Need help naming a new puppy!

Puppy Name?

My fiancé and I are getting a chocolate lab in a month or so (YES!) My parent’s labs had puppies, and now we are just waiting for him to be weaned. Well we are both unbelievably happy, but we can’t decide on a name any suggestions? He’s a he. He’s a chocolate lab. He should be smart and fairly big based on the parents. We can’t think or rather agree on anything that fits. Any ideas?

Fizz

Oh my fiancé wanted to name him faust…sigh…

Some names:

  • Conan
  • Fizzban
  • Maximus
  • Alea (latin for dice)
  • Jakta
  • William
  • Tensor
  • Dungeon Master
  • Tiamat
  • Duke
  • Luke
  • Odin
  • Thor

... just off the top of my head >:-)

I've named cats Tiamat and Shantu (the displacer beast from the Moonshae Isles trilogy) - they were twins, it worked out well. :)

As for dogs...

Gideon
Helm
Torm
Morgan
Ironwolf

...

I'll think of more eventually.

Let me just add that...I hate you! Just kidding, but I am extremely jealous. I would love to get a lab, but the future Mrs. Zombie is allergic.

I will say, watch out for those chocolates if you aren't experienced with them. They tend to be the hyperactive bunch. As for names...

Bob
Joe
Ben
Rufus
Wonder Mutt
Belvedere
Tutankahmen
Alvin
Simon
Theodore
Mickey
Goofy
Donald
etc, etc...

Dungeon Master

Well, it's better than "Uni," I guess....

Congratulations.
We have had dogs named Spike (German Shepherd), Nebula (Great Pyranees), Havoc (Golden Retriever), and Mayhem (Yellow Lab). Oh, and Labs are very bouncy if ours is any indication. The names of ours are certainly very apt.

For your situation how about:
Bob
Deuce
Cat
Bruno
Thumper
Thanik
Plato

I'm sure I'll think of others...

Good luck with the new puppy!

Meepo, foul spawn of the abyss.
Thaco (because it will be real difficult to understand)
Pick any villian from a Dungeon mag AP like
Vanthus (sp?)

But I love the name Meepo for a puppy (from The Sunless Citadel, npc kobold dragon trainer).

Meepo is a good one.

I like Moog. It's from Wilo-the-wisp, an old cartoon over here in the U.K.

The Exchange

Oh, yeah, one more...

Sleipnir, Odin's faithful 8 legged horse, whom his son, Hermod, rode into the underworld to speak to Hel seeking his brother's release (Balder) but only received his armband as a momento to give to Odin.
Mythos lesson of the day provided by Fake Healer, pretending to heal since time began....

Dump her. Tell her to take her big fat NO and....ummm, I mean......

Is she a gamer?
If not you probably won't get away with any of these names. Just call the lil'nipper something boring like Fido and move on.

The last time this came up

Well, I did have a friend in college name his dog, "Tia-mutt."

As for my suggestion, "Fenris," the wolf from Norse mythology.

As I said before, so i say again:

Or....SMOOC!!!

How 'bout: Scoom?

Nah...

I seems as if the most perfect conglomeration of those five letters would be:

COSMO!

Spoiler:
That's right... most perfect.

Liberty's Edge

Smooc is more perfecter.

Duke

Guinness (after the stout)

Athos ( after the drunk musketeer..)

During the rectification of the Vuldronaii the Traveler came as a large, moving Torb. Then, during the third reconciliation of the last of the Meketrex supplicants they chose a new form for him—that of a giant Sloar. Many Shubs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Sloar that day, I can tell you.

I still think you should name the puppy Cosmo.

Naah, that was the "Scourge of Carpathia. The Sorrow of Moldavia" Lord Vigo.

How about SENTINEL.

Silver Crusade

Definitely Celestial Healer.

Or how about Pale Night?
Blibdoolpoolp?
St. Cuthbert?
Kurtulmak?

Meh. I'm terrible at naming things. I told my sister to name her son "Rasputin Methusuleh" but she didn't listen to me.

I don’t have any particular suggestion for a name. I’ve always found that a bit too personal a thing to butt in on. But, over the years I’ve had some experience in naming dogs (both genders and various breeds) and I’ve also talked to people who supposedly know about such things (dog trainers, etc.).

They suggest:
1) The name be short – one or two syllables.
2) The name not sound like a command – a name like Bo sounds too much like “No!” and the animal can get confused. This can interfere with training and discipline.
3) The name should not be anything you would personally have trouble calling out loudly in public – so something “Sweet Cheeks” or “Mr. Wiggle Butt” would be right out.
3) The better names involve some personality quirk of the animal – “Hopper” was one we almost named a recent acquisition of our own, because he loved to launch himself into the air and land on whatever he was chasing (ball, stuffed toy, etc.). But be careful with this, because some puppy activity gets outgrown and then you have a name that is no longer timely.

My wife has some physical limitations and cannot ride motorcycles, though she would dearly love to. We had one dog we named “Harley” because he ate so much as a puppy he would go into torpor. We had to put him on a diet before he was ten weeks old. My wife commented that he was such a hog. I said, “There’s your name.” She replied, “I’m not gonna name my dog, Hog!” I asked, “What else is called a “Hog?” She thought and then smiled. She got her Harley, sort of…

Don’t know if that helps, but I tried.

Congratulations on the new addition to your family!

Here's a couple of web sites...

1st site
2nd site
3rd site

I have been known to use these same sites for character names.

Holy thread necromancy.

Had I been aware of this thread I would have suggested Dog-Sothoth.

May I suggest...PUGWAMPI?!?

I don't know. Naming a dog after one of us seems cruel; now could any pupwampi hope up to live up to our greatness?

{checks thread date} Hopefully original pupper has been named by now. I imagine it'd suck getting your official name after you're old enough in doggo years to be retired.

Yeah, I thought that, too. A. Nonymous Pupper seems a tad wrong for a dog that's 12 years old.

Twist: Doggo named himself Murtaugh, decided he's too old for this sh!t.
