Poster size

Love all the setting posters we've gotten in Paizo magazines over the last few years.

But (there's always a "but")....the size drives me nuts.

I was going to frame my GH ones for my wall, but they're 21x30. I found some frames that are 20x30. The next standard size up appears to be 24x36.

If you do any posters in the future, can you make the sections a standard poster size, so we can buy standard sized frames? I think you've mentioned that you probably won't be doing any posters in the near future, but I decided to mention it just in case. Thanks for any consideration.

As it is now, I will have a lot of wasted space in a really big frame, or I will have to trim 1" off the poster. And it's 1" off the actual map, not the decorative border on the sides. Neither option is that appealing, but both are better (financially, that is) than custom framing.

Wow, you framed your posters? Cool! I just taped mine together with clear packing tape and then taped it onto the wall.

I did the same to my 4-part FR map and it's survived shipping 7 times. It's been folded and re-folded so much that it's got permanent creases and frays. But I think it just gives it character, and I love having it on my wall. Every time we move, we put our FR map up first. Makes the new place feel like home. :-)

Well, I haven't framed them yet. I am still agonizing over whether to buy new frames (I bought 20x30 frames) or lose 1" of the map (due to cutting or folding). The larger frame size would just look silly (because I refuse to spend the money to mat poster maps), but I really don't want to mutilate my maps to fit in the almost-perfectly-sized 20x30 frames. If only that decorative border ran along the top and bottom of the posters, instead of the side. I could chop that off without a a second thought!

I'm glad you have your priorities straight--first item out, the FR map! :)

Does the 21x30 map dimension include the overlap area left on the map so when you stich them together so they fit perfectly?

If so you might just cut from this section.

As for mine, after stiching them together, I put flat on my kitchen table then put a transparent plastic over it so when I need to work on my campain I dont have to unroll the map again and again, and with the plastic cover I can even work out my campain while having lunch :)

Can someone please explain how to put the maps together without harming them? ;(

I hadn't really looked at the overlap. I will double check this weekend (see, I still haven't framed 'em).

A key determining factor on poster sizes is is our printer's ability to fold and insert them into magazines - I'm just not sure we have the flexibility, I'm afraid.

Thanks for the info.! I would rather have the poster in a non-standard size than not have a poster at all. :)

I still haven't decided what to do with mine. Cut? Fold? Buy bigger frames? Jeez, I need to be more decisive.

I've framed the greyhawk map (the fr map is awaiting a little more money to get the same treatment). I used some 24x30 frames I found in AC Moore. Amazing how much craft stores can help with needed gaming supplies. Incidentally, the paper used as the default image in the frame makes a decent backing/matting.

One note--when you put them on the wall, measure the frame for the hanging device, not the poster. I made that mistake, and now the posters all overlap slightly. Makes for an odd iew.

If you're interested in long-term preservation, you may want to reconsider that. I'm going to guess that that paper isn't acid-free, so over time, the acids used to bleach that paper will start yellowing your maps. I strongly recommend making sure all materials that come in long-term contact with anything important to you are acid-free.

I just had a map which I picked up from Sovereign Press laminated at Kinkos for pretty cheap (the DL: Age of Mortals map for Ansalon).

I am consideing doing the same for the 4 Greyhawk maps. Has anyone tried to do this with the maps all assembled? So that it's not four laminations but one?

Happy with the results if you have?
