Male personality Warforged Artificer (5)

"Shinus, could you tend to Aldren and Hathir's wounds? They were injured in combat, and I would prefer not dipping into my emergency supply of restorative items." Mender turns to look at Hathir, and continues speaking in his deep voice. "As for you. I believe you are on the correct track. When you have completed your information gathering, let the rest of us know the situation. If this creature proves informative, we may be able to avoid further ambush."

Forgot to take the map, can we assume I grabbed it at the same time as the antitoxin and the sending stones? If so:

Mender takes the map from his pouch and starts to pore over it.

Mender will attempt to figure out the group's current location with the map.

Male Human Rogue 4 / Game Designer 1 / Dungeon Master 5

Yep, you have the map.

For Mender:

Spoiler:
The map shows that you are only a short distance away from a cliff that overlooks the small valley that the Temple of Kha'shazul is located in.

Male personality Warforged Artificer (5)

"We are near the Temple of Kha'shazul, so our main objective is nearly within sight. Barring any more interruptions by the locals, we should be arriving presently."

With this, Mender folds up the map and stows it away, looking around to see how the rest of the party is doing.

Male Human Knight 5

Aldren scans the surroundings and, seeing no other immediate threats, nods the all clear to his companions.

When healing arrives, Aldren directs Shinus to the wizard first.

"These quarrels are only flesh wounds. I've had worse."

Male Human Monk 4 & Dragonmark Heir 1

Kaezen will take the four small clay bottles, the onyx amulet adn the hollow reed back to Mender.

"Mender, their leader had these, along with some other weaprony. Would you care to examine them, while I scout down the trail?"

Kaezen will then move up the trail, moving stealthily and keeping an eye out for more lizardmen. I'll move up to 150' down the trail, and then wait there for a moment before returning to inform Mender of what I saw, if anything

Male personality Warforged Artificer (5)

"Yes, thank you Kaezen." Mender takes each object individually and begins to examine them very closely, feeling them with his hands and closing his eyes and concentrating momentarily on each of them.

Mender takes a close look, and will use Artificer Knowledge on each of the objects to see whether or not they are magical.

Bottle roll: (1d20+8=24)
Amulet Roll: (1d20+8=15)
Reed Roll: (1d20+8=18)

Beating DC 15 allows me to know whether or not these are magical objects, so unless there are further modifiers, I should know whether or not the objects are magical.

Male Human Rogue 4 / Game Designer 1 / Dungeon Master 5

for Mender:

Spoiler:
From what you can deduce, the amulet is the only magical object that was found on the leader.

for Kaezen:

Spoiler:
The trail slowly widens and eventually (about 120 feet from the ambush site) reaches a cliff about forty feet in height. A narrow trail winds down the cliff face and continues on another couple hundred feet towards a large clearing. Resting in the middle of the clearing is a large stone temple with a column-lined portico and two domes at either end. Steam rises out of open windows on the roof.

Situated in front of the temple are numerous thatched huts, movement visible among them. The huts are situated in two sets of four. One set of huts is much larger than the other set, and what appears to be a large metal cage with a large something inside sits near them.

Male Human Monk 4 & Dragonmark Heir 1

Kaezen is going to continue holding his position and observing.

Male Gnome Druid 5th

Reverts to his Gnome form and tends to the wounds of Aldren first, casting Vigor, lesser for 15 points of damage cured over 15 rounds, then attends to Hathir with a touch of his vigor wand for 11 points over 11 rounds.
"So what ya got there Mender?" he looks over as mender is pondering over the lizards items.

Male personality Warforged Artificer (5)

"Hm? Oh, yes. These. I have four vials containing some kind of liquid. I will be honest, I do not often "drink" as you non-'forged do. So I am somewhat at a loss. However, this amulet is magical, though what kind of magic I am not certain. I require some more materials in order to properly determin its properties. And finally, we have this hollow reed. Perhaps some sort of whistle or call? I cannot activate it in any case."

Mender turns to the rest of the group: "If anyone else wishes to examine these items feel free. For now, however, I believe we should move on and find out if Kaezen has discovered anything."

Male Elf Wiz 5

Hathir's eyes bulge as Shinus tends to Aldren. "Yes, please do see to the stalwart knight first," he says coughing up droplets of blood and grasing the arrow sticking from his chest. "This isn't serious at all!"

Once the arrow has been removed and Hathir feels his skin mending beneath his tunic he takes a deep breath filled with relief. He looks down at the torn garment and moves his hand over it mumbling words in draconic and elvish and the fibers in the tunic reweave themselves leaving no trace of the arrow hole.

