With a low ululating howl, an aura of green and purple energy surrounds the creature before dissipating with a burst of light. As more shambling mounds appear and assault you, the Zomok advances.
1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

The plant-creatures strike out; following a muttered syllable from the Zomok, one attacks Ganorok.

Safe inside her Otherworldly Mansion, Kenjakana finally gets a chance to summon in peace; however, instead of a cloud giant, she opts to call a Monadic Deva Angel via Summon Good Monster VIII for their healing powers. Even if the others cut down the zomok before they exit the mansion, then the angel can at least chop down some of the shrubs and possible help out with whatever is behind that bend they were guarding.

Working together, Daniel and Ganorok descend upon the dragon, slicing at hamstrings and driving swords deep into its belly. Opening its maw and roaring its pain to resound around the cave, it suddenly stands still. With the sound of leaves in the wind, a heavy sigh of relief, the creature sinks to the ground, eyes closed as if in slumber. It collapses into a pile of leaves and dirt, along with a tiny bush of bright red and pink flowers. A smell, sweet and soft, emanantes forth, neutralizing and drowning out the fetid swamp smell from the rest of the cave.

The remaining shambling mounds are easily rounded up with a short flurry of blows, and Kenja's deva.

Ganorok reappears, smiling widely.
"That was fun. We should do it again, sometime. Kenjakana, thank you for your magic, it worked perfectly! I couldn't have done it without you."

Greater Invisibility, a Rogue's Best Friend.

Here's what happens between the summoning and the end of the battle.

Before Kenjakana opens the door to her pocket dimension fortress, she climbs onto the Angel's back for a piggyback ride, orders the Monadic Deva to cast Heal on her, and then Hastes herself and her new ally. Thanks to the celestial man's magic, the Sage Sorceress finds herself feeling much, much better.

As allowed by the spell, Kenjakana reopens the portal with her mind, and the duo barrel out back into the real world in time to see the zomok destroyed. Kenjkana decides to conserve her spells and lets the Hasted Monadic Deva smash the shrubs into mulch with his big mace. She begins to rethink how to improve her Contingency.

Once the battle is over, Kenjakana sends her Monadic Deva to scout the rest of the cave and call out if he finds anything.

Kenjakana blushes when Ganorok kisses her. Thanks to the Sorceress' Permanent Reduce Person spell, he actually doesn't have to reach up too far; rather than size, most of the height difference between them stems from Kenjakana's perpetual flight.

"You're certainly welcome. I'm pleased to know that something I did actually mattered."

Since the Monadic Deva probably has like 10-12 rounds left on him, I'll send him to look around the bend where we first ran into those shrubs.

Looking through the bodies, Ganorok finds no items.

Moving around the bend, the deva finds the blasted wreck of an old battle; scorch patterns on the walls, carved furrows in the dirt, signs of a roof turned to mud, then back to stone.

"That might have been the King," says Kenjakana as she uses her Boots of the Earth to patch any lingering damage. "Zomoks (what the plant-dragon is typically called) are weird. Their mood changes with the seasons, being playful and mischievous in spring, full of kingly majesty in summer, strange mystics in fall, and vicious and cruel in winter. Considering that the winter is essentially over, that one was quite out of character. If nothing else is here, then I figure the norms are going to meet us soon."

"Right now its mood is salad. Anyone has vinegar?"

Haldern detects no evil from the plant.

Leaving the cave, the forest seems a little brighter, a little warmer. At the far edge of the clearing you spot a large chariot drawn by two ghostly violet deer with silver antlers; atop the cart stands the norn, Hilde, waiting patiently.

Peering into the tree-tent you spotted before, you find what appears to be a fairly simple druidic abode; a bed of wood, a pillow of leaves, a few strange plants growing in small stone pots. Closer inspection reveals the bed is unslept in, as well as a thin wooden log covered with scratches; from its age, its easy to determine that each scratch represents one year. You also discover a rusted metal box, half-poking out of a hole in the ground with a thick lead lid. After screening it for traps, you open it to find a precisely laid out collection of magic items.

"This are great! Just what I asked mom on my last birthday? Can we keep them?"
He grabs the Greater Hat of Disguise and put it on, transforming a second after into a gray haired (and somewhat big-toothed) half-elf, and extends his hand to Kenjakana.
"Mylady, would you honor me with a dance?"

Aid Another's appreciated...

Hilde seems unsurprised by Ganorok's flickering form. She nods and, from a tiny cloth wallet girded with sewn animal teeth, produces a small scrap of precisely wrapped parchment. Regally dropping to a knee, she presses it into Ganorok's paw. "In frozen Irrisen, before next month's end, Queen Elvanna, daughter fourteenth of the Baba Yaga, will seek an artifact, the Torc of Kostchtchie, and the secrets of her sister's downfall. In the Veil of Frozen Tears, three hundred miles east of Holvingang, the demon lord's minions will contest her delving." She stands, and retrieves the chariot's reins. "A fine stage for a thief, or a kingmaker, or a demonslayer."

