Sorry I haven't posted. I have been on vacation the last week. I had intended to post on Sunday, but was so busy I forgot to post before we left. There wasn't any internet access where I was, so again, I apologize.

@Skane: Bjornhilda better be Bjorn's long lost sister!

HA! HA! HA! I love it! Welcome back! Oh, and I'm back, too.

Welcome back man. Glad I took good care of Bjorn(hildr) while you were gone...

Remember to check out the Iobarian Saga OOC thread if your still interested :)

Hey all. 6 months on the pbp and 1000 posts later. Our thread needed a healthy bump to keep it falling off the edge.

Glad to see everyone's still on board. My rate of posting has slowed down with baby and work taking a good chunk of it. Its fun though, hope to see you guys hit 2nd level soon..

Any suggestions on how to improve the game? Would gladly hear about it.

Randall - posting pace has actually picked up of late, was in the doldrums for a wee while but me made it. And given your family situ think your doing a mighty fine job.

To be honest the sedate[ish] pace makes it easier to keep track of other games I'm in [and when my own pbp kicks off easier to manage lol].

As for ways to improve? Things are ticking over nicely - am missing our campfire repartee a little, but since we're closing on the sharper end of the game that's forgivable...

BigPig is a tasty challenge - something bigger for us to tackle [one tough sob vs a group combat] so again the balance is right. Would like to see some undead and possibly natural hazards to allow druids and priests to come into their own - as with Skane I've a pretty easy party role :)

With 2nd level we'll see more abilities and options come into play which should enliven things even more.

All in all - its been a great 6 months and am still loving the game, the group and the character lol.

I agree with Skane, across the board. I do not see much room for improvement at all. Bang up job, Randall, looking forawrd to more, provided we survive the Porker...will be a stiff challenge!

This game is good but the only thing that is a problem I can solve by putting a rank in linguistics at second level to understand half the banter.

Wesh bráðabirgða- góð kaup benda. Þessi er the eini skarð ÉG geta sjá í this herferð. Hvenær allir að lokum koma í kring til tal the sannur tunga , það vilja verða mikill auðveldlega til miðla.

When everyone finally comes around to speaking the true tongue, it will become much easier to communicate.

I really do not think it is necessary for all of us to go through the trouble of adapting to a translator to add to PbP flavor. Maybe you could speak common like most people?

Friend alfur. We are not most people... WE ARE NORTHMEN! ;)

Male Moon Elf Fighter (Arcane Archer of Kyonin) 3; HP: 28/28; AC:14; Initiative: +3; Passive Perception: 12; Second Wind 0/1 (SR or LR); Action Surge 0/1 (SR or L); Arcane Arrow 1/2 (SR or L)

OK - I just want to weigh in on my thoughts regarding this one last time. I am with you Skane, and I enjoy the flavor of the language that only some of the party shares, but you certainly does not have any issue interacting with others in a common tongue. I just wish Bjorn would as well - I think it would just make things more fun and realistic. As it stands now, Bjorn only speaks in the foreign tongue, yet he has no problem using the other conversations that we all have to decide upon his actions. Seems like we are just kept out of the loop regarding the development of what is a really interestig PC. I have tried numerous times to pull it out of Bjorn, but he will not budge, and suggesting that we ALL learn the language is way too presumptuous. I am glad that Wesh also wants to see it play out a little differently. That is the end of my 2 cents on this, and I will be left to proceed however Bjorn sees fit. :-)

Dieredon think Bjorn probably can speak simple Common, but prefers his mother tongue in matters of importance - he defaults as it were.

Your of course presuming that the interplay between the Northmen is actually interesting!

I think Bjorn is being played well in character - he's married now so perhaps his missus will act as herald or he'll become more chatty.

In all seriousness if it is a problem, then its an easy mechanic to remedy.

Randall what's your take?

male Human (Varisian) cleric 2

Great another miss. Anyway I have a funny line planned out for when I learn Skald.

Dark Archive

I took from Wesh's post that he wants to take a point of Linguistics at 2nd level to join in the other half of the banter. How about thoughts from Meowzebub in addition to Randall?

Male Moon Elf Fighter (Arcane Archer of Kyonin) 3; HP: 28/28; AC:14; Initiative: +3; Passive Perception: 12; Second Wind 0/1 (SR or LR); Action Surge 0/1 (SR or L); Arcane Arrow 1/2 (SR or L)

If this damn boar decides to gore me further while I am down, then my lack of Skald understanding will leave poor Wesh and the Brambleknight as the only ignorant beings alive in the group.

Wait! That's a language?

Betony just thought you growled a lot, and Skane would interpret what you meant, like 'me hungry', or 'me like woman', sort of like how Betony can tell when Thistledown is hungry, or upset, or detects something nearby.

Betony probably has the skill point to spare, but would be very bad at it.

That was my intent.

Oh well, I guess that means I am outnumbered in the event that Bjorn does not want to ease up on it's usage. If everyone is learning it, then I will have to as well...provided I survive.

Provided we all survive!

Uber pig now faces 2 Northman... hopefully Wesh can get you up in the fight [or at least to safety]

If the sleep fails [and part of me hopes it does - this could be an epic scrap]

On the language front hwat happens is we directly translate to each other [Bjorn and Skane] and reverse translate to Rianna [or non-native speakers] - which isn't always 100% accurate [but can be even funnier than the original meaning]

Dark Archive

Even if everyone in the party takes a point to learn Skald, we'll still need to use the translator so we know when someone is speaking Skald or Common(or Elvish or Druidic or...).

