Yep - Lavinia nuked Sasserine, score 15,650 CR 1/2s for Lavinia. ^_^

My players did not seem to show any remorse at the effective annihilation of their home town, families, friends and whomever they hated growing up however. Tsk tsk

Hey ... outsiders and dragons are not exactly particular at times with whom they get their groove on. And this is D&D - who remembers the girdles of femininity/masculinity? (3e, they cost 6k a pop as a one-shot item, Fort DC 22 to resist gender change on the spot...)

PC: Guias Kel, 4th Level Champion (BoNS)
Location: Basement of Vanderboren Manor
Adventure: The Bullywug Gambit
Catalyst: Mud+Chief Lorpth

After the heroes saved Lavinia and were charged with rescuing the remaining Jade Ravens, they jouneyed down to the basement where they found Chief Lorpth doing his best Jabba the Hutt impersonation while Limae desperately dogged Chunkus. Guias, a valiant champion of Pelor, charged into the fray, attempting to attack the chief. Unfortunately, all that mud was pretty slippery, and he stumbled, falling flat on his face near the chief's feet. The chief proceeded to slam his nasty greatclub down on poor Guias (not very sporting!) and then when Guias rose he got another clubbing... sending him crashing down to the mud once again, only this time at -12HP.

Guias, however, was currently the apple of Lavinia's eye, so between her contacts, cash, and his friends help, he's likely on his way back from the dead... albiet with fewer XPs!

Dark Archive

Name of PC: Keblon Thistleman
Class/Level: human beguiler 6 / Fighter 2
Adventure: Here There Be Monsters
Location of Death: Ruins in Fogmire
Catalyst: Pouncing Olangru

The night was not expected to be uneventful, but as Keblon Thistleman took his post as first watch little did he know it would be his last. He thought himself prepared with an enchantment to see invisible creatures and a Gem of Brightness nearby providing adequate light. To Keblon’s dismay and eventual demise, an exceptionally intelligent and stealthy demonic ape was lurking just beyond the wary adventurer’s sight. With stunning quickness and overwhelming power the demon charged and pounced upon Keblon, striking him with both wickedly sharp claws across his chest and a gaping maw biting deep into his shoulder. Keb was so surprised by the sudden onslaught and still reeling from the pure force of the first assault, he had nary the time to gather his wits and loose sword or spell before the demonic ape came at him again. With a frenzied knuckle-walking dance the deadly primate retreated to better position himself to pounce once again. This time scoring deeply with a claw the fight was over for Keblon before he was even aware there was a threat, sending him to meet the rest of his family (which had been murdered in Sasserine) in Boccob’s Bunker.

Characters: Commodore Hexen Ineptus - Barbarian 12, Commodore Owen Da Fighter - Fighter 12, Buttercup - 9 HD Elite Griffon cohort
Location: Khala's Pad, Taboo Temple
Adventure: City of Broken Idols
Catalyst: melee badness for everyone!

Short Version:

Buttercup dies first, shrugging off the AoO-delivered held Empowered Poison+tentacle from Cuddles the Bilewretch of Holashner, then eating a quickened Empowered Poison (against which it failed the DC 25 Fortitude save) backed up by a full melee salvo from Cuddles.

Next to die is Commodore Hexen Ineptus AND the couatl (the one that gives up 3 of its feathers to pay the costs for Lesser Planar Ally), courtesy of a heavily-buffed Ulioth using his last dual-action round of the day. Nine successful spear attacks with an Unholy Spear (packing the damage-buff spell one takes 5 hp to add 3d6 damage per hit) perforated Ineptus' various vital organs one time too many, while his final tail slap-constrict-bite sequence outright slew the couatl.

Third and last to die in the big shebang is Owen Da Fighter, courtesy of Olangru's one Frightful Attack of the day and a furious assault, dealing out more than enough hp to outright kill the fighter too.

Sadly, they all had bonded Lifestones, which would ultimately spell the antagonists' doom...

Character: Jade "Appetizer" - Beguiler 13/Sorceror 1
Location: area 26, level 2 of the Taboo Temple - 2nd assault by the PCs
Adventure: City of Broken Idols
Catalyst: Two cheesed-off Skinwalker Acolytes packing Metamagic Rods of Empower simultaneously blasting 3 PC's with Blasts of Flame, dealing 128 hit points of fire damage, against which the beguiler failed BOTH of the Reflex saving throws.

