Shalelu Andosana

Rise of the Runelords

Sorry, 2 years later and I'm responding to this post: personally, I did like the original artwork of Shalelu.

Anyway, my group is finally about to finish the 2nd module but only one character was from the original group that rescued Shalelu (the others were all killed in previous encounters).

I'm trying to figure out how to re-inject her into the game and not create a huge reality gap. So far, I'm leaning towards a self guided "dream", but trying desperately to figure out why Sandpoint might have sent her in search of her wayward heroes...

My other thought is to create a new character that the mayor "trusts" to send with the party but it just seems to add too many hearings that I'm not ready to deal with.

Any help at this point is appreciated.

Are you sure you mean Shalelu, and not Ameiko? I'm just about to finish Burnt Offerings, and I don't remember Shalelu needing rescuing at all (obviously that might be different in your game).

Spoiler:
In my game Shalelu was given the job of guarding the rope bridge to ensure no goblins escaped from Thistletop, and was almost killed when Brathazamus fled from the PCs and came through her. He escaped (and will re-appear later), and I was going to have the PCs find her dead when they surfaced until I remembered she has a role to play in Hook Mountain. So she escaped death for the time being

Lord Mayor Grobaras is a very greedy man. He needs Fort Rannick helped out, and he doesn't want to pay for the kind of standing military force that would cover this. (We won't look too closely at the economics involved. ;) ) Any help he can get for free, such as from an elf wandering the Hinterlands, he'll take. If she can serve as a guide to this other group of heroes he's sending out to the fort then so much the better.

Does this need to involve hearings? Why not just send them out together?

Thanks for the reminder! - I'm at the same point and in the same situation. My party is back at Sandpoint however, wintering (they think), so it shouldn't be hard to have Shalelu recontact them a couple times. A bit tougher if they're in Magnimar and not going back.

Depending on the feel of your game, she could meet them on the way there in a "What are *you* doing here?" moment. This could also happen if they send word to Sandpoint about where their going, and she catches wind of it.

She may have a contact in the Magnimar army/guard that knows she was looking for him, and passes word to her about the silence and/or the PCs.

Shalelu's levels in Hook Mountain Massacre seem too low to me. She is portrayed as being a fairly experienced scout and survivalist when the party first meets her, I would start her out at those levels right at the first adventure. Of course, my party doesn't believe in asking NPCs to come with them on these kinds of missions and the adventure has her go off to scout out the other goblin tribes, so I didn't make her available to help with Thistletop in the first place.

I think she is statted at exactly that level in this point of the campaign so she might be a good fit for a cohort, if someone were to take the Leadership feat.

I have tried to keep the whole story web in mind when dealing with the NPCs. I had Shalelu in Magnimar checking on Jakardros' whereabouts. Since one on the party member's was pursuing her romantically it worked out. Even had her making a illusionary appearance in Skinsaw to test the PCs resolve to pursue her. Where Foxglove left her bow (which he stole from her) in the middle of the road south of Sandpoint. When they got to the mansion they were looking everyplace for her. I love pulling their chain sometimes.

Correct; we included Shalelu at those levels to make her a good cohort prospect.

In my campaign, Shalelu joined the party at Thisletop as a backup for the characters. I like that NPC so much that I modified a miniature and painted it like her. Here's the link.

Just a quick note to say 'Thank you' to Tamago for the stats. For a STR 13 3rd level character, that's a wicked melee build! Nice job! :)

At least I don't have to worry about her stats for tomorrow's session.

Thanks again!

(Oh, and I like the longer ears. One of my group has commented on them in-character! (Shalelu wasn't impressed..) )

JDD

A bit late to the party, but I have to say that I think it's fun, in light of this thread, that in Jade Throne

Spoiler:
Shalelu is sensitive about the length of her ears.

You are a little late to this party: You necro'd a 9-year old thread whose most recent post was from six years ago.

Just to add something of use: My stats for a L3 version of Shalelu, based on her stats from Jade Regent.

I deliberately built her stats such that she would not likely overshadow the PCs.
