"La Marée Sauvage"

Savage Tide Adventure Path

1 to 50 of 75 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | next > last >>

I was wondering if someone here was running Savage Tide in french. I am, and some translation sharing would be very helpful.

My players have just began TINH, and because they're all french-speaking, I have to translate all the material they have to see (like the letters or the extracts of Rowyn's journal).

So if someone has already done that and is okay to share, we can share the future work.

Merci d'avance!

silenttimo(at)yahoo(dot)fr

Moi aussi je fais jouer dans Greyhawk ! ^^;

silenttimo(at)yahoo(dot)fr

Sorry, I did not get your idea.

What do you mean exactly ?

Oh, and just curious : where is she from ?

Bonne question...

Sorry; I was just being silly. I just meant that she misses speaking French so much, it might make gaming more enjoyable to her.

How can we prove that we have the correct issue to share the translation? A nice photo with the issue? Can someone at Paizo tell us what is necessary to share a translation made by a french subscriber?

Don't apologize, your french is much better than my english ;) .

I don't speak a lick of French, but I would just like to say that seeing a thread like this in our community is AWESOME! Gamers are such diverse and resourceful people. Game on!

Mais non, pas du tout, mon ami! Ton anglais est presque parfait!

Thanks Fatespinner !

By reading threads like "Dungeon # in Europe", it's nice to see there are gamers in Sweden, Finland, UK, Czech republic, Hungary, Germany, Spain, Italy and many more...

Indeed, even if RPG were much more popular in France in the mid 80's to mid 90's, there is still a good RPG community here, and as far as I am concerned, I think that Dungeon magazine is one of the very best D&D products that can be found !

Thanks to James, Erik and the usual contributors (Steve, Richard, Wolfgang...), and to the "very high quality" gaming community on these boards !

It's great to see so many francophones enjoying the magazine. I'd have written that in French, but I'm afraid my four years of high school classes are fading into distant memory.

I am wearing a Serge Gainsbourg shirt right now, though, so I hope that counts for something! :)

Enfin, comme tu n'as rien reçu, écris-moi à guillaume_godbout_at_globetrotter_point_net. Je t'enverrais le courriel en réponse.

Hi Erik, yeah we are a few francophones here. It's a shame that we do not have a French version of Dungeon. I know that back in 2nd edition era, Dragon was published in French for a while by TSR-France. Now a days, most French RPG magazines have gone the way of the Dodo. The market isn't large enough, I guess. Their loss, your gain. On the other hand, it ensures that I read and play the excellent adventures of your magazine. ;)

BTW, if you are wearing that Gainsbourg shirt, it counts. If you are wearing it on June 24th (Quebec's National Holiday) or on July 14th (Bastille Day, France's National Holiday) it counts double!

À plus tard,

C'est bon j'ai envoyé le mail, on verra ce que ça donne...

Erik Mona wrote:

Definitely ;)

It's kinda hard to find good rpg magazines in french. The only ones are dead, or almost are. I don't know for french people, but here in Belgium, finding Dragon or Dungeon is also very difficult. And I know what I'm talking about, because I work in a rpg store, and we've never received some Dungeon issues (though they're on their way). And only one third of the official D&D products is translated. Times are hard for francophones D&D players ! Well it's not so bad, I can work my english a little that way ;)

It counts :) I'm a fan of "Le grand Serge" too. One of our greatest poets of the last century. I didn't know he was famous outside French borders but I'm glad to hear this.

Bran wrote:

He's not, really. It's just that I have extremely ecclectic music tastes. Almost all of the Gainsbourg CDs I have (and I have almost all of them) are imports. Right now the only generally available Serge CDs in America are the two "Love and the Beat" compilations and the two reggae albums. Plus a GREAT English-language cover compilation called "Monsieur Gainsbourg Revisited" that features people like Jane Birkin, Cat Power, Franz Ferdinand, Michael Stipe, etc. There's a disc with all of the same songs in the same order but in the original French.

"Histoire de Melody Nelson" is perhaps my favorite work of art period. It's a shame more Americans haven't heard it.

--Erik

Liberty's Edge

About Gainsbourg,

do you know that Mick Harvey (from Nick cave & the bad seeds) translated lots of his songs, and did 2 CDs singing them ?

I have the 1st one, and the result is correct.

Erik Mona wrote:

I second that. I find the bass mesmerizing especially on the "Rolls Royce" track. And this particular text is one of the greatest French-language poems of the XXth century.

En anglais, surnomma Spirit of Ecstasy.

Yep, there are some Hungarians too lurking on the messageboards :)

Salut à tous les français fans des Adventures Path and hi to Erik Mona for your great magazine.

Et j'ai terminé la traduction complète de There Is No Honor.

C'est assez difficile à traduire en français, mais la description de l'effet de la Shadow Pearl dit :" this is a wave of rippling green energy that washes over the surrounding region, transforming creatures within to savage creatures".

Responding to M. Balandier's post (sorry, I can't speak French well anymore)--

If you use "demoniaque" or "chaotique" aren't you giving out spoilers? I'm not sure of French D&D conventions, but you might not want to give away that demons or the forces of chaos are the primary villains of the campaign at the beginning. Why not "orageux" or "furieux," which are more vague, but carry a connotation of ferocity.

I think the "tide" in Savage Tide is supposed to carry connotations of an irresistable surge or rush of water. If we can speak of a "maree humaine" in situations where a huge crowd of people is surging in some direction, irresistably carrying along or trampling those in its path, can we not translate the Savage Tide as a "maree"?

Pardon!

Your french is perfect ! ;) Better than my english !

Hey ! I still read the messages here, but I don't post anymore (don't have time...)

One of my players just had a baby (with another player) so we didn't play for months now (we stopped during the first part, and after a few sidequests of my own). We're about to play again in a few days, but I didn't worked further for the translations. I'm still ok to share, but I don't have much myself. Moreover, we're not going to play often, since I'm going to have a baby too (next March). In conclusion : I'm still ok to take what you have to share ;) and I can give you a few things. My email hasn't change, it's still elgranflo_at_yahoo.fr .

-----

Salut !

Every once in a while I can think of how to say things, but usually when I try to speak French, Chinese comes out. My foreign-language neurons have been overwritten!

Enjoy your gaming! (How do you say that, idiomatically? Bon jeu?)

Peruhain of Brithondy wrote:

C'est ça.

Guess all your neurons have not been overwritten. It's the same with my German when I'm very drunk ;o) You're British Peruhain aren't you ?

And what about "Raz de Marée" insteed of "Marée sauvage" ?
No... not tsunami... :) But raz de marée is like that, a big wave that devasting and transform all things on is way.

I like "Raz-de-marée". It's precise and it talks to me. *shhhboiiing* title stolen !!!
