Orcus on the Cover of the New MM

4th Edition

Scarab Sages

If you check out this interview with Chris Perkins, you will find the best pics of the new covers that I have yet seen. On the third page you will find Orcus on the cover of the MM. I wonder if this means that they are harkening back to older editions wherein greater beings were in the Monster Manual. At least I think they were.

Just in 1st edition, which had archdevils (and dukes) and demon lords (and princes) in the Monster Manual.

Yeah I noticed that too. Personally, I don't think individual beings belong in the basic MM. But it would be weird to have him on the cover but not actually in the book.

Since they seem so fixated on Tier Levels, I was surprised that they didn't release three MM to match each tier, one each for Heroic, Paragon and Epic.

I noticed that Perkins said,

"Other classic campaign settings may be revisited in print product as demand warrants, but not as full-blown product lines. Most of the support for these less-popular campaign settings will occur on D&D Insider, in the form of articles, wikipedias, and the like."

Personally, I think it would suck if they only put new Greyhawk material on the D&D Insider. Hopefully, they will be inundated with calls for a printed product and will actually listen.

I was somewhat intrigued by the idea of including more epic content in the core rules of the game.

I'm sort of an old-timer. The original MM had Demogorgon, Asmodeus, Orcus, and quite a few others.

It don't bother me :)

'Specially when the players get cocky and go hunting Arch-devils ... ^_^ " Whaddya mean I'm dead ?! "

God, do I love those covers.
