It's kinda sad that there's no PFS in Adelaide. I'd like to remedy that myself, but I don't think I'm really the guy for the job. Surely there's someone at the CBD game shop (I think it's called "Justice" or something now?) that's willing to step up to the task?

Face it guys we got into the right hobby in the wrong country. What I'd give to have access to the US player base here.

Anyone tried http://roll20.net/ ?

Well I can't say there is much of a shortage in Sydney, Lisalalaloloapalooza or whatever they called it was pretty packed for four days, and we have at least one PFS Shadowlodge event on in Sydney every weekend - and some of those in multiple locations over the same weekend.

Theres enough PFS to occupy you every weekend in Sydney, and then there's all the cons I see come and go...

Not sure how much more you wanted :)

Liberty's Edge

Check out Pathfinder Online for a lot of online, Australian(ish)-timezone games, both PFS and not. I've never played with them but it seems pretty cool to me.

@Shiftybob, I think it really just takes the right person to step up to the plate! I'm trying to get some games started in my city (Newcastle, NSW) but it's hard to fit in amongst everything else in life and to make sure it sticks. Alistair Rigg of Sydney PFS has been really helpful though, although for Adelaide I'd probably think about asking Steven White (I believe his name is?) from Melbourne - simply because he's closer.

By the way, Roll20 is awesome. I'm in a regular game on there myself with a bunch of guys that are from Melbourne and one from Perth. :)

Oh there's plenty of PFS action around but it's not the same as playing in a regular campaign. To me it feels like the difference between watching a show with an ongoing storyline like Game of Thrones and watching an episodic show like Law & Order.

I'm sure to get my gaming fix with the Shadowlodge but it's not the same as having a regular group and campaign.

I don't get why pathfinder society is more popular than regular pathfinder games now. Is it because the pre-made scenarios make it really easy to run?

I figured "old school" DMs and players wouldn't like all the rules and restrictions of PFS.

What I found was that rocking up at the Shadowlodge meant we ended up meeting some great people, and our normal group pretty much doubled in size - we now game a lot more often as a result.

Our games tend to now run on Sundays, as some of the guys play PFS at the Shadowlodge on the Sat.

Here's hoping the same happens for you :)

Yeah, Justice Comics. Used to be GameQuest, I think? I've considered running a game there, but between that and my Legacy of Fire game, I'd get too burned out too quickly. I only have so much energy!

Took a look, but they only have one active campaign now and it's not accepting new players.

Yeah. I don't really get it either. I can see why all those restrictions are there, but it's just not really my idea of fun. The rules are, after all, a means to an end. Which is why I think I would be a terrible PFS GM. Haha.

Still, it would be nice to have the option to give it a try. And part of me is riddled with a kind of small-town-patriotism that insists that we're big enough to play with the big boys.

That's the one.

I ran a Ravenloft game there for a little while. I had a couple of bad experiences with some mouthbreathers there once or twice, but aside from that inevitability, it's a pretty good place to run a game.

They are easy to run, but so was 'B2, Keep on the Borderlands' back in 1979 (Although I didn't get a go at it til 1982 I admit).

What they are is cheap, relatively consistent in size and duration, usually quite fun, set at a decent level of difficulty (though YMMV depending on the players and their optimisation) and the idea that I can take my character is now PORTABLE is excellent. Rather than have my character tied to one group and one GM, I can also play with another group from time to time, or if my current group goes on hiatus I can still continue.

How many great characters have you had over the years that vanished because the GM had to move, decided to stop etc?

It's also cleaner from an admin standpoint in that there are no more loot arguments, each player gets his/her own sheet, balance is generally retained, and no one player (GM's 'significant other') gets special treatment, or a unicorn, or a pegasus, or +5 Full Plate.

That said, PFS can actually be 'regular' Pathfinder - between the Scenarios and Modules you can certainly entertain both 'short sharp shocks' or protracted sessions via the modules (especially the linked ones) and now there's even AP's.

I'm about as old skool as they come, and frankly all I can say is that the reverse is true.

I've played both Pathfinder and Pokemon tabletop there. It seems like a pretty friendly place.

