If being an "authentic" artist is doing the stuff you want to do, McCartney deserves a lot more credit than he gets*. He released a waltz as a single, for one thing. And it got to #1 in the charts.

*Obviously having the money and artistic credibility associated with being a Beatle helps with making that possible, but still.

I grew up in a distinctly anti-Paul household (my mom was a George fan and I liked John) and I was well into adulthood before I listed to a Wings record...and loved it.

I know he's made some shiznit, but, really, who hasn't? (A couple people, I know, but not many.)
