Renaming the Crimson Fleet

Savage Tide Adventure Path

So, one of my players for our upcoming Savage Tide campaign decided to name his female character: Crimson. Not only that, but after reading the latest Demonomicon, he's gotten the idea of making her a Thrall of Malcanthet - to which I secretly snicker, how perfect is that??

Anyway, it's a cool enough name, normally I'd be all for it. Yet in this case, I find its similarity to the name of the Crimson Fleet a bit undesirable - it would likely lead to some joking around at certain key moments in the campaign, when I wouldn't want the tension broken up by jokes regarding a character's name. It's certainly not a BIG deal, but I kinda don't want it.

So, since I'd never want to actually VETO a character's name - can anyone, off the top of their head, think of a decent alternative name for the Crimson Fleet that might work out for me?

The Scarlet Fleet?

That was my first thought, but then wouldn't everyone assume they were part of the Scarlet Brotherhood?

I just changed it to the mundane Black Fleet.

Playing in Eberron and already a pirate fleet that follows the blood of Vol, known as the Blood Sails, or the players like to call them the Crimson Sails, so name had to be changed!

The Exchange

You could use the Forgotten Realms conversion name, the "Rundeen", even if you don't play there. They're a relatively nefarious merchant's guild and they own a substantial fleet with which they impose their rule on the sea.

Scarlet Brotherhood- the secret organization that everybody knows about. ;)

illuminati, we all know they exist.. but why and which ones are its members today..
Personally i think we just need to look at every -48 to see their handywork.
1748 weishaubt born
1848 need i mention?
1948 last parts of europe swept away and destroyed, subjects to the new supowerpowers
2048 .. we will se, suspect usa will be destroyed by then too, last pieces of any national or other cultural belonging gone aswell... and this benevolent order .."humanitys salvation" offers guidance..

Actually, in my FR campaign, I'm using the Rundeen to represent the Scarlet Brotherhood, and the Kraken Society to represent the Crimson Fleet.

Thanks to everyone for their help and suggestions!

Of all of them, I think I like the "Kraken Society" name best, possibly creating a secret history behind it, in that the uppermost members of the group are worshippers of Dagon - something that could eventually come into play once the campaign progresses to the Abyss.

And I'll have you know, JollyDoc, that your Shackled City story hour was the inspiration for me running the Adventure Paths in the first place! Thanks and keep up the great work.

Thanks MtM!! I'm honored, and glad we could be of help! There is info on the Kraken Society in FRCS, and I believe in Champions of Ruin. I think they generally operate in the Waterdeep area, but I'm having them expand their operations a bit south. Nicer climate ;o)

The Red Herrings? ;-)

Personally I like 'Boats o' Tools'.

Seriously though. What about the Fleet of Shadows? Because of their affiliation with You-Know-Who and those shiny things. (Trying to aviod spoilers) Or perhaps the Cardinal Fleet?

What exactly is the Kraken Society?

From Lords of Darkness: "The Kraken Society is a group of information brokers who use their knowledge to influence events in coastal countries along the Trackless Sea. Its agents, known as the Krakenar, are not above using kidnapping, murder and torture to get their way. Their monstrous leader's goal is the control of a great undersea and shore kingdom ranging for thousands of miles. Led by a very old kraken wizard called Slarkrethel, the society has ties to the church of Umberlee and controls armies of undersea monsters, which it uses to conquer hostile aquatic settlements and raid shore-based ones."

The Red Jacks?

The Red Tears?

The Sons of the Chain?

The Eyes of Sorrow?

Thanks for the info Jolly. I have a PC who wants to be an information "broker" in Sasserine. I wonder if I could have him work for these folks but not realize it until later. I'll have to think about this option.

Are there any neutrally aligned groups in the Realms that have the same goals? Maybe an affilaition he could join perhaps. I'll have to consider this option as well.