Character: Mamodia, Olman cohort cleric11
Adventure: City of Broken Idols
Location: Taboo Island temple (room 30)
Catalyst: 3 Hezrou demons

The constant, repeated of effects of Blasphemy, Chaos hammer, Unholy blight and 3 Hezrou stenches *every round* horribly incapacitated everyone in the party and nearly resulted in a TPK.

Unfortunately, the cohort was the only one that could cast teleport (i.e. he was their ride home).

Last nights session claimed the first victim in our campaign.

PC: Aukan Tooth Ogolakanu, male goliath cleric 4/ordained champion 1.
Adventure: The Sea Wyvern's Wake
Location of Death: The Sea Wyvern
Catalyst: The fourth claw attack of the blue slaad

Description: Tooth was nursing Father Feres during his illness when the blue slaad popped forth. Vyzira, the female human scout 4/ranger 1 was standing just outside the room and moved in to attack, scoring a critical hit giving bleed 10 from the critical hit deck. 5 attacks later by the blue slaad Vyzira was down on negative hit points. To protect her Tooth moved in and took an heavy pounding from the slaad who dropped him to -16 on the fourth claw attack. The slaad dropped to negative hit points from the bleed at the end of it's round.

PC: Old Grandad, 6th level human fighter/rogue (and keeper of the Migrus Locker)
Adventure: Here There Be Monsters
Catalyst: A hungry T. Rex

After the party washed up on the shore, they spent a few minutes recovering supplies (including a few things they didn't know they had, like a scroll of shrink object). They intended to rustle up the NPCs and make camp when suddenly a great beast came charging from the jungle. Old Grandad, who was very excited about the possibility of pummeling a dinosaur with his fists, leapt to the attack. Unfortunately for Old Granddad, the T. Rex was able to take the punch without losing much steam. Despite dealing 23 points of damage to the dinosaur's insides, Old Grandad was digested.

El Skootro

Liberty's Edge

Name of PC: Gabriel Kolko
Class/Level: human Fighter 9
Adventure: Tides of Dread
Location of Death: Farshore
Catalyst: Flesh Golems

Long, sad story: On the day of the invasion by the Crimson Fleet, warning fires from natives they had stationed on the isles alerted the PCs to the impending attack. Instead of staying as one group on shore waiting for pirates to fight, the druid Enki, as a dolphin, went out to cast wood shape on some ships. The rogue Kalidore, as a manta ray, followed suit, entering the captain's cabin of ships, starting fires, and, believe it or not, taking the time to loot!.

No matter how much I emphasized the size of the fleet, and described how these disturbances were only causing the pirates to get into longboats and therefore into Farshore quicker, they stayed out there.

That left the bard/cleric Gunther, the mage Theldore, and their one pure fighter, Kolko, to fight hand to hand on land. They dealt with the 6 pirates easily enough, but when the yuan-ti began shooting fireballs, Theldore got distracted and kept returning his own, getting more angry that one fireball did not take out whoever was out there, and 'how can he see me?' when he was sending out fireballs making himself a target, duh.

That left Gunther and Kolko 2 on 4 v the flesh golems. With 2 golems left, Gunther retreated for some self healing, and then Kolko said, "You better come help me soon." What he meant to say was, "You better come heal me now." But, he said what he said. Gunther came to his side, but fought on, no healing for Kolko due to the lack of communication. The golems split their attacks and one dealt Kolko 14 points of damage at which point Danny placed his fig on its side. Gunther went to revive him only to learn that he had had 3 hp, now -11, and was dead.

And, to make matters worse, Kolko wore the crown which if activated gives DR, but he was 'saving it for a bigger fight later.'

Pride goeth before the fall. . . . and never split the damn party!!

Character: Char fighter/warmage 4/1
Adventure: SWW
Location: Lost shrine of Tomochoan
Catalyst: Basilisk

Not technically dead, but many adventures away from being back in the game. Urol the gnome's 'plenty' of stone salves was one too few. Trey managed to deal a lot of damage to the critter but caught a face full of gaze becoming granite. Shadowscale's leopard did not fair much better. Char was number three to stare into the eyes of death. He also lost the vote with the first potion going to the damage dealer and ship's captain. The second to the animal both the druids were fond of. Oops nothing left for Char. Oh well you can be the new bowsprit or anchor...

