Feel Good Hit of the Summer.

I found a mix-tape I made around the time that song came out:

Broadcast
Deltron 30303

and, um, Madonna (although, a different re-mix than what I have on my tape which is less dance-y and more space-y)

I remember the hubbub about that Madonna vid...bout the same time as The Prodigy's "Smack My B@$~* Up" was out. Mtv could only play them after 11pm. Like kiddos would be asleep during that ungodly hour.

The Deltron3030 stuff I got into from the Gorillaz connection.

City Rising From The Ashes

Dunno about Broadcast. Something I got to check out. Thanks!

...and that Cult remix is good, but I love the original for that silent beat after the guitar solo before the outro that this remix hides. 2:52-2:54

I've always had a soft spot for 80:s fluffy disco Madonna. And Like A Prayer is a genuinely great pop song. Less keen on the rest of her oeuvre, though.

Speaking of great pop songs that don't get enough credit as such.

Don't worry I'll spare you the Spice Girls medley.

King Kobra - Never Say Die (Iron Eagle)
straight up old school glam
Lustre- Spirit
some ambient metal
Fireball Ministry - King
dirty LA metal

A whiles back, I discovered that the Boston Public Library had an awesome collection of cds and I began supplementing my record collection by taping a bunch of stuff I'd take out.

Years later, I no longer live in Boston and have a 20-year-old car with a cassette player. I begin taping my records to listen to on the way to work and back. After repeatedly using the same blank cassettes for five years, they start breaking. Blank cassettes aren't as easy to find as they used to be, so I start scavenging from the Boston Public Library tapes.

But now, of course, I have to go buy the albums that I am taping over. So I start looking for a copy of Dwight Yoakam's Dwight Sings Buck (linked over in the Good Covers thread). I go to the "alternative" store in Nashua and don't find it, but the clerk tells me they have a copy in their Manchester store. I do, however, find the 3 cd boxset for Hawkwind's Warriors on the Edge of Time. It's $35 bucks. I've never seen a copy, three-cd box set or otherwise, of this album, so I buy it. Huzzah!

A week later, I stop by the Manchester store, easily find Dwight and am strolling about when I see a used copy of Doremi Faso Latido, which, again, I don't think I've ever seen before. Huzzah!

I still see 3packs of cassettes in Dollar Stores from time to time. Im not sure who buys them...now I know! Its Doodlebugs.

I LOVE finding stuff like that in real record stores (or even at flea markets). Havent made any fantastic purchases lately. Last great one for me was over a yr ago. A vinyl copy of Steve Marriott's solo after he left Humble Pie.

Midnight Rollin

My best ever was an LP consisting of recordings of steam trains with mechanical defects, from all over the world. A) Who would bother taping something like that, and B) even if they did, who would buy it (unless it was 50p in a charity shop) ? It actually sounds like avant-garde percussion music (Varese or something) - not bad, but still...

OMG! Limey, you reminded me of this one I found a million yrs ago at a library sale for a quarter (I think).

Big Sounds of the Drags

Someone (god bless you Mick Trashman) has uploaded it onto the youtubes. Wow! Theres one track where the listener is supposed to listen for a mistimed shift while going down the strip. It amazed me that someone would tape these things without video...and who bought these records back in the day?

Made the comrades listen to Ya Ho Wa 13 last night. I think I may have shattered their minds. Huzzah!

Huzzah!

The only time I got complaints was when I lent a fellow traveller a CD of Cornelius Cardew's Maoist white reggae band, which, to be fair, is dreadful (the white reggae bits, anyway - when they stick to jazz, they're average to pretty good...)