"Let me see those," he snaps at Mender, snatching the clay vials from its hand.

Hathir makes some spellcraft checks (DC 25) to determine if the vials hold potions.
Spellcraft (1d20+16) = 32, 30, 17, 17 (one for each vial)

Male Human Rogue 4 / Game Designer 1 / Dungeon Master 5

For Hathir:

Spoiler:
From what you can tell, these vials do not contain magical potions. They all seem to be filled with the same brownish, foul-smelling brew.

Male Elf Wiz 5

"Ugh!" Hathir turns his nose up at the vials previously snatched from Mender and shoves them back into the warforged's hands. "They're nothing but filth in bottles. You take them."

Flicking the hair from his face he darts his head around in disgust. "Where did Kaezen get off to now? Just like an Orien to dissappear when you need him."

Male Gnome Druid 5th

"I will track his progress" Shinus shifts into dog form and begins tracking the trail of Kaezen.
Survival (Track) 1d20+12=27
He begins sniffing the trail and moves off towards where he think he went.

Male Human Monk 4 & Dragonmark Heir 1

If Kaezen hears/spots the party coming, he will signal to them so they know his location.

Male personality Warforged Artificer (5)

Mender will shrug and then follow Shinus.

Male Human Rogue 4 / Game Designer 1 / Dungeon Master 5

Everyone travels down the road a bit, and a signal from Kaezen clues you in on his location. You all can see the edge of a cliff up ahead. A small trail winds down it towards a large clearing where the jungle gives way to an open space dominated by a huge stone structure. The Temple of Kha'shazul is a mass of vine-choked granite walls and columns. Two stone domes mark either end of its oblong shape, and a columned portico juts out from the temple's entrance. Steam billows from somewhere within the temple, venting through high open windows 20 feet above the ground.

Situated in front of the temple are two clusters of about 4 thatched huts each, one group composed of much larger huts than the other. Movement and lines of campfire smoke can be seen among the huts, and a large metal cage is visible near the group of large huts.

Male Human Knight 5

Aldren takes in the scene, scanning the landscape for any more of the lizardfolk lurking about.

Spot: 17 + 0 = 17

Finally, he nods towards the huts and smoke. "What do you make of this?" he asks no one in particular.

"Probably more Lizardmen, although I haven't seen any come or go since I've been watching."

"What do you think? Should we scout it out, or just go in fast and hard? Either way we need to get inside that temple..."

Male Human Rogue 4 / Game Designer 1 / Dungeon Master 5

There seems to be two different sorts of creatures down in the camp: the smaller poison dusk lizardfolk and a blackscaled, ogre-sized variety. Right now, they seem to be oblivious to your presence... though they might spot you at any moment. The shrubbery Kaezen has hidden in would be a good place to plan your assault.

Male Gnome Druid 5th

Reverts back to a gnome
"I think we should get a better look at these creatures, see whats in that cage."

Male Elf Wiz 5

Hathir sidles his way behind his companions. "You have to be kidding me? Charge into that mess? I don't think so. I'm not going to just put my head on the chopping block. We need a plan, or at the very least more information."

Staring at the village he asks, "How many are there, and what do we know about these lizard filth? What can we use to our advantage?" Suddenly his deadpan look breaks into a wicked grin. "This one can change shape," he says nodding toward Shinus. "I suggest you grow some feathers and fly down there for a closer look. Either that or we wait until I can extract some meaningful information from our sleeping guest."

Male Gnome Druid 5th

"Ya that could be a sound plan, but I think they will notice a eagle as an unfamiliar creature here, I do only have the one form. But I will try and get a closer look."

With a sudden flash he jumps and transforms, he will arc away form the party and come and take a huge arc away from the group to come upon the Temple from the right of the group and will try to fly unnoticed amongst the foliage and if possible land somewhere at the top of a tree and stay concealed and try to get a better look. This way if he is spotted the attention will be drawn away from the group.

For Shinus:

Spoiler:
The trail continues from the cliff northeast towards the temple. Two short trails lead off from the main trail towards two clusters of huts. The cluster on the southeast side of the trail leading to the temple is comprised of small huts, barely big enough to fit a human comfortably. Near the small huts, you see two of the halfling-sized poison dusk lizardfolk near a campfire. One seems to be brewing something over the fire and the other sits chopping up what appear to be mushrooms arranged on a small table made from a tree stump.

The second cluster of huts, on the northwest side of the trail, is comprised of large huts that could fit a number of humans each. Over by the large huts, two ogre-sized blackscale lizardfolk sit cutting up what appears to be the body of a six-legged, gaunt panther with two tentacles jutting out from its shoulderblades.