I got one!!! (My first PC death)

PC: Saris Van Sky (Swashbuckler 4)
Adventure: The Bullywug Gambit
Location of Death: V27 in Vanderboren Manor
Catalyst: Drevoraz and his big, bad sword

Saris strode bravely (and perhaps a bit arrogantly) into battle with the brutish half orc and fell from a nasty full attack. It's a shame. (Actually, I may have the Meravanchis pay to have him raised. It'd be nice to add another chip to Avner's shoulder.)

PC: Sir Allen's Cleric 8
Adventure: Here There Be Monsters
Location: 2nd Gargoyle Ambush Cliffsite
Catalyst: 2 foes with diving attacks on a surprise round plus 2 full-round attacks

End Result: 120 hit points of claws, biting and goring damage before the character ceases to be considered flat-footed translated into becoming carrion.

Character: Yvy (human female, sorceress/malconvoker 17)
Adventure: Into the maw
Location: trying to rescue lavinia from Lilanth
Cause of Death: Lilanth finished off by unholy blights from hezrou demons and a blade barrier cast by Lilanth

Details- after her death she was brought back by a contingent revivify and healed by our cleric, so it wasn't much of a death.

Character: Tommen Taskerhil (human male, wizard/loremaster/fatespinner 17)
Adventure: Into the maw
Location: trying to rescue lavinia from Lilanth
Cause of Death: S'sharra unleashed a full attack on him inflicting several points of Con damage from her wounding weapon and plenty of damage. It was enough to kill him. His body was drifting down towards the lava below Lavinia's cage when he was saved by Argent who swooped in and carried his corpse to safety. He was later ressurected. It should be noted that S'sharra was actually gunning for the party cleric, Breca, and on the round before had brought him to -5 hp. However Yvy used telekinesis to move his body out of the way and save it from falling into lava. He was healed before S'sharra could finish him off. S'sharra fled the fight relatively unscathed and will certainly be back later in the campaign to continue tormmenting the party.

Character: Joselin "the Journalist", Cleric 15 of Fharlanghn
Adventure: Serpents of Scuttlecove
Location: The Wreck
Catalyst: Cap'n 'Bilgerut' Norah's maximized CL 20th Death Throes, packing 160 hp of force damage, against which the cleric's Reflex saving throw did not meet or exceed the DC 23. I elected to house rule the spell allows a Reflex save for half.

Detail: Her first lifestone revivified her in short order in the murky waters below. Fortunately, Water Breathing does not have a (D) in its duration descriptor, or she would have drowned and died horribly moments after said lifestone kicked in. Now, only Torsin has a spare lifestone.

Detail #2: Our Heroes elected to play with a Deck of Many Things, which for the Journalist resulted in drawing the Donjon, leaving her gear behind and transporting her to Divided's Ire, where Our Heroes are traveling to next...

For the now, she communicates with the group through the pages of her Journal.

Forgive me fellow DMs for I have sinned, it has been 2 and a half months since I last killed a PC:

Character: Issus, Lizardfolk Barbarian 13th level or so
Adventure: City of Broken Idols
Location: Xeramat's Landing, Area 2
Catalyst: Should we stay or should we go? Choosing wrong.

Having entered Taboo temple from the topside, they party battles down and has a huge fight, eventually dispatching the skinwalkers. They move into area 2, surviving the Symbol of Death with a bit of luck.

Kelric, having made the save, moves into the room to investigate while the rest of the party stays back. Xeramat makes his appearance and combat ensues.

Issus, out of the room, asks the party if we are staying to fight or fleeing? The party chooses to stay and Issus charges up to Xeramat. Xeramat gets off a second Symbol, instantly killing the 141 hit point Issue dead.

(Side note: Waiting until under 40 hit points before fleeing is much too low for Xeramat. He should flee at 100 or so. I stayed with 90 and the giant octopus druid and manta-ray swimming ftr/rog killed him. Dang, I really wanted to swap out Khala with him.)

Character: Yoda Was Right's Elven Wizard 7
Adventure: Here There Be Monsters
Location: Shrine to Demogorgon (the room with the Lemorian Golem)
Catalyst: Precariously balanced atop a baboon statue vs. Ring of the Ram expending 3 charges = ...

Short Version: Ebil M's elven wizard, having used the short-range swift action teleporting boots to place herself atop the baboon statue to hwarf an Acid Breath spell at Olangru - which he handily evaded - resulted in retalation in the form of Olangru's Ring of the Ram, sending her plummetting into the Fire Pit.

Between the previous round's barrage of telekinetically-accelerated acid flasks, the force damage of the ramming impact, the falling damage and two consecutive rounds' of 6d6 fire damage, the elf died a hideous character death. Chalk up another kill for Olangru!

