OK, I read the first page of this thread, looked at the jobs offerred and had a nice fantasy about getting out of the Army and starting a new life in the Seattle area. I even checked out Apartments and stuff.
Having read the last page of this thread I have a completely different fantasy going now...

It might be a tad disturbing though. ;P

There was a thread about the language filter a while back that where someone joked about their "friend Dick Cockpecker". At the time I was tempted to create the alias Dick Cockpecker just so I could reply, but then I thought, you know, having the alias Dick Cockpecker is the kind of thing that could come back and bite you in the ass (so to speak). Now I'm reading this thread and thinking, this would have been the perfect time to bring out Dick Cockpecker (so to speak). Ah, well, hindsight is 20/20.

This thread is way beyond hi-jacked, so...
Mulban, where in Baghdad? Anywhere near BIAP? If you don't feel like saying "out loud," email me: ephealy(at)ephealy[dot]com.
I'm in the Green Zone, I work at the hospital. I'll e-mail you the next time I'm at BIAP, since I'm usually there for at least 8-12 hours at a stretch. I love traveling in this country, where else do you wait 10 hours for a 20 minute flight?

More like... wait 10 hours, get told to come back tomorrow, come back, wait 12 hours, sit on tarmac for 2 hours, get off plane, come back again the next day, then fly out.
Anyway, drop me an email in advance. I may or may not be around...

I remember once I and some other unit lotto winners (ha,ha) took a flight from Quyarrah to Mosul to BIAP...the ground convoy got there first, were setteled in their tents, eating at Pizza Hut, sleeping, generally enjoying themselves (relatively speaking, of course) and by the time the rest of us got there it was time to move again.

Hmm, a $500k house. That'd be the life in South Dakota! A split level house with 3 bedrooms and an unfinished basement is less than $200,000. I've seen the $0.5 million houses. I don't think I could fill them, even with my D&D collection.
Of course, South Dakotans get paid less than Californians.
Not by a whole lot, Gas adn Housing out here are over the top. Gas is at $3.50 and a 2 bedroom apartmnet is San Diego is going for $1,500 a month. House payments can easily double that.
Seattle is cheaper (not by a lot). Why were were thinking of moving back (BTW Paizo guys I sent you my Resume)

South Dakota has Gas at $3.19 (last fill), 2 bed apt is $700 (but that's the more "expensive" one, roughly $500-$700), not sure on the house but I'd say $1000. The place where I work starts at $10/hr for a phone rep.

Wow. You skip the boards for a few days and look at what you miss out on.
Is the tech job still up for grabs? Just finishing up my CS degree after getting laid off last year so I'm back in job search mode. Mind you, it would mean a move across the country, but isn't adventure what this game and place are all about?

If you don't mind a 30+ minutes commute, there are some places south of Seattle that are cheaper. Some people aren't up for long drives every day, though. Coming from working between Phili and NYC, I'm used to them - but they're not for everyone.
Gig Harbor is nice and quite, if a little pricey and a bit of a drive; but stay away from Tacoma, stay away...

Ed Healy Contributor |

What's wrong with Tacoma? My favorite GM lives there. It's a wonderful place to live. Ok, maybe not, but...
I happen to live a little further south, in DuPont. It takes about 45 minutes to get to the SeaTac terminal, door to door. To Paizo's offices? That'd be a hike.
But then, when I lived in NJ I commuted 1-2 hours each way, every day, for seven years.
I'm not sure what's out to the east. Does anyone even live in central Washington?

There's Central Washington University out there... Other than that, central WA is pretty quiet. Lots of agriculture, and apparently, wineries.
My vote for cheaper living is the Renton/Kent/Auburn area. Expensive parts of each region, but those 3 cities are relatively near the office and have fairly cheap rental houses. *knows because she was recently on the hunt for some reasonable housing*

I love it here - tiny town where they shot "Twin Peaks" all those years ago - and after living here for a year and a half, I can totallys ee whyt hey did. It's an eclectic place to say the least, and I loves it :-)
Sheriff Harry S Truman. Shouldn't be too hard to remember that. :)

We could, of course, use a zombie around the office to do our bidding.
Jason
As it happens, I have several years experience as a professional zombie. I have been featured in such memorable legions of the dead as the Black Armies of Tull-Akmor and served as an officer in the 343rd Brain Feasters Brigade. I have also worked for Starbucks for several years, giving me exposure to powerful animating agents, such as quintuple venti lattes and chocolate-covered espresso beans. I can dress my remaining limbs in accordance to professional attire/diabolic uniform, and possess enough fingers to suture up any open gashes, so as not to leave unsightly maggots or infection in the workplace. My bachelor's from UNA (the University of Necromantic Arts) has spellstiched me with the power to take the initiative and use animate dead to recruit more staff for the company. Furthermore, as an advocate of "guerrilla marketing", I can shuffle from place to place, inciting terror and carnage, as well as distributing 20% off coupons to places I solicit. I encourage you to consider my resume (forgive the blood stains--dried human skin is so fickle as a writing surface), and contact me by placing a goat's head in a pentagram, chanting my name backwards three times.

Been there. Love those wineries. Chateau Ste Michelle is there. They put out a lot of grappa. Youve probably had some of their stuff in yer fridge. Theres another winery right across the hiway too...with watch-peacocks. Those things are LOUD after a day of 'tasting'.
Columbia Valley has a buncha other cool little mom n pop wineries. Had my first sweet mead up there, served by this lil half troll/half halfling (imagine that mating, ewwwwww). Anyway, great stuff. Bought half a case of it. But my favorite was an old barn tasting room that was run by a hippie commune type group. Gave up some amazing smoked salmon, homemade crisp bread, and green olives for FREE. Just to go along with the different wines they had. They had some Simon and Garfunkel mix cd along with Steve Miller Band playing in the background. Cant remember the name of the place.

But then someone mentioned North Bend and I know she's a Twin Peaks fanatic (I just picked up season 2 for her at Best Buy last week).
Yep, that's me home burg. I've got the DVDs too, all except that blasted pilot, which you cna only get from Japan on laserdisc...fortunately, I have a laserdisc player and collection...

Hm, that software developer position sure looks appealing...
Too bad it's half a world away.
Indeed. Though in my case, it's not so much distance, as commitments. I start graduate school in the fall. As much as I would love to just take the software job and move, I'm stuck in Florida for another 5 years or so.
P.S. If Paizo has some ins with the University of Washington that I don't know about, this would be the time to tell me.
