pages of Dragon magazine.
Any big convention outside of Melbourne would seem a good opportunity to book a holiday around. I tried really hard to get to Spring Revel Down Under last year in Sydney, but I was already committed to visiting family in Adelaide around that time, so the dates didn't quite work out.
We'll see how thing go, closer to the date.

That's what I thought. Canberra is pretty far from Brisbane, but I like Brissy. Its warm, and what better reason to visit than a giant game convention?
I'm planning to hop the Tasman to go to GenCon Oz. It'll actually be my first trip to Australia (I've only lived in NZ 15 years...)
That's the spirit! The rest of you lukewarm worrywarts should listen to that Giant...

Heh. True, true ... Unfortunately I've already booked a holiday north for earlier in the year, not sure I can afford another trip up there in July. But you raise some good points Kahoolin. You going then?

At this stage yes. I can see how finances could be a problem though. The only thing that would stop me would be if the tickets were just too expensive. I have friends in Brisbane so I'm hoping they still live there next year...
I love travelling long distances because I hate my job and it makes me feel like I have no responsibilities :)