A large cage stands just to the west of the cluster of large huts. The large, white furred beast inside grips the cage with what looks like four big hands, shaking it violently. (Knowledge [nature or arcana] to identify)

Up on the temple's portico, two blackscale lizardfolk stand at either side of a creature with the upper torso of a powerfully-built reptilian humanoid and the lower body of a four-legged wingless dragon. (Knowledge [arcana] to identify the tauric creature.)

Male Human Student (5)

Hey guys, I'm sorry to say that I have to bow out of this game. It was easy to join a bunch of games late this summer when I was working in an office, but now I find I don't have nearly as much time to check online, and often do not want to because I have other things that I have/want to do. Again, very sorry about this guys, and hopefully you'll be able to find a replacement for Mender (or use him as a DMPC) so that the party doesn't suffer.

Good luck, everyone.

Male Human Monk 4 & Dragonmark Heir 1

It sucks when real life interferes with gaming, lol. Anyways, I'm fine with Mender being a DMPC... or if you wanted one of us to run him, at least for the next bit, I don;t mind digging out my ECS and getting a refresher on how infusions work again

Kaezen will wait for Shinus to report back with his scouting. I'm assuming Shinus will share everything

"We don't need to fight everything here, we just need to get inside the temple, right? And it looks like one of those half-dragon things there in front... Hathir, do you have magic that could get us close undetected? Or at least you, Mender and Aldren; Shinus and I have other ways of travelling if necessary."

"If we can sneak inside, great. If not, I don't think the lizardfolk would be a factor if we can quickly defeat that half-dragon beast. Its probably their totem or something, and they should scatter or be cowed if we can defeat it." Kaezen really doesn't know if his assumptions are correct, so anyone else can feel free to make a Knowledge check and correct me ;-)

"What do you think?"

Male Elf Wiz 5

Sorry to hear it Nameless. Sad to see you go, but we all realize that Real Life (TM) can bog you down sometimes. Anyway, as to the running of Mender, I'll agree with Talion09.

The following also assumes that Shinus comes back to the group and describes what he saw.

Knowledge [arcana] for the white furred beast (1d20+12) = 19
Knowledge [arcana] for the tauric dragonoid (1d20+12) = 29

Hathir listens to Kaezen while quickly scanning through his own knowledge as to what exactly Shinus saw in the lizard camp. He nods in agreement as Kaezen mentions the need to get into the temple. "I might have something that will work. I can not guarentee we will slip by unnoticed of course," he says rolling his eyes slightly at the bulky Mender and armored Deneith. "A big, scarry diversion from the forest perhaps? A rival tribe attacking, ...or maybe even a feral dinosur?" Hathir chuckles to himself, tapping his wand of enlargement in the palm of one hand, "hmmm, if I can get close enough, I might even be able to give them something real to worry about."

"But sneaking by this filth is only half of our problem. I don't want them down our back side should they catch on. That being the case I suggest we slit Mr. Sleepy's throat behind us and and hide it and its friends corpses. Still I would like very much to know if they simply stumbled upon us in the jungle, or if they knew we were coming somehow... but if it can't be helped..." Hathir gives a shrug.

How close is the village to the temple and the vegetation? Is there enough vegetation that we could sneak around the village and get to the temple, or is the temple out in the open?

Male Gnome Druid 5th

Knowledge Nature 1d20++8=23, sorry about the lack of posts, been distracted by other things but am back now

Shinus arrives back at the party and reverts to a gnome and informs them of everything he saw.

"I could suggest that if one of us could get in there and maybe open that cage with the creature in it, either through magical or mundane means, that could create enough of a diversion to get us in unnoticed. Maybe some of your magics could help reinforce this diversion as well." As he turns to Hathir.

Male Human Knight 5

After Hathir's perturbed expression regarding himself and the warforged, Aldren speaks:

"I am afraid that stealth is not one of my strong suits. However, my armor allows me enough movement that I will not be slowing us down any. Once we are at the entrance, I can hold off any attackers that might try to follow us in until we can get to a doorway or something."

Male Human Rogue 4 / Game Designer 1 / Dungeon Master 5

Hathir's knowledge:

Spoiler:

Hathir does not know what the white-furred thing is, but he knows the tauric creature is a dracotaur, a draconic hybrid creature with the ability to spit a gob of fiery spittle with a range increment of 20 feet. Being related to dragons, it is immune to paralysis and sleep.

Shinus's knowledge:

Spoiler:

Shinus knows the white-furred beast is a girallon, a magical beast that has the ability to rend the flesh of those he hits with multiple claw attacks.

