What's on your Item Cards?

Accessories

Kyle Baird and I had the privilege of trading in person on Saturday, and one thing we discussed was the best way to mark cards. We're both interested in finding stickers or labels that can be easily removed and/or reused.

How is everyone marking their cards? I've been using pencil and eraser for the most part, although I used pen on a few cards when I didn't have a pencil handy.

I did find a website that sells custom labels. They offer a full white sheet label with removable adhesive. They are quite expensive though, and I'll probably end up looking at Staples or OfficeMax first.

Even though the cards are relatively cheap, the randomness of them makes it hard for me to warrant writing on them. I fear Post-It notes won't stick well enough.

Two other options involve using a 9-pocket (or similar) plastic binder sheet (or whatever you want to call them). You can either:

a) Put a small sheet of paper/index card/whatever, in the back of the card for reference, or

b) Put a label or sticker on the outside of each pocket...

I'm planning on making 1 or 1-1/2" binders for my players when I run my Ptolus campaign this spring, and will include several sheets of card protectors for their item cards. Now if we could only get Jason to post the contents of the Adventure Gear set!

I got some cheap card sleeves to slide the cards into. Write on the card sleeve instead of the card. You'll need to experiment with what pen you can erase from the sleeve, but they are cheap enough that you can just discard the sleeves when done.

The cheap card sleeves are a good idea and easy enough to find. Will they fit into the 9 pocket sheets? I use the 9 pocket sheets to go with the players character sheets, so it would have to fit in there. In the meantime, I have been using pencil and eraser.

Years ago, I remember trying to do this without much luck. The problem is that they would fit in, but were a pain to pull out. Might be different today...

Scarab Sages

I use card sleeves and china markers. Works like a charm.

Where would one find card sleeves and china markers? A local game store, and office supply store, or a hobby shop?

Sleeves are most common at any gaming or sports cards store. They can also be purchased from Amazon and such.

China markers... Meijer/Wal-Mart probably carries those, and even if they don't Staples/OfficeMax might, and lastly, Michael's or JoAnn's.

I found what I was looking for though. Avery 6465. A full sheet label with removable adhesive. Print, cut to 1 1/4 x 1 5/16 each, and remove when the campaign's over (or you want to reuse or update an item). No ugly handwriting required.

I use the card sleeves and a fine point sharpie.

You should be able to write directly on to SuperBeast's 9-pocket sheets with either china markers or wet-erase, battlemat markers.

Also, 3M makes a low tack Scotch Magic tape that would lift off of the cards with no problem. It is a (semi-) clear tape with Post-It note adhesive. A couple of strips across the back over the note area should laminate it nicely.

That's what I was looking for at Office Max ... Avery removable labels. I'm going to try to find something smaller than full sheet though. I know they have a size that is 15 labels to a sheet where the labels would still fit on the cards.

Similar to the card sleeves, I laminated my cards. It's perminate and I don't know if they'll fit into a 9 card sleeve, but i find that perminate marker works well and will clean off easily with some white board cleaner. The do fit nicely into ultro-pro top boxs (sideways fits more and better).

Darn it, the 15 labels/sheet (2" x 2-5/8") only comes in the permanent variety (Avery 6572). I guess I'll look how much I can fit on 30 labels/sheet size (1" x 2-5/8", Avery 6460).

I agree with Kyle that I want to eliminate the need for handwriting. I'd like to be able to print out some item descriptions in advance and slap them on the cards at the appropriate time. I might get some of the little round removable stickers to put on items that have not been identified.

Sovereign Court

I just use colored Post-It notes and remove them when the item is used up (for scrolls, potions, etc.).