Unwrapped, the parchment is revealed to be a hastily scribbled copy of a poem.

A stitch in time saves nine,
But what loop will the witch queen heed?
In pointless slaughter
The Old Crone’s daughter
A hapless mob did lead.

Now she sits in tomb that’s frozen,
The traitors’ blood all spilled
Upon the path that she had chosen,
Enthroned with collar gild.

Ringed in steel, three loops times nine
Prized from the luckless seat,
Supplicants kneel, of porcelain fine,
The banished queen to meet.

It matters not who’s dared to come
The demon’s soul to claim,
The weak shall die, the strongest live
And forever more remain.

"It has as little to do with you as you wish. Ganorok requested mystery, treasure; so I deliver."

Basically- just gave him an invite to another module. For later, either to be done in game or in backstory; probably in backstory.

When Ganorok asks her to dance with him, Kenjakana again blushes deeply. She has to admit that it is nice to have someone show an interest in her. Her partnerships with Qot and Damien had been short and entirely professional. While she got the feeling that Bladud found her attractive (and the feeling was somewhat mutual), Golarion's Greatest Ham had never openly shown any interest. Her... friendship with Sir Haldern is strictly platonic.

"I would be honored," says the Sage Sorceress as she carefully takes Ganorok's hand.

It proves interesting to dance and fly at the same time.

Once the dance ends, Kenjakana realizes that she can ask an almost all-knowing entity some questions.

"What can you tell us about King Blood-Eagle's death?"

Hilde stills, and turns. "...the tangles of fate are many; for the dancer-norns to know the entire dance is no small trouble. For every dancer to know the dance entire, chaos and catastrophe."

"We can and will teach you no more than you have learnt in felling this king."

Boarding her chariot and flying alongside Haldern, you're swiftly returned to the river and your barge procession. Given your quick dealing with the zomok, they've made little progress. Haldern's children clamor for details as his wife remains content to sit back and enjoy the cruise; Senna greets you all but waits for you to speak first.

Kenjakana relays the entire story.

"I'm not sure what to make of it. I'm certainly fine with performing a good deed, but I wish they had given us some actual, unambiguous information. At this point, I think we'd be better off if I teleported to Absolom, grabbed some diamonds, and played Limited Wish Communion Sixteen Questions with Lady Iomedae... Has anyone actually done that? Or has divination been about as... vague as those norms were?"

Despite her largely polite terminology, it is clear that the frustrated Kenjakana really wants to use some harsher words.

"Remember what they say... if its easy anyone could do it. I, personally, like a little mystery in my life. And it gives me a job, you know?"
He winks at Kenjakana.

Senna frowns. "...I've not dealt with the Norns myself before, or met many who have... but from what I've read, they're beings who've always treated fairly with mortals, particularly humans; if they say they can't tell you more, then maybe no one can, or no one should..."

"I ordered a few basic divinations a few days ago; they predicted danger but a relatively avoidable danger in visiting Kaslgard. They were silent on the matter of Sveinn's passing."

I suspect that later we'll realize why we were asked to do what we did. But for the moment, let us just get to town.

Everybody should be alert, though. Something strange is likely afoot"

The rest of the journey passes slowly, but peacefully. Under Senna's flag the barge is never short of provisions or blankets, and a few city guards at each port duly troop out to make a show of guarding it.

Taking the junction to cross to the west, in late evening, Senna calls you over; she proffers a spyglass, and points south in the sky. "Take a look!"

Peeking through it, you spot what at first seems to be a tiny white speck. Focusing the lens, it resolves into a speck with stubby forelimbs and a long body of mostly frosted tail. "Ice Linnorm I'd say" comments Senna. "Someone at the city will have spotted it; there'll be a would-be slayer when we get there, I'll bet."

The next day as noon arrives, you pull into port in Kalsgard. Fully five times larger than Jol, the city lounges on the southern bank of the river. Its walls are strange and varied. Partially immense ancient stone fortifications, broken and shattered in many places and filled-in with thick wooden palisades and guard towers. The stone walls run like a spiderweb through the city, dividing districts and anointing a central castle in the middle a commanding view over the city. Smoke rises from a thousand chimneys on thatched roofs as the city buzzes with activity.

Black and red flags fly in place of Sveinn's crest, and new, bright white chalk symbols are drawn on the city walls. Senna frowns and leans forward. "What... what are those; Thassilonian? 'Teleport', 'protection', 'stop', 'unyielding', 'by generosity's hand'..."