I'm just hoping for the day when Bjorn and Dieredon have to work together to solve a common problem that doesn't involve scythes or curve blades.

Party dynamics is interesting to say the least.

@Betony, with all that hair, she has a right to be mistaken. BTW, how's the kitty for brambleknight upgrades?

Female Gnome Cavalier 2; Knight of the Shield

DM Randall:
Between the sold gear and prisoners, fee for escort, and the bounty - the fee for the clw wand, I see I have 345 gp. I will assume pixies and grigs take 300 of that and consider Nettle to be a MW lance.

I got to be better at tracking money on line in the forum, because for some Reason HeroLab doesn't spit out your current cash.

male Human (Varisian) cleric 2

Ow this boar is tough two characters unconcious now.

Male Moon Elf Fighter (Arcane Archer of Kyonin) 3; HP: 28/28; AC:14; Initiative: +3; Passive Perception: 12; Second Wind 0/1 (SR or LR); Action Surge 0/1 (SR or L); Arcane Arrow 1/2 (SR or L)

Both stable though - get us up and fightin' Wesh!

Female Gnome Cavalier 2; Knight of the Shield

Have no fear...well you can still have a little fear....the Brambleknight is here!

Booyah!

That is still a big pig though, I probably just made it mad now.

Male Moon Elf Fighter (Arcane Archer of Kyonin) 3; HP: 28/28; AC:14; Initiative: +3; Passive Perception: 12; Second Wind 0/1 (SR or LR); Action Surge 0/1 (SR or L); Arcane Arrow 1/2 (SR or L)

Go Brambleknight! Bring the pain!

Gutted that Skane didn't last longer [bring on 2nd level and more hit points lol]

BrambleKnight HOOOOOOOOOOO! Northern Bear HOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Expect uber-chops for supper when Countless comes round.

male Human (Varisian) cleric 2

Dang I thought that might kill it. At least Dierdron has a higher bonus now.

Sczarni

I figured I would be translating and trying to convince Bjorn to start talking in common more often.

Just like a woman to marry a man and then expect him to start changing.

male Human (Varisian) cleric 2

Wow this is not looking good that we cannot hit the boar now.

You need the group's warrior lol...

male Human (Varisian) cleric 2

Thank you betony. Good think we bought that healing wand.

Change? NO. Adjust to better fit in her view. ;)

male Human (Varisian) cleric 2

Yay Randall will come back tommorow I really want to see this boar go down.

Ditto that Wesh!

male Human (Varisian) cleric 2

Will I ever roll well with channeled energy?

By my reckoning Skane is 90xp clear of the 1,300 Fast Track XP threshold for 2nd level.

Know we're all moving at slightly different paces due to Deeptown encounters etc. Would you prefer us to be levelling up together Randall or can those that are able, level up when we make camp?

Am cool either way :)

Level up after a good night's rest should do it. Reminds me of playing Oblivion. Everyone has slightly different xp accumulation during the game, so track your own accordingly.

male Human (Varisian) cleric 2

Somehow I ended up 60 xp short of second level. Skane I would double check your math.

Wesh I gained an extra bonus of XP 150 for winning the contest in Deeptown. You may have gained similar bonuses for doing stuff, but as Randall mentioned we all seem to be gaining at different speeds...

I was 90 clear so that would explain the 150 discrepency?

Randall - cool looking forward to adding a feat and some much needed HP :)

Yeah, I am at 1,240 XP also, so it looks right, Wesh.

Dieredon is leveled - and yes I did take the Linguistics so that I can finally understand what the hell Bjorn is saying...not sure if it will make me want to kill him more or less now. LOL

HP: 1d10 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 + 1 = 8

Sczarni

Not sure where I am with XP. I'll rummage through the boards later to figure it out. I don't think I got any extra so, I'm probably on board with Wesh and Bjorn.

See regards the XP dip for some of the party I'm reading that burying the bodies or at least blessing their passing might have netted some of the more good aligned PC's some bonus XP??

Randall's comment regarding if anyone would bury us might have been a tip???

Thoughts? Or am I looking into this too much lol.

Perhaps the Northmen's neutral influence is gathering too much sway lol...

Female Gnome Cavalier 2; Knight of the Shield

Betony is of the Green Faith and her response was surprisingly heartfelt. 'Let the Forest claim them'. It IS how she expects to go in the end..well sort of, but she doesn't want to talk about it.

A good deed has its rewards nei?

Skane levelled up;

Randall do we roll or take average for new HP?

Skills Ranks: Climb, Intimidate, Perception & Survival

New feat chosen:- Saving Shield:Whenever an adjacent ally is the target of an attack, you can, as an immediate action, grant that adjacent ally a +2 shield bonus to AC. You must be wielding a light shield, heavy shield, or tower shield to use this feat.

Should help us in close combat situations nei?

Randall - remember I mooted a changeup of Skane's traits from before [wanted to swap Born on the Battlefield for the Shield Bearer trait from Humans of Golarian? Can I go ahead and do this? (tis the prefect trait for Skane!)

Sheild Bearer trait:

Shield Bearer (Ulfen): You have survived many battles thanks to your skill with your shield. When performing a shield bash, you deal 1 additional point of damage. Also, once per day on your turn as a free action, you may provide one adjacent ally a +2 trait bonus to his Armor Class. This bonus lasts for 1 round, so long as you and the target remain adjacent to one another. You can only use this ability if you are using a shield. You retain your shield bonus to your armor class when using this ability.