Scarab Sages

PC: Quinn - Elven priestess of Pelor 19th level
Location: Avernus
Adventure: Side trek during EoME
Catalyst: An advanced Malebranche

When the mage of the party was stunned via a PWS the rest of the party became a bit disorganized, leaving the priestess to fight 1 on 1 with the Malbranche. Its huge two-bladed sword made quick work of her.

PC: Kunam, 19th level 1/2 Orc Ninja
Location: Ambush in Pazunia
Adventure: EoME
Catalyst: S'Shara

The party was beset by Major Enderan and his merry band of Lemorian Lancers and Bodak T-rexes. Along with them came the perky demoness S'Shara who still wanted some payback from the group's time in the Maw. She engaged Kunam first, since she tore him to pieces the last time they met. This encounter was no different.

Ninjas are tough to play against demons.

Character: Buttercup, advanced griffon cohort of Jade the Beguiler
Adventure: Into the Maw
Location: Divided's Ire, above the 'split' between the two isles
Catalyst: 9 negative levels and a CL 15 Blasphemy = ...

Short Version:

After Our Heroes started to rumble with the nycoloth mercenaries on the ginormous balcony, the quartet of nabassu across the way on the edge of the caldera of the volcano zapped the griffon with 3 energy drains dealing 9 negative levels total. The first two attempts to do something horrible failed utterly despite the negative levels - however, the CL 15 Blasphemy outright slew the effectively 4 HD griffon, sending her descending 2,000 feet below towards the Sea Wyvern moored below.

Character: Lord Starmight, Elf Mage 8
Adventure: Tides of Dread
Location: the harbor of Farshore
Catalyst: Two vrocks

The conjurer, hovering upon his flying carpet just off the stern of the Brine Harlot, proud of the performance of his summoned quartet of babbling allips, had made himself visible after doing something or other warranting the loss of his invisibility.

The two surviving vrocks took exception to the Wisdom draining undead, recognizing the arcane spellcaster as the priority target. First one flew over, landing atop the poop deck, firing off a stunning screech that the elf managed to shrug off. The second vrock teleported into position and fired off its own stunning screech - which proved efficacious against the dangerous mage with his four mirror images.

A round passed, much to the mage's chagrin as the two vrocks unloaded full round attacks on him, shredding his images and then him, rendering him into a steaming pile of carrion atop his hovering carpet. The allips immediately dissappeared, greatly aiding the vrocks in their attempts to survive the violence dealt out to them by the player characters...

Harsh!

Good old Turin, still cranking out the obituaries :)

Sczarni

Character: Escher
Class: Ardent/Elocator
Lvl 17 (Cohort of Z)
Catalyst: Being out front when the Bar-Lgura charges.

So the party is moving through Prince of Demons, and has managed to secure the beachhead, kill arendagrost, and has just picked a fight with (and killed) Iggwilv.

During the fight, both Tetradarian and the spell-summoned Aspect of Grazzt were present for a turn, before Olan the cleric of Pelor turned them.

A minute later, Ulu-Thug the assassin and his band of war-monkeys (who have been following the party for some time, looking for an opportune moment to strike) show up invisible at the edge of Z's touchsight.

In a moment of bad tactical decisions, Z's player move Escher to the side of the group that was exposed to the invisible enemies (thinking the mini's i put out for the teleporting-in-not-yet-here-guys were really there and the only threats). The Bar-Lgura sees invisible caster type up front, charge, pounce, dead cohort.

She is currently Revenanced and waiting for the next game to start to decide how to handle this.

Unfortunately for Turin, I being the mage accidnetally recorded the lost hp on my hireling cleric's sheet, not mine. I was actually at -2 not -10 when I left Saturday afternoon. I am keeping the cleric's sheet for your review when we continue the Campaign. For my mistake as a player I have shelled out the gold to purchase a scroll of contigency and another one for a feign death spell. In effect the contigency was to appear dead when dropping to negative hp. This way my mistake as a player can be accounted for in character with how things panned out on Saturday.

Also had I not made the mistake, the cleric's injecting, spellstoring dagger actually had a sudden maximized Cure Serious, and another cure serious for injection ready to go, all he had to do was charge me with my wonderful AC of 5 (or passed the dagger to marcus's character)and I would have been at full hp.

Since it took a full melee (all hits landing) plus an additional hit from the first Vrock to drop my mage, I would have likely withstood another volley from the one who wasn't left as a gibbering idiot (remember the allips would have continued to attack the one who had already lost 1/2 his wisdom).

