RPGA Dungeon Support?

Dungeon Magazine General Discussion

I was under the impression that the RPGA was still supporting Dungeons. At least, that's what the 122 Dungeon is advertised.

However, at this time they only have adventures through Dungeon 120 listed and it's going to expire next week. 121 and 122 or missing and the RPGA is completely silent on this issue.

Has the RPGA stopped allowing Dungeon adventures to be run under their program?

Bumping this one from almost a year ago. Went to set up an RPGA sanctioning for a current Dungeon mod, and it's not on the RPGA list... Any news on this? They seem to only have stuff from issue 130 in the system now...

...and now there aren't *any* Dungeon adventures in the RPGA event-setup menu... I emailed the RPGA but did not hear back. Can anybody at Paizo lend a hand here?

I'm not sure how things are run over at the RPGA to tell the truth, but I can tell you that I just sent over the codes for the last several issues of the magazine to them, at their request, so I assume SOMETHING is afoot over there...

Thank for the update James - I hope they get their RPGA material updated soon. I'm been running AoW and now cannot include them in my RPGA DM points!!! :(

I have just tried (again) to log my AoW campaign games and see no Dungeon modules listed under the RPGA list.

I managed to record up to D130 and note that D131 mods will be retired from the RPGA system at the end of this month (31 March) so need to get them done asap, plus the records for D132-3.

I also note that someone else has already tried to inform the RPGA about this seemingly to no avail.

Have Paizo had any feedback from the RPGA about this? I'd appreciate someone taking time to look into this with the RPGA please, and try to get it sorted.

For information I am trying to raise a 'Home' game 10 days into the future. I know sometimes certain games have parameters that they can only be raised in a particular fashion or remain invisible. However, every other Dungeon mod has been ordered successfully using this ordering format.

Many thanks,

Jason

I have always been confused by the RPGA. I have heard so many conflicting opinions of whether or not it is the best or worst thing ever for gaming.

It'd be great if someone could give a neutral description of everything they have to offer, costs, benefits and drawbacks.

Perhaps I should just go and look up their website...

I've been involved in the Living Greyhawk campaign since 2000 a player, module author and judge ie DM. I've played the other RPGA campaigns too, Living Death, the old Virtual Seattle Shadowrun campaign,Living Arcanis, and Living Kalamar. But mostly I play Living Gryhawk. I don't tend to play Mark of Heros since its not a "Living" campaign. A living campaign is one where the players actions affect the plotline of the story. In Living Greyhawk in the Geoff region ie DC/MD/VA. The players helped liberate the country from the giants. In Mark of Heros, the players actions have no affect on the story.

In RPGA campaigns players earn players points for the modules they play and get reward cards that they can use in RPGA campaigns that earn extra benefits for their characters. DM's get points too and get a demo mini every 6 months or so.

The bonuses to me? I've made a lot of friends playing in the RPGA and I enjoy playing with them. I go to conventions like GenCon and meet new people and I can play my same Living Greyhawk campaign character at modules at GenCon. To me I like the fact that Living Greyhawk uses the standard rules so I know that a DM at GenCon cant include house rules at the last minute I know what I'm "buying". I like my characters and I can take them to a RPGA Greyhawk or Kalamar event say in California and play them, I move and I can play them in the area where I move.

The drawbacks? To some of my friends the RPGA is static...the rules are standardized 3.5 rules..generally and there's no extra special stuff like a +5 vorbal weapon for their pixie barbarian or unicorn cleric. Experience and Gold are tracked on sheets for Living Kalamar or Greyhawk so DM's know what level your PC is. Another drawback might be the level system modules are set for certain levels so you can't walk into GenCon with a 15th level PC with no play history. Some people call it Living Paperwork. Sometimes at conventions you play with strangers and sometimes a lot of Living Greyhawk games take place at conventions so players that can afford travel to conventions tend to have higher level PCs.

And the RPGA only supports d20 games now, so Shadowrun is a dead campaign. I've posted on the RPGA a few times on ENworld and what I've said is you should try it and see if its your style of gaming, it's not for everyone but I've enjoyed gaming with my friends in the RPGA here in Michigan.

That's kind of neutral I hope..

P.S. Jason B. get back to work on another "Mad Gods Key" :P

Regarding RPGA and the AoW (or any Dungeon adventure), you can register them officially in a home game.

1. Log on a a member
2. Request Scenarios
3. Say you are setting up a home game
4. Go in the category "official Dungeon adventures"

...and choose the one you intend to run. They grant you two points on your RPGA record, but all modules in one given Dungeon are there (i.e. not only the AoW one or just any given one).

The only drawback is that they are available only for two months. If you are too slow on the AP or do not run the adventure directly as it get published, the only solution is to register your game as "Home Campaign" (i.e. as if you were running your own adventure or just any module that is not listed elsewhere).

This is the same with the new Eberron adventure ("Voyage of the Golden Dragon"). You will be able to play it as a home game from April to August and after that it is gone. The only solution to get your points and game recognition after that is by running it as a "Home Campaign".

Note also that there is no character tracking for Dungeon adventures (IIRC) or Home Campaigns. So you won't be able to transfer your character from a Dungeon game (let's say from "Within the Circle") to an official Living XYZ game.

PS: "Home Game" and "Home Campaign" are different. The latter is simply a qualification of the adventure you are playing, while the first is where you are playing it.
