New Pathfinder Player Companion releases!

Not every protagonist is a hero! Author Thurston Hillman brings you all the twisted tools you need to carry out nefarious deeds in Pathfinder Player Companion: Agents of Evil.

Delve deep into discussions of what it means to undertake evil tasks, both for truly selfish characters and for those hard-eyed heroes willing to get their hands dirty in pursuit of the greater good. Explore new character options for PCs not squeamish about what patrons, gods, or other sources of power they serve, and gear up with a smorgasboard of sinister magic items, forbidden equipment, and spells that will make paladins think twice about working with you!

Adventure isn't just for goody-goodies anymore. Inside this book, you'll find:

  • New background options, story feats, and character traits to help you flesh out your villainous past. Were you the product of a hard life, or just born rotten to the core?
  • Details on who worships the evil gods of the Inner Sea, and a brief review of their nonevil cults, including the appeaser cleric archetype, who channels nefarious powers to unaligned ends.
  • New archetypes to emphasize moral compromise and sinister influences, such as the insinuator antipaladin, who serves no cause but his own glory.
  • General and specific tactics for battling the forces of good, from self-righteous paladins to holier-than-thou angels.
  • New spells, magic items, magic weapons, feats, and poisons to help give your morally compromised adventurers the edge over their foes!

Nice 'So I Married An Axe Murderer' reference >.<

This is just my two cents. I'm hardly a prude but I don't think playing evil characters is such a great thing. While individual groups can knock themselves out, I don't like that Paizo sponsors this and I definitely to not support it. Maybe it's okay for third party companies because there is a niche out there for this, I'm just disappointed that Paizo jumped on the bandwagon. I don't propose censorship or think that the game shouldn't have adult themes. I just think that the name sake company should draw a line somewhere. It won't stop me from buying future products or supporting the company. Just throwing something out there to think about.

Don't like evil characters? Don't play one. That simple.

Don't support evil supplements? Don't buy one. That simple.

Whining about a supplement defining evil? That's simple (to say the least).

I frankly think a book one evil characters is long over due. For years as a gm I was dealing with pcs that though being evil was free reign to be a$$holes. With well thought out mechanics and actual reasons a character might be classified as "evil" the other half of the alignment spectrum now becomes clearer and in my opinion equally valuable in play.

The product actually has support for making some things less evil- an archetype for neutral Clerics of evil deities, Antipaladins With a less restrictive code of conduct who can serve (now and then) any neutral outsiders, and details on the neutral worshippers of the evil deities.

There's also Champions of Corruption, which focuses on each evil alignment specifically.

Evil makes life interesting.

Removed a post. Not everybody is going to like what we do, and that's okay—it's not okay to be insulting to them because of their opinions. Keep it civil please.

This looks great to me. I'd never allow it for player's but for GM use, I'm all about this.

Reminder: A lot of what this book is about, is not just evil characters. A big focus on 'Agents of Evil' is that it touches on characters who aren't evil, but end up serving evil powers.

Just something to keep in mind :)

I get it but the whole theme behind the new adventure path is play evil characters. I appreciate it more that there is an attempt to play non evil devotees of evil gods but it serves the same master. I just have never understood the popularity of being evil in RPG's. The one campaign I ever played in for evil characters didn't make it past fifth level and my guy was chaotic neutral. Any way, Paizo puts out amazing work and my support of the company is as strong as every, I'll just pass on all of this. The next AP looks to be awesome and I can't wait for it.

Is there agents of purity and balance as products as well?

No (or at least, not yet). Those carry a naming scheme with them; you'll notice that this wasn't called Agents of Corruption.

That said, it's an interesting concept - those who ally with good or neutrality without championing it. I'm just not certain there's as much material or interest, at least in the same way.

Evil characters have been a part of D&D as long as the game has been around. As long as players are playing with some sense, and not just using it as an excuse to backstab everyone, it can add a lot of depth to the game. It's part of the game, nothing more, nothing less.

I'm far more concerned with whether the options included in the book are reasonably balanced, or if "oh that's wicked!" lets overpowered things get a pass in editing (ala "Stunning Irruption" in Champions of Corruption).

Edit: All love to the editing team - I just find such things more prevalent in evil/edgy material.

Wait - Stunning Irruption is OP!? What did I miss?

I personally OK with evil options but I would like to see more good-aligned options, just feels Paizo is throwing more support to evil by alot. 3 books on fiendish lords to 1 on celestials? I havent got it yet but i'd be alright with vil characters seeking to do good but are evil because of their methods. You know the whole the way to hell is pavednwith good intentions, like when Damien was batman in the future in one story. He made a deal with the devik to protect Gotham.
