Anyone have a favorite spell?

So what's your favorite spell, or spell combination? I personally love Finger of Death because it's so cruel. One save and if you fail it....oh well!!

I've always been partial to the versatility of Stone Shape. I once captured the main villain in a game once by shaping the stone beneath him into the form of a hollow egg and encased the poor megalomaniac inside.

I think the most versatile spell for its level is Telekinesis, but the best spell combo for higher levels has got to be Time Stop/Forcecage/Antimagic Aura.

I was always partial to Stoneskin myself. Best protection a wizard can buy!

Combine that w/Repulsion, and you are set.

Gonna have to go with Magic Missle here.

First spell I ever casted, and I don't think I've ever had a Magic User without it.

Reliable and Scalable!

Quickened Dispel Magic is usually guaranteed a slot or two as well.

I always try to keep a slot open for quickened Dimension Door. A life saver, especially if you Contingency it to when you are grappled or something.

Sovereign Court

For some reason all my arcane spellcasters i have ever used either as a DM or player are impartial to Ray spells.

With lower level, I have to go with Scorching Ray but my overall favorite is Power Word Kill. hehehe

Rope Trick! Now that's a handy spell. Oldest and best trick in the book.

Scarab Sages

I have to go with "Bestow Curse","Enervation",and "Wrack".
Good combo, works to take down enemy spellslingers, quickly and efficiently.

Knock. Never leave home without it.

You can get a lot further in life with a smile and charm person than you can with just a smile.

Maximized and/or Empowered Ray of Enfeeblement. 'Nuff said.

When I picture in my mind the right time and place to cast the spell and scene that may follow, Exalted Fury (Book of Exalted Deeds) is worth the price!
However, never without Detect spells...

I enjoy a good quickened Evard's Black Tentacles coupled with an acid fog or incendiary cloud spell.

As a GM for some lower level parties, this is one of my my favorite tactics: The NPC's take up higher ground and cover and use a lot of ranged weapons. The wizard casts grease and the NPC's pepper the party with arrows. It's one hell of a tactic for a well co-ordinated group of NPC's. And it's a nice low-level spell.

Favorite Spell?

My 5th Level Bard is a HUGE fan of ‘Alter Self’. This spell is an awesome grab bag of abilities for a low level character. Why? Well Changing into __(a)__ gives me __(b)___!
a) Troglodyte = b) +6 Natural AC
a) Locathah = b) +3 Natural AC & Swim Speed of 60’ and the ability to use the run action while swimming
a) Lizardfolk = b) +5 Natural AC & a claw & bite attack And I can hold my breath pretty much forever!
a) Asabi = b) move 50’ & Burrow 20’
a) Siv = b) Swim 20’ & Waterwalking & resistant to cold

Plus a huge amount of skill bonuses that I can apply to different situations like the:
a) Bugbear = b) Climb +3, Hide +4, Listen +4, Move Silently +6, Spot +4…
a) Darkstalker = b) Hide +6, Listen +5, Move Silently +6, Slight of Hand +6, Spot +5, Tumble +6 and unless I’m reading the spell wrong Improved Initiative & Lightning Reflexes

I haven’t seen any other spell as versatile as this one for lower level characters. It takes a bit of time to read & list all of the possibilities, but it’s well worth it during game play!

My character has Weapon Finesse, so my choice for a spell Combo (for combat) is :
1st round : Alter Self – Troglodyte.
2nd round – Cats Grace.
3rd Round – Harmony.
4th round - Inspire Courage.
That way, by the 5th round I have achieved a +4 to Dex, +8 AC, and a +4 to hit and a + 2 damage!
With the limited amount of spells a Bard has access to, Alter Self is amazing on it’s own and really great in tandem with others.
