Could we get an Art Gallery?

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

I think it would be great to have access to the images from Pathfinder (and the whole GameMastery line) available in a gallery, like Wizards does.

I may be an anomaly, but I usually check out the art galleries or art previews before buying a book. I know the content is the most important aspect, but I have bought more than one book I had no use for simply because the art is fantastic, and likewise skipped some books I was interested in until I saw the art was terrible. Does this make me shallow? Probably, but I think I am not alone.

After looking through Burnt Offerings and Seven Swords of Sin last night my first thought was that I'd buy these just for the art. I guess so far, that is all I have really checked out. So maybe there are others who would get into Pathfinder if they got a glimpse of just how great the illustrations are (they also serve a very practical purpose in conveying the feel and type of world present in Pathfinder).

Also I like to print out pieces of art as play aids, usually an image of an NPC on a card to hold up when I am speaking in-character (I don't do voices, well, not well at least).

So what do ya say? I know you guys don't have much to do over there, with so little product coming out these days ;)

I had the same idea earlier this day (must have something to do with the avatar, I guess ;-)). I was browsing through the blog for the pictures of the iconics and the maps, and thought "It would be much more convienient if there was an art gallery.

Here, here. Great idea- the art is also a big seller for me on books and the like as well. The recent Dungeon and Dragon art would rule as well.

how about a cross reference of where pictures of various things are: like the index of a book. (so if you needed a map of Sandpoint, look up Sandpoint, map - see that it's in Pathfider #1 page x (at work so don't know page numbers) which is in pdf (pdf title). this way if there is art for goblins in 8 locations the DM can choose the best art for the situation, and copy the art from the PDF and paste into word instantly? this could incorperate the whole pathfinder chronicles setting, and not just pathfinder... what do you guys think?

I also agree with an art gallery. I like to print out images of NPCs, monsters, and locales and show them to PCs rather than just showing them the book.

If I wrote this up and emailed it and updates to it to someone with a site would that be ok with paizo people? anyone with a site interested?

I agree I think an art gallery would be a great addition to the website. I find the art gallery really helps sell me on a product. The main reason I haven't brought many of the new WotC adventures is because of the lackluster art work either there is not enough of it or it is black and white. I think it would help sell the books to those who maybe are still undecided.

I'd like to see one too.

I've been begging for something like this for a while now. I've started 2 threads asking for pics of Balabar Smenk and many other great NPC pics from Dungeon magazine for easy online access. They always seem to sputter and die after a few replies of interest.

I'd also like to see a web gallery of the tiles in each Map Pack. Since they're not identifiable by set once they're out of the packaging, even low-res thumbnail versions would help me keep my sets together once they (invariably) get mixed together.

I want to get the Dungeon art/map gallery caught up first (I'm aiming for the end of the month) before I start working on something similar for Pathfinder, but there certainly is a plan in my mind at least to get an art/map (hopefully with untagged maps) gallery up for Pathfinder soon.

Are you talking about a Dungeon art gallery that is already up and I just can't find it or one that is yet to go up?

Glad to hear about plans for art galleries, I love 'em.

Awesome! Thanks for the good words James.

We've been putting all of the art and maps for Dungeon online since issue #114, I believe. We're about 6 issues behind right now, alas, due to the fact that Gen Con and Pathfinder added a LOT of work to our schedules.

D'oh! You are talking about the online pdf supplements eh? OK I'm not missing them then.

So I'm Guessing that since there is going to be an official art gallery, my index isn't something that would be frowned upon. I started a speadsheet with it last night, looks like I may throw it on a website and see what people think tonight or tomorrow.

Yep, I completely agree with this -- I'd love to be able to print up some of the art for the PCs. As it is right now, I'll probably just photocopy a couple of the pages for them, but that's always a clunky way of doing it, since I don't wanna flatten the book, and I'll have to hide text, etc..

So yeah.. Art Gallery please! :D

Hate to dredge up such an old post, but whatever came of this idea?

Edit: Nevermind, just found this newer post about the same thing that pretty much answers my question.

While you wait, The wiki gallery has everything that's open content, plus some fanart

Dark Archive

A bit off topic but I feel I should mention that the wizard galleries have now been moved behind the DDI subscription. (Or so I've been led to believe.)

Yep. The 4E galleries, except for the Player's Handbook, Monster Manual, and Dungeon Master's Guide, are all now subscriber only.

I understand the 3E galleries are still somewhere on the site, but I haven't found them yet, though I assume they're not subscriber locked.

Yes, that's it. Thanks for the URL. The new site is painfully slow for me, so I hadn't taken the time to look for that so far.

You can find MOST art on www.deviantart.com just search for pathfinder or paizo and start digging up. Some of the artist are Drew Pocza, Ben Wooten, NJoo and even Eva Widerman.

Ahh...the link seems to lead straight back to this thread.

Odd... here, this may be easier :D

They ALL have Pathfinder art, just go into their galleries and flip them to dig up the Paizo Illos

Drew Pocza
Ben Wootten
nJoo
Eva Widerman
Lang Jun Kang
Ralph Horsley
Undo Crew
Svetlin Velinov
Michael Jaecks
Kevin KY Yan

Some of them post very little of the Paizo work (like Eva) but you can find links to their websites and stalk in there ;)

I may have missed so of the artists that ar on dA, if somebody knows of ore, please share!
