Cicadas in the trees outside my window. The quintessential summer sound.
[tangent] Their cast off exoskeletons make awesome alien monsters for your plastic army men to blow up. Yanno, back in the day before you could buy miniatures or alien Star Wars figures and stuff... Plus you could 'hang' them on people's shirts all sneaky like and they'd freak the heck out when they noticed them. :) [/tangent]

EDIT: 1) Peter Gabriel was a bit of a hottie in those days
2) The end of 'The Musical Box'... Good gracious...
Steve Hackett was a GUITAR GOD! He just sits in that chair, staring at the floor through his coke-bottle lenses... and rocks the house. No wonder that Eddie van Halen cites Hackett as his biggest influence.
P.S. Nursery Cryme is one of my all-time favorite albums.| Waterhammer |
Taking a break from the alphabetic list of song titles tonight. Listened to the Hot Hot Heat, then Imagine Dragons, now I'm listening to Gerry Rafferty. Outside in the heat, watching my lawn sprinklers work, hope the neighbors don't mind. They should all be inside, with the air conditioning on, anyway.

Ooh, Hungry Like the Wolf. The super-tall Sri Lankan model in that video is crazy beautiful. Her maybe being a were-leopard only adds to that. :)
Huh, I was listening to my girlfriend again this morning, and I knew she said "Hungry like the wolf" in Bamboo Banga but I figured it was just idiomatic.
Now I am more inclined to chalk it up as a direct Duran Duran allusion.
Also, I love it when she goes "woo! woo!" at 00:57, because that's a sound that my Tamil coworker always makes.

Love Chromeo!

Its Friday somewhere so heres some bonus funk. The Meters - Chicken Strut
and Waterhammer reminded me. Gerry Rafferty - Right down the Line
speaking of lines...Triumph - Lay it on the Line
a guy I knew in a local cover band just passed away a couple weeks ago. This was one of his spotlights during their set. Spirit - Natures Way R.I.P. Mark.
and just a bit of randomness to end this suite.
Peter Gabriel - Moribund the Burgermeister
and
Tom Petty - Moon Pie
and
Great White - Wasted Rock Ranger

Ooh, Triumph! And Queensryche! I like the cut of your jib, drunken nomad! (or, at least the cut of your playlist!)
I got to see Queensryche the last time they were in the Boston area, when they announced that they were going to do the whole Operation Mindcrime set for the last time. Awesome storyline / songs.

Don Juan de Doodlebug disapproves of getting the hawt video ladies pregnant before you even dance with them.
Gentlemen of Chromeo, that is not how it's supposed to be done.

White Zombie with Iggy Pop? That's intriguing.
I'm back to alphabetical song titles. Just finished up 'Last Train to London' by ELO. I love ELO, but that one is a bit too much on the disco side. Still a good song.
Now it's 'Laughing out Loud' by the Wallflowers. My neighbor told me, my way of listening to my iPod, was like listening to "demented radio". He's a funny guy.

She's about a mover, for dessert.
Spent a fairly kakky afternoon in a boiling hot office programming online surveys, made just about tolerable by:

Well, I did most of my Wednesday 7-hours-of-running-up-and-down-stairwell job to these guys and gals. Close enough?
I assume everybody here knows how this song started as a shout of anger against class and race oppression.
Anyway, someone should do a Chic post, how they were monumental stylists who ruled over, let's say, a decade of dance music and should be enthroned as gods of rock next to say, Dylan and the Stones.
Hmmm, I wonder if Dylan ever did a record with Rogers and Edwards? Probably not, but you never know...

Only just now saw this. And what's the "back in the day" business? *Gets out army men and cicada husks with magnifying glass to play with in the sun*.

Phoenix, a Romanian band who have (had?) at least two very good albums:
And Mugur De Fluier, which I found for a quid at a car boot sale and was super excited, since I thought I'd found some sort of ultra obscure rarity. Needless to say, I hadn't, but it's still great.
Just listened to the first link.
Woah!!!
