Balakarde = Bucknard? Hmmm...

(edit) I'm also thinking that Tenser may really want to start anew. He loathes the almost militant neutrality of the Council of Eight, further explaining his sudden willingness to embrace the heroes sent from his prodigal apprentice when he sees exactly what the still reeling world of Greyhawk is up against.

I don't know if he and Allustan are on friendly terms at this point (lots of reading still to do...), but a nice touch, to highlight his return from retirement, and willingness to make amends, would be to have him submit his next move in the Dragonchess game, that Allustan has been waiting for all these years...

In my campaign Manzorian is actually one of the PC wizards from my previous campaigns.

I did much the same thing, replacing Manzorian with an old (2nd edition) PC wizard who had survived both the quest for the Rod of Seven Parts (dovetailing nicely with the Whispering Cairn stuff) and the Return to the Tomb of Horrors (neatly explaining how he knew where to find the sphere of annihilation).

But, I was wondering: If Tenser is Manzorian, then are any of the other NPCs representative of Greyhawk famous people from ages past? I was especially wondering about Cymria and Eligos?

I believe that the only names we had to change (per WotC's instructions) were Tenser, Bucknard, and the city of Greyhawk. Therefore, "Manzorian," "Balakarde," and the "Free City" were put in. Strangely, they had no problems with us using names like Dragotha or Kyuss. <shrug>

Cymria was a pregen & henchelf of Tenser's in Vecna Lives.

Eligos I believe is an AoW original.

Diamond Lake governor-mayor Lanod Neff appears in Doomgrinder.

Auric, Khellek, & Tirra made their debut in a few 1980s D&D comic strip adds in Dragon, though they weren't originally Greyhawk characters.

Balakarde is an alias of Bucknard, a former member of the Circle of Eight.

Dragotha was first mentioned in White Plume Mountain.

Kyuss was first mentioned in the 1st edition Fiend Folio, but was not retconned into Greyhawk until 2nd edition (Iuz the Evil by Carl Sargent, IIRC).

Prince Zeech was first mentioned as the ruler of Redhand by Gary Gygax in a 1980s column in Dragon.

Iuz, mentioned in "The Prince of Redhand," is a mainstay from the earlist days of the published campaign.

Lord Henway (mentioned as being a sponsor of an NPC visiting Diamond Lake in Dungeon #124) was introduced in the City of Greyhawk boxed set (1989).

Agath of Thrunch first appeared in Isle of the Ape.

Many of the high priests of Greyhawk mentioned in the "Wormfood" article supporting HoHR & CB are mentioned in the CoG box, From the Ashes, and/or The Adventure Begins.

That's all I can think of offhand. There may be more.

Where's Mordenkainen's home?

Somewhere high in the Yatils, the shadowy patron of the Circle of Eight keeps his sanctum.

The Fortress of Unknown Depths is Tenser's home. BTW, the "Return of the Eight" outlines the fortress and the town of Magepoint in considerable detail; maps, floor plans, NPCs, traps, etc. Even if you don't run the mod it's a handy resource for AOW.

Now that wizard took down the pdfs >.<, and I missed the window to get this module >.<, is there any other place where I can get the maps for magepoint and/or the fortress?

Legally?

You might find the module on e-bay. Don't know what WotC's decision has done to auction prices there, but if you want it bad enough, it's probably there.

Thanks for the answer. I Gm online, so pdfs are the best way for me, but I think I'll have to get it on ebay and clean the good old scanner :(