I had no idea that PFS included Adventure Paths now. That's great! I've been considering getting around to running Rise of The Runelords for a while, maybe I could do it as a PFS game. Can I still run a Society game even though there's no captains in my area, and without actually having to become one myself?

Absolutely Shiftybob. Just download the chronicle sheets and give them to your players after they complete each book.

Speaking of which, we might be a player short for our Skull and Shackles campaign. Do any Adelaidians want to get on board? We only just started our first game today. PM me if you're interested.

If anyone here is interested in trying out a online game, there's a level 3 campaign starting soon on roll20, friday 6 pm GMT+10.

PM me if you want the link.

Just checking on any interest for an ongoing Pathfinder home campaign in the Blue Mountains, NSW?

PFS is fine, but I prefer some RP with my RPG.....

Nothing concrete at this stage, just gauging interest

Not much RPG anything in Adelaide?

If there are still people interested in playing in a regular campaign inner west Sydney, I'm looking for 2 more players.
Gamestyle:
-rules are a tool to promote roleplaying, not a bible
-chill, play, have a drink (red wine for me)
-get kicked out by my wife when it gets late

It's all about playstyle. I resepct players who like playing more of a boardgame or dont like playing with music because it messes with their concentration on finer rule points. I also respect PFS style. For me though, roleplaying is 50% character and 50% the person behind the character. Having disposable player groups is just not my thing. For me characters are linked the way the people behind them are and getting to know a group of people is a great part of roleplaying. Making everything exportable, equitable, perfectly balanced, manageable...sounds too much like a Blizzard (World of Warcraft) representative. On the other side if it allows more people to get back into RP games (and I think it may have acheived this) then PFS is a beautiful achievement. Again, this is my opinion and my playstyle.

Well hey, if you went and tried it and it wasn't your go then fair enough :)

Good spot to vet potential future homegame players though!

Definitely is.

Hey guys!

I've read through a fair few threads, but looking to see if anyone knows of people recently looking to get a group together in Perth, or if anyone can point me in the direction to be looking?

Thanks :)

I am in Merrylands and the idea of your spouse drawing the line is a relief (my wife used to do the same when she wanted me to always play at home but now she finds it easier to just let me go elsewhere to game). I do tend to like the lower levels but am open to an AP or something else.

I do have a family and some weird work commitements so I am not 100% regular for each week.

What suburb are you in? How often do you game and what day?

Yep and to meet new friends who share your hobby.

I compare PFS to a McGame. Like McDonalds its relatively standard and easy to consume and fills the hole, but without the nice solid feeling of a home cooked meal (or a good home run campaign).

Some like it. Some don't.

I like it for the portability that Shifty mentioned earlier. Family and work can get intense at times but I still like to game. If I can get to one of the many venues running PFS in Sydney then I can play for 3-4 hours and still feel like I am developing a character rather than just a throw away character.

Looking for friendly easy-going gamers in the Sydney CBD/Inner West/Eastern Suburbs/Northern Beaches area who'd be up for some gaming in Middle Earth.

I've been playing RPGs for 30 years (holy crap!) and have run numerous campaigns, including a long term Middle Earth game back when LotR came out. Now with The Hobbit and the One Ring RPG doing the rounds one of my players is superkeen to fire up a new campaign, but the rest of the crew want to stick with their current Pathfinder game.

SO... we are looking for new players! If you're a Tolkien fan and eager to game with an experienced and easy-going Tolkien Junkie GM lemme know. I already have two players but would love to run for a couple more.

Ideally we'd be playing a regular weekly sessions, 7pm-11pm. Night TBD. Don't care how old you are or how much gaming you've done, as long as you're reliable, good natured, and don't mind a bit o' Tolkien, great! Send me a PM and see what we can get going.

Bewdy!

RPG Superstar 2013 Top 32

Anyone know of any groups in Hobart? Just moved down from Melbourne where I (briefly) played with Matt Goodall after making the top 32 of RPG superstar last year.

I'd really like to find a group to join (i'd even be willing to have a go at GMing) so if anyone knows anyone....

Just adding another Perth player here.