The bottom line is that you are being denied my mage's death on account of my clerical error. If you would like to take credit for a dead muk instead, more power to you:)

We only started Savage Tide last semester, so I know this obituary is kinda late, but it's still pretty impressive.

Cole Greenshoals, aquatic halfling scout: not technically dead, but in the care of the church of Kord after succumbing to the savage tide from a pirate in the first adventure.

Dagalur, orc fighter/ranger leviathan hunter: killed by the aquatic hydra in a massive underwater battle. Pretty straight-forward, but it definitely ranks as the most character appropriate death.

Graath, hadozee rogue: death by the cobalt dragon I placed on an island at the end of the Pearl Current to give PC's more XP. I believe it was death by all-out assault after several breath weapon attacks had failed.

Eric, human hexblade: a pretty straight forward stand and deliver death at the hands of the Mother of All, I let his soul be taken up by Procampus since his death pretty much gave the other PC's the chance they needed to kill that b***h of an abberation.

Kjell, human fighter (Dagalur's replacement character): death by tyrannosaurus, along with Skald, who had just started to be liked by the PC's. This still rates the most vicious encounter of the game so far; I mean, seriously, you wake up from being shipwrecked then BAM!!!-tyrannosaur.

Darrin, human dusklblade: failed a will save vs. mummy fear in the Olman catacombs, followed by two simultaneous mummy criticals resulting in 43 points of bludgeoning damage to a skull. (This was Eric's replacement character.)

Lukin Greenshoals, aquatic halfling rogue/scout: In 25 years of playing D&D, this was the first player character I've had die from mummy rot (after 6 days-a pretty gruesome, cool, yet realistic death by disease.) Mummies 2, PC's 2-the third mummy was just bull-rushed off one of the narrow stone bridges, waiting for all eternity for his chance for revenge.

KIA at the conclusion of play is good enough for me my friend. Loss of consciousness is just as effective as outright death at dismissing all (D) spells in effect at the time, so either way the allips went ~pouf~.

That's an interesting claim which doesn't appear to be backed up by d20SRD.com. Where's it mentioned in the PHB?

d20SRD.com is not quite the same thing as the actual SRD I downloaded from WotC - it's close, but not quite there.

I'm not able to precisely remember off the top of my head, but as I recall, unconsciousness is as good as outright death in dismissing effects.

If nothing else, since that is how things played out at the table, that is at least the effect of the situation - the character passed out and his dismissible spells folded in game. For all practical purposes, how it played out stands.

Sovereign Court

Session two of Elora's Savage Tide in Eberron:

PC: Corum, 2nd level half-daelkyr rogue
Adventure: There is no honor
Location: Area P1 under Parrot Island
Catalyst: huecuva cleric's death touch

It's not a good idea to send both the group cleric and druid swimming out of the caves to uncover the entrance, leaving behind a healer-less party with ravenous zombies still on the loose. It's REALLY not a good idea to then move into a room with no exit and expect a mere wooden door to stand up to the zombies -- and once they break through, to stand toe-to-toe with Veldimar Krund while the party barbarian tries vainly to claw his way up the entry shaft (failed save against cause fear) and the wizard crouches in the corner using the last and weakest of his spells. Did I mention that the only reason the PCs weren't wiped out earlier in the session was the cleric's highly effective turning of the zombies and cleric?? *shaking head in bewilderment*

Character: Shallasar (Sea-elf)
Adventure: Tides of Dread
Location: Off the coast of the Isle of Dread
Catalyst: Wandering encounter with Megalodon.

He dived overboard to fight it, got bitten, got swallowed whole and died to it's stomach acid, one round before the rest of the party killed it.

There was a funny side, this player's earlier character (a Truedive Shifter) died at the teeth of a Savage Huge Shark, when it bit him in it's death throws after he had killed it.

He doesn't seem to have much luck with sharks.

Characters: Ineptus Barbarian 17 & Monkamuck,multiclassed warpriest 17
Location: causeway leading to Vanthus' hacienda over the caldera
Adventure: Into the Maw

Catalyst: A full-round attack by an upgunned Vanthus

Short Version:

Vanthus calls out Ineptus, Monkamuck and Da Fighter for mano-a-mano combat. Ineptus and Vanthus spar for about nine seconds when The Journalist decides to interfere and toss off a (counterspelled via ring) Greater Dispel Magic. This in turn rather exacerbated Vanthus' half-dozen Shadows of Socobenoth and half-dozen advanced dread wraiths to join in on the fun. Lazravakus, the magma drake also joined in on the fun, originally commanded by Vanthus to 'ensure the others do not interfere'.

