Superman Returns rocks!
I could watch Kevin Spacey read a Chili's menu for two hours and be entertained.
And the first Superman action sequence left me in tears.
Wish I had more arms to give it more thumbs up.
Heathansson, old buddy, I respect you, really I do, but I really didn't like the "sequel to Superman II" concept, and it just rubbed me the wrong way.
Its not even that I didn't like Superman I and II, but I would have reacted the same way if "Batman Begins" had been a sequal to "Batman Returns" and ignored the last two Batman movies. I think the franchise needs a new start, and I couldn't shake that the actor playing Superman/Clark was playing Christopher Reeve playing Superman/Clark.
Then again, I liked Kevin Smith script ideas that he talked about years back in Wizard magazine.

I have to admit, I was just stunned when I heard the theme was going to be to make it a sequal to Superman II, and that may have biased me. Its actually a running thing with me to sit down and figure out if I have given a movie a fair shake or if I let preconceived notions bias my enjoyment (I thought about that alot watching the Star Wars prequels).
Then again, I also loved the plot that Kevin Smith outlined for Wizard when he first left the project, even though it was years ago, and I was a little ticked when some of the people they interveiwed seemed to be taking shots at his script on the A&E special about Superman. I guess sometimes I can be loyal to a fault.
Then again, the story about Kevin Smith and the producers butting heads was hilarious, especially when it came to the things they wanted in the movie.

I too could be biased. We used to play Superfriends at recess when I was four, and I was always Superman, running around the jungle gym with my arms out flying. I have a soft spot for Kal El. I swear, though, the first action sequence, I was actually tearing up. I didn't cry for Old Yeller or any of that stuff.

Unless something has changed, Joss of Buffy Fame is in charge of the movie, but LL wanted to audition for the role . . . hopefully this will go the way of Nick Cage playing Superman. I trust Whedan with a project like this, but you never can tell what weird things producers will demand . . .
Personally, Linda Carter will always be my first love . . .
