I miss Farscape. It was a great show. I loved the characters, the ships, the earth tie ins, DRD's EVERYTHING. I enjoyed the Peacekeeper Wars, but I wasn't ready for the show to end. Does anyone know why it was canceled?

Same reason anything else gets cancelled. Too expensive in relation to the advertising dollars it was able to generate.

But damn do I miss that show too. One of the best sci fi shows ever. Not afraid to take crazy chances with their stories. Or permanently alter things. Plus MUPPETS!

I miss it too. I guess I'll be saving up to buy all 4 seasons on dvd. I don't think that show ever "jumped the shark" and that's saying something now days.

Liberty's Edge

I like Claudia Black, so I watch that Star Gate show.
She's snarky in that one!!!

great show far to short lived

I miss Farscape. And Firefly. And I shall miss SG-1 when it is over.

*sob*

yeah, I have all the farscape episodes on dvd, and I just rewatched all the firefly episodes; I also miss Babylon 5 and the spin off that it generated, wanted to learn more about the technomages.

Ahh, but Babylon 5 lives again:

I also miss Farscape, and Babylon 5, and Firefly (which was never given a chance). I also miss a show called John Doe, anyone remember that one? The guy who knows EVERYTHING about ANYTHING except his own identity. Really had me hooked, even if it hooked no one else.

I am alos pleased to hear CBS changed their mind and renewed Jericho.

Anything else anyone misses?

DogBone

I miss Futurama. Thankfully it's coming back.

Scarab Sages

I miss Firefly, Futurama, and Trippin' the Rift. In that order.

Thoth-Amon

I have cast true resurrection on this thread, because with all the talk about BSG being 10 years old, I distracted myself by reminiscing about the best sci-fi show to grace the idiot box: Farscape.

Yes, Farscape was/is better than anything else that came before or after. Truth. Cross my heart, smack me dead, put a lobster on my head.

I've actually been watching this show for the first time. I'm enjoying it very much.

Cool. Are you watching it in syndication (what was that new channel...Pivot?) or a DVD/Blu-Ray set?

Definitely my favorite Sci-Fi show ever. I keep the boxed set of DVDs as a precious treasure.

It's on netflix as well.

Definitely my favorite Sci-fi show. And one of the few that managed to be awesome to the end, and not go out with a whimper (or by completing pissing me off)

Sovereign Court

Loved Farscape. They actually tried to make aliens.... seem alien, ya know? The writing did seem to be all over the place though. I think that doomed this show. Nobody know who was coming or going.

Actually, according to SyFy, they thought the show was too expensive and too cerebral. Their then-CEO made a statement to the effect of tuning the channel to the lowest common denominator (i.e. we're putting on more programming for less intelligent people that watch more TV). Thus Farscape was canceled and replaced in its time slot with "Tremors: The Series." and not too long after that they started airing professional wrestling.

Sovereign Court

I can see Farscape being a bit expensive. I had totally forgotten about tremors the series lol. I miss Alphas that's probably the best SyFy show in awhile. I really appreciate all the talent behind Defiance but it kind of fell flat for me. It hasn't been all bad but will we ever get good programing out of SyFy again?

Quite the coincidence! I just watched the first episode the other day. Looks interesting.

I loved it. Rygel was the best.

I've been watching it on DVD, although I did note that it has popped (back) up on Netflix.

I think the biggest problem with the show is(was) the uneven writing. The characters are shaping up with some real depth, but I've noticed a lot of "Either THIS or THAT! And no other way!"-type of episode plots. They certainly have not touched the depth of storyline that, say, Babylon 5 had.

On the other hand, I'm amazed at the believable and emotional performances that they are(were) able to get out of the puppet-aliens, especially Pilot. The CG effects are, of course, showing their age, but the mechanical effects still hold their power 10-15 years later.

Good stuff. :)

I loved this show, buy even in Australia it never stood a chance.

After a month in the prime time slot the moved it to 11pm and I had to stop watching :'(

The show never impressed me... well let me correct myself; the show's storyline never impressed me. The one thing this show had in spades, the one thing that had me watching from beginning to end were those truly memorable characters. It was a show that was definitely worth watching.

It was the characters that grabbed me. I was emotionally invested in nearly each and every character on the show. I never got that with Babylon 5, which is probably why I never watched that show regularly; I just didn't care who lived or died. Whereas, when Farscape originally aired, I hardly ever missed a night. Those few I did miss, the recording was still sacrosanct. When it went on, the phone went off and everything else took a backseat until the show was over.

I loved this show...I am going have to get my DVDs back from a friend soon.

It was a great show, well at least it got like around 5 seasons.

4 seasons and a movie/mini-series (depending on which format you see it in).

Yeah, Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars was a testament to fan loyalty. The "save Farscape" movement had a lot to do with getting it done. I think the best thing about it was that it helped tie up a lot of loose ends without making a return of the show an impossibility. (Well, that and saving the fans from ending on the most horrible cliffhanger ever.)

Loved the series. Miss it.

Absolutely, the show was about the characters. My wife, who is absolutely NOT a science fiction fan, thought the show was absolutely ridiculous--until she sat down and watched it with me one night, witnessed the birth of Talyn, and realized that even the spacecraft showed emotions. Then she was hooked, and watched solely for the characterization.

The scene that *still* gives me chills.

"Talyn, Starburst."

John: "D'Argo, tell him who his daddy is."

D'Argo: "I'm your daddy!"

John: "That's right!"

rise, thread, rise

Has anyone read any of the Farscape comics? If so, are they worth reading?

I didn't even know there were comics.

Oh, and there's been talk of a potential movie coming up. Based around John, Aeryn, and their now 19 year old son.

Yes to the former, to the latter... I'd personally say no, but then I'm not generally a fan of comics anyway, and a lot of my gripes are largely inherent to the medium.

Is it the art style or the writing? Or is it just poor character decisions?

Mostly it's the art, pacing, and not quite capturing the voice.

Spoiler:
But it also starts off with them renaming the baby to avoid confusion, Jothee just suddenly being around as a D'Argo replacement, dropping Rygel off on his home planet, and trying to awkwardly shoehorn Scorpius back into a more straightforward villain role.

It might pick up some later, but it does not make a good first impression.

That's a shame; I was looking forward to seeing Scorpius go full-blown mad scientist antihero (while still working alongside the group).