Ineptus was on the receiving end of the kind of damage he has been known to dole out time and again - to the tune of 402 total hit points in a flurry of 8 melee attacks in a single full-round action, rendering him into a corpse that could only technically be classified as 'mostly intact' enough for the Lifestone to work.

A round or two later, Monkamuck stepped up to bat, and received the same treatment, suffering a whopping 499 hit points of damage, likewise becoming something that could only technically be ascribed as being a 'mostly intact' corpse.

One can toss on the party's allied, named Titan as well, who was CON drained by the Dread Wraiths to a CON score of 2 thence reduced to -12 hit points from the cold damage after being the focus of much hostile intention by the aforementioned magma drake, all six dread wraiths and even some loving affection by Vanthus himself.

The Titan's timely introduction by Da Fighter was the most likely reason (especially in conjunction with Monkamuck's and Ineptus' last lifestones activating) that none of the other 6 player characters died equally messy deaths.

Escher, Lvl 17 Ardent/Elocator cohort of Z
Catalyst: Finger of Death from Nulonga the Juju Zombie.

The party has fought their way through Wat Dagon, have murdered everything they have come across with great violence, and have acquired the Master Pearl.

Z and Escher (the teleporters and couriers) have the pearl (Z does) and are high tailing it out to the front door.

Nulonga has had a couple of rounds to reform, cast fly, and move towards the Bot room when he sees the girls running.

FoD gets cast on Escher (she was in the front of the 2), she fails by a couple of points, dead cohort. Again.

Z gets away and immediately plane-shifts to Elysium calling out for Pelor to take the Master Pearl away.

What ho, calling on Pelor to grab the big D's Master Pearl ? THAT is a distraction, sure enough ... I think the 2nd cohort is going to die horribly ... again ... ^^

I'm proud to say that I had 4 casualties in our last session.

Name: Allanah (Wizard/Cleric/Mystic Theurge/Abjurant Champion/ 18), and Yvy (Sorceress/Malconvoker/ 19)
Adventure: Enemies of my Enemy
Location: Bagromar's tent
Catalyst: Babau Assassins

Details: After S'shara escaped in Into the Maw, she returned to Demogorgon and recruited a band of skilled babau assassins to assist her. After Demogorgon's vast intelligence network learned that the heroes where gallivanting through the planes in an attempt to gather his enemies, he learned that they might be coming for Bagromar. Thus, he had S'shara and her minions go to Bagromar and wait. When the heroes showed up in his tent, they were ambushed. Both Yvy and Allanah were killed by the sneak attacking babau. Yvy was revived by a contingent revivify, but she was dead for a few secons. Allanah's corpse had to be pulled from the fight and raised later.

Name: Sir Roland Pommel Point (Paladin/Knight of the Chalice 19) and Breca Angsparr (dwarf Cleric/Demonwrecker 20)

Adventure: Enemies of my Enemy
Location: Bagromar's tent round 2
Catalyst: Dingo Slag the balor, and a molydeus with a vorpal axe.

Details: The heroes were forced to flee the first ambush, and it was only through a miracle cast by Breca that burned 5000xp that they were able to escape the dimensional lock. Otherwise it would have been a probable TPK. However they decided to rest/recover and go back in. When they returned Bagromar was gone (having gone with S'shara to report what had happened to Demogorgon). When they returned they found Dingoslag in the tent with a pair of mariliths having some fun.The mariliths were dispatched quickly after Yvy used time stop and a series of delayed blast fire balls. However dingoslag was still ready to fight and unharmed. He and Roland got into melee, and after a full round of attacks he had Roland pretty hurt. He then managed to pull Roland into his body with his flaming whip and burn him with his nimbus of fire. This finished the paladin off.

Shortly after a molydeus demon rushed into the tent to help dingoslag. The molydeus made his first attack on Breca with his dancing vorpal axe. It was a natural 20. Normally, Breca is immune to crits due to an expensive custome made ring of living undeath. However, I ruled that the axe would still lop his head off, and even with the ring he would still need his head, so that was it for Breca. He was raised shortly after by Allanah.

However, anyone who has been following my journal would know that Breca has somehow managed to survive every single game session of the Savage Tide, and is the only character in my party that has been around from the very start and has managed to progress from 1st to 20th level.

