The 4th "Circle of Hell" Edition...

4th Edition

I now realize that there is a forum devoted entirely to the 4th edition, so I am moving it here.

I hate WOTC. I believe that most of their products are crap. On top of that, they feel a need to put out crappy products every month. They have run out of ideas for 3.5 edition, so it now time to put out a 4th edition, so they can re-release all of the crappy 3.5 edition products, which were issued to replace the crappy 3rd edition products...it goes on and on in an endless circle...

HOWEVER, I hope that the 4th edition is an improvement over 3.5, so companies like Paizo can put out quality material through the OGL. Thats it...

Ummm.... good for you?

How many of these "I hate WOTC, I hate 4th Edition" threads do we need? Sheesh!

Do you feel better now?

At LEAST one thread per person. Maybe two threads per person will be enough.

Aww, and here I was hoping for another Fiendish Codex, based on the works of Dante, to be announced. What a let down.

Huh. Maybe people didn't post on your original thread because they are sick of the issue and there are already 50 other threads on the topic.

While you're at it, make sure to post the same thing again in the D&D forum, the off-topic forum, and the customer service forum. You want to make sure that every person will come across some form of your thread and its very clever title (though you do lose points for not putting a $ in there somewhere).

Well,,,, let me jump on this bandwagon.
the "wizards of the co$t" can suck it and kiss me where it smells funny!
RAH! okay, I am better now.

I won't buy any of 4th ed until I know it's good. can anyone remember how bad the 3.0 psi handbook sucked? that kind of kludge is exactly what I expect. Tob:9s and ComScound to "fix" the non spell casters with their own powers... I am sure that there is a good idea in all that, but realy- a set of special powers based on the weapon you choose to master?
Some people just aren't meant to CAST SPELLS.

For Sebastian $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ (He's so clever)
Although, I may try 4th edition when it comes out. Now that I've gotten over the anger stage of my 3.5 grief.

4th Ed? When did they announce it?

It's news to me. Maybe you should post a thread (or hell, why stop with one, try posting 8-10) about it.

Heh heh....works fer me.

Hmmm....do you think they'll do a 4e. Spelljammer? ;)

Liberty's Edge

If I start a 4e. Spelljammer gag thread, should that go in the 4e. section or off topic?

All kidding aside, they did announce that they will be providing support for old settings at the rate of one a year.

It's better than nothing!

Both, unless you spell it as $pelljammer, in which case it should also go in the Rise of the Runelords forum.

If the editors do not respond to your thread within an hour of its posting, make sure to threaten to quit buying Paizo products.

Hmm....Plane$cape, Forgotten Realm$$$, Raven$oft, hee hee...gits me in my tickly rib every damn time.

Guess I'll start one in every thread section and Gary Teter can delete the ones that don't belong.

How many points for saying, "$ebastian"?

Yeah, make that code slave do something really useful like deleting threads instead of idling around all day and doing such nonsense like debugging the subscriber database.

Yeah, but they won´t be done with it before 5e comes out.

2008: Forgotten Realms
2009: Eberron
2010: Dragonlance (think of the animated movie - merchandising)
2011: Greyhawk (ok, wishful thinking - FOUR YEARS into the future..)
2012: 5 ed

That leaves Oriental Adventures, Spelljammer, Al Qadim, Birthright, Ravenloft, Mystara, Dark Sun, Maztica in stasis.

Just speculating, of course.

Well, I disagree about the 3.0/3.5 running out of ideas. 3e was flawed, in my opinion, and hope that they fixed the holes. The reason that they put out the same product over and over (2e Brown Books, 3.0 Brown Books, 3.5 Brown Books) is because they know that people will not want to convert their existing books to the edition. The new book gives updates, conversions, and new information. They are a business, it's their job. It's your wallet, do with it what you will.

Don't forget, there are other games out there. Some more detailed, some less. Any way you look at it, you always have your old books. Unlike what the guys at Best Buy say, your Computer/RPG System is never obsolete. To be truely obsolete, you must not be able to do something that you want to do when you want to do it! So, if all you do is send emails and print pictures, your computer will work until it dies. Same with your RPG, except your RPG will probably be around MUCH longer!

After all, GURPS is on 4th edition after 22 years. Hero/Champions on 5th (and a revised) since 1981. WEG did 2 versions of Star Wars d6. I believe CoC is on the sixth revision since 1981. Alternity didn't last long, but was on a 1st Revised (with a PDF of additional "modifications"). White Wolf has also been ported to GURPS and now d20. Truely, D&D has been through 13 "editions" (Basic, 1e, 2e, Player's Option, SAGA System, 3e, Call of Cthulu, 3.5, d20 Modern, Star Wars, Star Wars Revised, Star Wars Saga, and 4th), not including Chainmail and the Basic line, all since 1974. Each one working off the other to make the experience better.

I have yet to see a revision of a game that hasn't resulted in better gameplay (with the exception of the SAGA system for Dragonlance and Marvel Super Heroes as well as the Marvel produced diceless RPG).

Eight years is truely a long time, in life and in game. I would have hoped that they continue to wait the "traditional 12 years" before putting out a revision, but it's obvious that the holes were big enough. Heck, my group stopped playing d20 for about a year and still go back to other systems when we hit the holes.

So why did you buy 3.5 stuff?

Nah, that'd be %e.

So when is this "Circle of Hell" edition going to be released? ;-)

Dont panic. Oriental Adventures(Kara Tur), Spelljammer(Realmspace), Al Qadim, Ravenloft(some of it), and Maztica are covered. After all they only backdrop to the FORGOTTEN REALM$$$$ cash Moo!

Scarab Sages

Meh.

Whatever. Much ado about nothing.

I do not know. I do know all the characters will be demons...er...devils...er...maybe evil outsiders. They have not worked out the cosmology just yet.

I believe we can't have enough "4th edition is crap" threads, in my opinion. I did buy the 3.0 core books and some of the supplements, until I realize I could save time by just flushing my money down the toilet. There are a few exceptions, but mostly the product from WOTC sucks. I do like the products from Paizo, and I am sure that they will use the OGL from 4.0 and make more quality items.

However, its sort of like shinning up a piece of crap...

I really appreciate the gang here on the Paizo messageboards. I cannot even read the boards on the WotC site because of all the complaining (much like the beginning of this thread) of course over there a bunch of people pile on and add to the complaining.

Thank you for not being a board of whinners. There is constructive conversation here that is relevent to our game and obviously with the goal of making it better and moving it forward. I am proud to be part of this community.

For and residual whinners, *****ers, and complainers. Go to the WotC site and join your brethren and tell WotC that you will never buy there products again because they such, blah, blah, blah...

And when you are done come back here and let's make our game better and more fun.

Do you honestly believe that calling me names is going to convince me of your position? Come again.

I like 4th "Circle of Hell." It'll work for the next 5 editions after this one. Then, we can switch over to layers of the Abyss. Unless they get rid of the Abyss. Then they'll think we're old and crusty, and don't know what the hell we're saying.

I am actually looking forward to the D&D 4.5 edition...

The D&D Apocolypse has a deadline. We now that it is coming May 2008. It will not come like "a thief in the night". It has a firm date, sort of like the Mayan Calendar. We should not fight the coming Apocolypse. Like Mel Gibson's "Apocolypto", we should all embrace it. All D&D players across the world should have one, last D&D game the night before D&D 4th Edition is released. Then, it will be over...this is the end...my friend...