The vegetation is about 30 feet away from the walls of temple save the front side, where a large clearing accompanies the portico that juts out towards the lizardfolk camp. The largest huts are nearest to the portico, only about 40 feet to the south-southwest of the tip of the 55 foot long covered portico. The small huts are further away, about 100 feet to the southeast of the portico.

Male Elf Wiz 5

"The furred creature, I am not familiar with. The other beast that Shinus describes, I know well." Hathis says with distaste. "It's a dracotaur, a lizard like centaur with draconic blood. It's immune to sleep and paralysis, so half of my offensive spells will be useless against it. And I also believe it can spit fire."

Hathir pauses for a few moments and drums his fingers against his tunic. He turns to Kaezen and Aldren and says, "I still believe that stealth and subterfuge are our best options. The dracotaur can still be fooled if I create an illusion on the far side of the clearing. When their attention is shifted, we make our way to the temple..."

"That works well for me. Shinus, do you think that furred creature is something trained as a guardian beast? Or maybe if we let it loose, it would run amok and help create chaos for us to slip in and grab what we came for?"

Male Human Rogue 4 / Game Designer 1 / Dungeon Master 5

Mender nods. "If we could use the furred creature for that purpose, it would lessen the danger we ourselves would face..."

For Shinus (forgot to give this bit of knowledge earlier):

Spoiler:
Shinus knows that Girallons are highly dangerous, wild-tempered, and quite hard to tame.

Male Elf Wiz 5

Would the furry beast count as a humanoid for the purposes of the Enlarge spell?

Unfortunately, it wouldn't :(

Male Human Monk 4 & Dragonmark Heir 1

"Aldren, do you think you could take that Dracotaur thing in a fight? With the primitive culture the lizardfolk usually have, they might respect us if you challenge it to a duel."

"Or, if Hathir wants to drop an Enlarge on me, I'll dimension leap in and challenge it. Meanwhile, the rest of you can get in there and keep everyone else busy if they don't respect the 1 on 1 challenge"

"I can use the power of Orien to Dimension Door myself and one or two others (2 medium or 1 large) to the front of the temple. You and myself, and Shinus can fly in his eagle form. Hathir & Mender can move up and provide support from a distance?"

"In any case, I'm confident that the two of us could take the dracotaur and those ogre-sized lizardfolk." I don't actually know, I'm just cocky ;-)

"Is everyone agreed with this plan?"

If we do this, I'm taking a potion of Mage Armor first. And asking Hathir for an enlarge spell

Male Elf Wiz 5

Hathir's eyes widen as Kaezen runs through his latest plan. "Let's keep that one in reserve. Watch and learn boys, watch and learn." Hathir moves up to the edge of the clearing, taking care to keep himself hidden in the underbrush. Once there he begins moving his fingers in intricate patterns and whispering words in both elvish and draconic.

Nothing happens at first, at least nothing perceptable. Then on the far side of the clearing some of the thick foliage moves. Then more. Finally th forest breaks out in hoots and roars as green scaled lizardfolk jump out and begin hailing arrows upon the village.

Hathir casts Major Image on the other side of the clearing. He will maintain his concentration on the image and change it based on the reactions in the village. Once the village mobilizes to rrepulse the attack, he will make the fake lizardmen retreat into the jungle.

As the entire camp of blackscale and poison dusk lizard folk begin jumping up and grabbing their weapons, ready to meet their perceived threat, Mender places his hand on Aldren's armor and releases a flow of magic into the metal, infusing it with bear's endurance. "You will need this added stamina in the fight to come."

Aldren gains a +4 enhancement bonus to Constitution for 5 minutes.

Roll initiative, so after everyone in the party takes an action in the surprise round, we can start the actual battle! :)

Male Human Monk 4 & Dragonmark Heir 1

I got an 18 for initiative.

During the surprise round, I'm drinking a potion of Mage Armor and keeping an eye on what the 2 ogre-sized lizardfolk and the Dracotaur are doing.

Male Human Knight 5

Init: 15 + 1 = 16 for me.

Aldren nods in appreciation to the warforged and quickly downs the vial of antitoxin he was given. It would not do to succumb to the vile poisons of these creatures at such a critical moment. He steadies his shield, readies his pick, and waits for the moment to charge.

Antitoxin gives +5 vs. poisons for an hour, bringing my total Fort save against poisons up to a ridiculous +14.

Male Elf Wiz 5

Initiative 1d20+2 = 6
Hathir will continue to concentrate on the illusion and make it interact with the lizardfolk in the village.