Killing Breca was a big feather in my cap. Even his player was happy for me, and felt like it was a good way to go. I mean if you are going to die, having your head chopped off by the vorpal weapon of a CR 19 demon is a pretty solid death. The player knew I'd been gunning for Breca for a long time, and there were many occasions in the campaign where he was down to his last few hit points and I just couldn't seal the deal. Now he thinks the heat is off him a little, but that is hardly the case. The next couple game sessions will be the final adventure and it will be balls to the walls with many opportunities for PC death. I expect to be adding some more postings before we wrap things up.

Way to go Mr Dungeon! Awesome deaths!

Characters: Geth, Psion 9
Location: Shrine of Zotzilaha (spelling?)
Adventure: Tides of Dread

Catalyst: Breath weapon from Aspect

Afraid of entering the steam-filled shrine, the PCs watched as fire bats streamed from the shaft of the volcano.

The psion used his Dimension Door ability to bring the cleric, who had the idol hidden in his backpack, to the shrine.

Unfortunately, the Aspect, angered at the intrusion and the theft of the idol, came next in the initiative order, breathed on the party. The psion took both the regular damage and the CON damage, killing him on the spot.

Next on the initiative order was the cleric, who produced the idol, thus halting the Aspect's attack.

(I find it funny 'cause the cleric could have walked over to the alcove as a move action. I don't know why the psion player thought it was necessary to dim door the cleric 20 feet away. Was he showing off? Did he not realize that he only have 30-something hit points?)

Anyway, Zotzilaha was pleased by the return of the idol, and the "sacrifice" of the psion, that he "converted" one of the treasures into the Raise Dead price for the cleric.

third TPK
second character: Maul - 7th/warforged/cleric

the PC were getting through dark mountain pass, and doing fairly well,
they survived the centipedes, and the rouge searched for traps, but when the door was opened, and the room described.
"An empty moldering room with a dark pool of water near the back wall..."
the warforged cleric decided to be first in the room. he had already taken some damage, and the black pudding does love its metal and wood. one attack, the rest of the players panicked and scattered, leaving poor maul there to take another hit that brought him to inactivity levels. then he was engulfed the next round as the players locked the pudding and it's PC meal back in the room.
Maul's magical warhammer survived and is still in the room though.

to be fair,i'm not a killer DM, but i've warned my PC's numerous times that the isle is a very dangerous place, and i would be pulling no punches, so be careful.
maybe next time they'll stop drinking and listen (or at least search)! :P

My Campaign's first two deaths:

Chapter 3: The sea Wyvern's Wake

Character deaths:
Thrathis (wizard/master specialist 4) [played by Tarlane]
Dirk (spellthief 4) [also.. played by Tarlane...]

I feel bad that the first two deaths were from the same player... :(

1) Rowyn's Dance of death:
Our Wizard, Thrathis, began to have something of a relationship with the Jade Raven Sorceress Liamae. Rowyn, hiding aboard the Sea Wyvern, used disguise self to lure him away for a private dance, upon which she succeeded to Disguise Spell a Hold Person and Coup De Grace him. Very sad way to go, but it seemed to heighten the sense of unease the others had over that fact that someone on board was trying to kill them.

Fortunately, they did succeed in finding her (hiding in the Ballast). I'm proud, however, that instead of just executing her they stripped her of her magical gear and set her adrift on a barrel a day out from shore. Perhaps another reappearance from Rowyn is in order later on in the campaign?

2) Dirk's Folley
Our player who lost Thrathis the Wizard then came up with a Spellthief named Dirk whose ship was came upon by the Crimson Fleet and he was the only survivor. He introduced himself and was just settling in when the very next encounter happened to be against that damn Flotsom Ooze. The ooze came up near the side and critically struck him for 43 points of damage, killing him instantly. The true tragedy is that he hadn't even gotten to really act in that battle before he died. Hadn't gotten to really act at all for the 15 minutes he had been around in the group. That damn Flotsom Ooze is ridiculous, even for six players.

Note: if your wondering about the level, yes, they are level 4 in a level 5 chapter, but there are six players so they've been slightly behind. If it makes any difference, that last encounter with the Ooze leveled them to 5...

