Subscription: Europe :(

Customer Service

Dear Paizo,

Will there be a cheaper option to get a subscription in Europe (holland) soon ? I'm getting my issues from my local store. And as a sad fact, they can sell it way cheaper than i can get a subscription. My local store sells Dragon and Dungeons for 4.50€ per issue. (4.50 EUR
Euro = 5.34778 USD)

Shouldn't it be that subscribing saves money ?
I really hope there will be an option soon for a 12/24 or 36 issue subscription.

Regards, Indi

US (12) $38.95

In places where we can ship using the special USPS periodicals rate, subscriptions save quite a bit. Unfortunately, shipping an issue internationally is more expensive. And when we're talking about a subscription, we're talking about multiplying that additional expense by 12 (or 24, or 36), so it gets spendy.

Retail distribution benefits by spreading out the increased shipping costs over a large number of copies, and, if they're working efficiently, even over multiple copies of multiple products from multiple manufacturers. In these cases, retailers can recover most of the additional costs by marking up the higher-priced products more (because nobody really notices an extra buck added to a $50 product, especially if there's a currency conversion in there too...), so they can leave the lower-cost stuff (like magazine issues, where an extra buck is a significant percentage increase) as low as they think they need to keep it moving out the door.

Short of printing copies in Europe (which isn't currently justified by the numbers at either the retail sales or the subscriber sales level), I doubt that we'll be able to offer significantly better pricing for international subscriptions anytime soon. Keep supporting your retailer!

Just be happy you can get them that cheap! My local games store sells them for about 7 € per issue. At present excange rates, a subscription costs about 60 € for 12 issues (at the price given above), and buying them at my retailer would cost me 84 € in comparison. I rather spend the difference on game books (like the Red Hand of Doom adventure I bought saturday :-)) Unless the excange rate changes dramatically, I will subscribe.

I just resubscribed, this time through Paizo instead of my local subscription provider.

I didn't do the math though.

Let's see, 61.95 USD = 35.83 GBP today.

So that's £2.98 a copy. Cool that's much less than off the shelf at £5.99 or whatever it is Orc's Nest charge.

Now just checked the local subscription providor here in the UK and they are charging £40 for a year. So was a good decision. And I get to have subscriber as a forum title to boot.

Indi, I live in Holland too, but can't get dungeon or dragon nearly that cheap. I pay more like Euro 7.50 per issue. Where's your hobby store located?

Paizo has no problem with it, assuming the store doesn't mind.