A procession of guards approaches your berth, to help you undock. "HAIL, QUEEN SENNA SCOURGESISTER!" roar the guards, before a spindly old man with a bald head in formal dress appears. "My name is Bartholm, lady Senna, and I have been requested by the city to serve you during your stay. King Opir Eightfingers' fort has been cleared and readied for your stay, if you would care to follow me?" She nods regally and arrangements are made, carriages drawn and luggage hoisted up into them. She looks over to the rest of you. "You're welcome to explore the city; I can send a runner if I need to tell you anything. Some of the districts are spectacular. We can meet again at dinner." Haldern's family eagerly mounts up in a silver-liveried carriage to head for the fort.

As we head for the fort, Haldern would try and talk to the old man and, out of earshot of the old man, the guards. He is curious what those symbols represent

Ganorok walks silently next to Kenjakana, looking around very interested in the sights and sounds of the city. Particularly stores with exotic kinds of cheese.

Haldern, Senna is asking if you want to roam or head straight to the fort.

Ganorok, if you could select a quarter or two to visit?

Amber, Bone, Fire, Horn, Ice, Ivory, Jade Oak, Stone Quarter.

a bit of both. I'd accompany the family to the fort, make sure they're settled in. Then go roam. If there is a church to Iomedae would go there, if not would go to temple of good god, if not to kawful neutral god

Daniel walks next to Ganorok and Kenjakana, "Would you mind if I tagged along with you guys while you explore the city. I think it best to stick together."

Kenjakana casts a new contingency during the trip and casts all her hour long buffs in the morning.

False Life: 1d10 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17

Kenjakana smiles and nods at Daniel's suggestion.

"That sounds like an excellent idea," she remarks, thankful to have a melee man along for the trip. "My plans are to visit the Tien quarter. Meanwhile, I believe Mr. Mouse plans to sample cheese."

Which one is the Tien district?

Haldern and family head with Senna's procession for the fort allocated to Senna; an old stone construction near the eastern wall, now surrounded by cobblestones and busy streets where men and palisades once rested. Now with richly appointed living quarters on the first and second floor, its easy to find residence.

Ganorok visits the Oak quarter. The most easterly district, it lies upon the bank of the Rimeflow river. Crossing through streets girded by river mud, he spies mighty shipyards and forests of lumber arriving in boats and being undocked. Duringhis wandering, a sailor stumbles his way out of a tavern and blinks at the sight of Ganorok. "...what sinking ship did you scurry out of?"

He then visits the Amber quarter; a hive of production and manufacturing. Blacksmiths send sparks flying over forges, stone is worked and cut into bricks. He also comes across a small argument between a few brawny forge-hands swigging deeply from a canteen of water between shifts. "Of course he should rule, he's Blood-Eagle's son!" "And the father never saw fit to leave him the throne over fifty years of rule!" "So he isn't perfect; he's strong, honorable, knows the city- better than some outsider, linnorm-killer bedamned!" Noticing the rat, one turns. "Oi, outlander, whaddayouthink? Thorbjorn should rule or what?"

Kenja, Daniel and eventually Ganorok visit the Jade quarter. Home to many Tian migrants, it shows through the details. Prayer beads on wrists of thin-eyed passer-bys, long strips of paper marked with black in calligraphy dangling from windowsills. The quarter is split between humble houses and larger manors; all of Ulfen architecture, all with Tian details. The quarter seems to have taken a turn for the worse in recent months. Several houses are poorly maintained and others seem to have been converted to a new purpose; many with bags under their eyes troop in to buildings beneath the Tian symbol for 'sleep'. Shattered and partially boarded windows show rooms full of sleeping men and women with a light violet haze in the air.

"I wonder what has happened here recently. Were you looking for anyone or anything in particular here or just wandering around."

Perception: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (16) + 23 = 39

Daniel's keen nose detects a narcotic emanating from those rooms.

Further down the road, a few shops still bustle with activity and Tian goods.

Daniel sniffs the air and then says to Kenja, "That may explain the state of some of these buildings. There is a narcotic coming from those buildings. I'm guessing, they just don't care anymore. I wonder how long this has been going on as the disrepair doesn't seem to have been going on too long."

Ganorok smiles, and transforms into a burly sailor, human-sized. He answers in a low voice.

"None, mate. Don't drink anymore, you are loosing your senses!"
He walks away, smiling, wondering if he has made a sailor sober.

Ganorok ponders the question.

"The one that follows the rule of the law shall rule. I think the custom in this lands is for the killer of a linnorm to rule, as a way to prove their capacity as leader. He who does it should rule. And if the son of a previous ruler is a good candidate, he can hire me to find a linnorm for him, so he can slay it, and rule as his father did!"

Ganorok keeps his ears and eyes wide open, trying to identify what the problem was, and who he can ask about it. He smells problems, and problems means work, and work means cheese.

Perception Check: 1d20 + 30 ⇒ (5) + 30 = 35

The sailor shakes his head and stumbles off.

A few heads nod, others shake; they return to their argument without comment.

Ganorok spots a rare hive of activity; a building with windows hidden by curtains instead of boards with a large red symbol painted on the side of the bright wooden building.
