Need Shopping Suggestions for Stocking up 3.5 Books

4th Edition

The other day I read in a thread here about on-line book sellers discounting 3.5 Edition books now that 4th is announced. Sounds a bit pre-mature, and now I can't find the reference.

Where do you shop for books? Has anyone found a better discount on 3.5 books than what Amazon, Overstock or Buy.com offer? My distinctly Un-FLGS is still stocked with 1st & 2nd Edition books that they are selling for cover price.

Thanks for the pointers,

Rez

My guess is that you will have to wait for a while longer.

4e is just *announced* and so 3.5 books will certainly not grow cheaper before 4e is out and "4e replacement" is available.

You might mean 3.5 .pdfs which are offered cheaper now and then. There is no ongoing 3.5 discount I'd know about, though.

If you are interested in which OGL/ D&D 3.5e books are recommendable look for the various threads about that topic which sprang up during the announcement phase of Pathfinder.

I remember "Advanced Bestiary" (a template book by Green Ronin Publishing), "Tome of Horrors I" (1e/ 2e monsters brought up to date to 3.5 by Necromancer Games), and various D&D 3.5 core supplements being mentioned there.

Best Bargain Books on ebay...seriously, ridiculous prices on v3.5 books. Caveat emptor: BBB's books are all remaindered wholesale books, which means they all include a Magic Marker dot or line drawn across the binding. Usually, these books are truly in mint, new/like-new condition, but occasionally...so, with that said, if you want an autographed book, Paizo's about it (I haven't seen any on ebay, and autographed books on ebay are a true you-never-know situation), and if you want to be sure the books you buy are mint, Paizo's the best--I've returned quite a few books to Amazon and B&N.com for glaring defects in condition, but not a one to Paizo.

That's what I would have expected, but I specifically remember a reference in a 4 Ed. thread about books going cheap. Too many threads now to find it again, though, so I started this one.

I know. I checked the "What Works with Pathfinder" thread and various "I'm Moving and Can Only Take ## Books" or "If Stuck on a Desert Island What ## Books Would You Bring" threads for ideas. Generally I'm not one for splatbooks, but if they're going cheap then ...

If you want cheap 3.5 books check out ebay. To get the truly cheap books, I think you'd have to keep a close eye on ebay for individuals, (not stores), selling their old 3.5 books as they update to 4e. So it may not be for 12 months or more until you get the really cheap books.

The first four 3.5 books I would recommend getting are (in rough order)

Tome of Battle: The Book of 9 Swords - Gives the Melee guys some much needed power
Players Handbook II - Many, Many great, new options for characters
Spell Compendium - Soooo many spels!!
Magic Item Compendium - Sooo many Magic Items. And cool, and well priced as well.

After that, basically add the various "Complete" and "Races of" to taste. Basically, the later Completes are much better than the earlier completes.

Of course, if you play in either Eberron or the Forgotten Realms, pick up whatever source books you are missing for those settings as well.