I hope I don't kill his next character, a Warlock, with the hazards of Tamoachan. -.-;

i killed one person's PC 5 times, i think, and her cohort 3 or 4.

this was Z in my party, and her cohort Escher.

the cleric Olan i killed at least 5 times over the course of the AP, as well as HIS cohort at least once or twice.

don't feel bad, these AP's are pretty brutal when it comes to combat.

and don't feel bad about the 6 PC's...i had 6 and 3 cohorts, and was still able to challenge them and kill off a bunch until the last couple of adventures (stupid 19-21st lvl PC's, hate high level play!)

keep up the good work, and keep the obits coming!

Character: Joselin the Journalist (Cleric 20 of Fharlanghn)

Location: #13, Wat Dagon
Adventure: Prince of Demons

Catalyst: One cheesed-off Prince of Demons with Greater Ironguard and a 37-point Power Attack against a cleric lacking much of an AC and Sheltered Vitality...

Short Version: Two-full-round attacks on a cleric down hit points after eating 3 failed saving throws against Arengdagrosts' trio of breath weapons - in spite of the @#!! half-melee-damage reduction from a certain Book of Exalted Deeds spell - resulted in a loss of 12 CON and being torn asunder by Demogorgon's twin tentacles.

Sadly, the ONLY character death in the entire session and IIRC for all 3 of the last chapters post-Vanthus. muttergrumble

I ran our final session of Savage Tide today. In the most glorious and carnage ridden game session of the campaign, there were 6 fatalities.

Argent (20th level super Gish)- killed by Gromsfeld in the final chamber with the shadow pearl, after being hacked down by his battle axe. He was resurrected not long afterwards.

Breca (20th level cleric/demonwrecker)- killed 2 times by demogorgon and his rotting tentacles. Was resurrected twice in battle.

Sir Roland (18th level paladin/knight of the chalice). Killed 2 times in by demogorgon, but was resurrected twice.

Allanah (19th level mystic theurge) killed by demogorgon and was resurrected.

In the end the heroes won by the skin of their teeth after a grueling, grueling battle against big D. The details of this truly epic battle will be posted over the next couple of weeks in my campaign journal- canuk runs savage tide.

Characters: Kelric, Water Gensai Clr 17
Location: Balcony of Divided Ire
Adventure: Into the Maw
Catalyst: Poor Tactical Choice, Revenge

When S'Sharra first attacked the party, Kelric's Invisibiliy Purge was a rude surprise. She aborted the attack and managed to flee from the party.

Following them invisibly at a good distance, S'Sharra gave a malice-filled smile to see the party decide to rest for the night on the open balcony between the two sides of Divided Ire.

She waited for the cleric to sleep and then quickly swooped in and attacked. In a single round with four hits and four sneak attacks, the party cleric was quite dead.

Alas, S'Sharra was quickly hit by a luckily placed faerie fire and a feeblemind. Without the good sense to run away, the wicked demon was cut down by the rest of the party.

Sovereign Court

Character: Kiki rogue 9
Location: tar pits
Adventure: Tides of Dread
Catalyst: Being bite sized

We play with hero points so this is actually a near death. It would have been a real if we were playing old school D&D though. A dramatic description can be found in the Lidu Diaries, but basically Kiki found herself within charging distance of Temauhti-tecuani (I think we forgot to take into account the 40 move plus reach), and then, to make matters worse, the beast scored a critical! Kiki was - con in one bite. The swallow whole ability would have been the end of her!

Sovereign Court RPG Superstar 2013 Top 4, RPG Superstar 2011 Top 16

PC: Arros Firebrand, human Harmonium Cleric 10/Demonwrecker 5
Location: Taboo Temple near rear entrance spear trap
Adventure: City of Broken Idols
Catalyst: Chief Achchuitl's Full Attack Counter strike!

After slaying Xerkemat, 6 skinwalkers and an Acolyte the valiant Constable followed his party's warriors in pursuit of several more skinwalkers only to be ambushed by the Chief and another Acolyte and trapping them against the Flesh Jelly's chamber. Using his ring of spellbattle the Demonwrecker stole an Acolyte's invisibity spell and moved up to cast a stealthy Harm on the Chief. Even after dropping 150 points of devestation he got himself perished taking the Chiefs onslaught of Flaming Macahuitl, Shield Bashing, bite and claws to the face! Ultimately it was too much for him to bear and he died.

Only the backup cleric/bard/divine tricksters handy scrolls of Revenance and Revivify brought the Constable back from St. Cuthbert's manicured fields on Arcadia.

This is disheartening ... roughly six consecutive weeks without a single character death in all the Savage Tide campaigns in play ? The horror! The tragedy! ... Worse, the silence ...
