I had the exact same reaction!
Shipping on mine said it would be $16.16.
I was like, "Are you frakking kidding me!?"
Then I cancelled the order.

$23 to ship to UK still bought it though :)

Big enough to fit the core rulebook and then some. I'm pretty sure it's going to be one big box for the mailman. I really feel sorry for that man, October is one awesome-packed month.

I wouldn't have even if I had money to burn; it just reinforces that it's okay to gouge shipping on a loyal fan base. As to the big box...it's a damn cloth bag, roll it up and put it in a 2 foot long mailer tube, that wouldn't cost $5 to ship. Or fold it four times and put it in a slip bag, again, under $5 to ship.

Matter of fact, if they reduce the shipping to $5 a bag, I'll buy six of them; one for me, and one for each of my players.

Though my comment above was a touch glib, try ordering six and see what the shipping is on the total order. If it is less than $30 dollars, you are there. I don't see them adding the same shipping for each item when they can put them all in one box.

EDIT: Just tried this. It came to about $50 for me in Canada, so would probably be $45 for you. Definitely better, but probably still not what you are looking for.

I would think folding or rolling would damage the bag.

For info as you can see I'm a subscriber the only reason I didn't combine the order with my subscription was to avoid customs fees, the bags cheap enough that the shipping cost is less than what I may get hit with for customs fees if I combine it with anything else :)

That makes sense, but the customs fees for me are low enough that I can deal with it even on big months. Either way, they will get you in the end! ;)

I'm sure it's an error, but I just attempted to buy six and the shipping was still $17...and I got a $10 discount for an order totaling $100 or more. :wtf:

$17 shipping seems an AWFUL lot for this---yeah you can try to combine orders, but I've ordered plenty of stuff from other small companies and I've never seen a charge as high as $17 for shipping a lightweight, easy to pack item like this. I've worked in shipping before (book shipping for a book store) and it is utterly impossible that postage and packing would be as high as this, unless you were shipping distantly internationally or something (I assume the OP was not).

Paizo's prohibitive shipping costs are often what keep me from ordering things from the Paizo store direct. I do the subscription so I DO try to pack orders in together when I can but if I want something right away---but if they are using a bad algorithm to calculate shipping costs that screws over customers, the option to combine orders really doesn't make that issue better.

I don't mind paying shipping--I get that this isn't Amazon and Paizo can't afford the kind of low costs a big company like that can offer. But hands down, of all the small companies/small publishers I order from, Paizo's are absolutely the highest. I think I've ordered overseas and paid less shipping for something that weighed more.

And now what I came to this to actually post about:

The Store Blog nicely describes but does not show all of the designs for the bags. There is no neat category I could quickly and easily find to look at the other designs. I finally found some in "recent" under "exclusives" but even then they are interspersed amongst other items. This does not make it quick or easy to order the one I want.

$17. Kind of steep. I'm going to check my FLGS and see if they're getting any.

After you find that list- sort by newest first- then the bags are all next to each other in the list, not quite at the top.

I posted this in the discussion thread about the bag with the Ultimate Campaign design but I'm gonna go ahead and repost it here for more exposure, sorry if that's considered spamming:

I love the idea! But I would have preferred a less flamboyant design as an option. Maybe a black bag with a silver sihedron rune, or a white bag with all the seven runes, or something like that.

Still a nice idea for people who like that flashy kind of stuff!

Except that shipment will have the added cost of the bag to it so back to probably at least adding $15 to shipping. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Each description is a clickable link to take you directly to the bag with that design.

Depends on how big your next subscription shipment is. When I add things to my subscriptions, I've never had it add more than a dollar or two to the shipping total. The more you ship together, the less each additional item costs to ship.

EDIT: Checking it out, my next subscription shipment includes the "Legends of Golarion" miniatures case, so if I order a messenger bag, it ships for free: no difference in shipping costs.

You're not entirely wrong—the shipping will adjust a little—but with the amount that is in each of my orders, one item extra doesn't increase the shipping by a heck of a lot. It would be more like an increase of $5-$10 bucks, if that. In some cases, virtually no difference if it will fit in the box I was already going to get.

I don't understand why they all have to say Pathfinder in big letters.

I don't like wearing/carrying adverts.

Why spoil top art with massive logos?

I should've looked at your subscriptions. I'm currently only subscribing to the AP and buying one extra older AP volume to fill in the collection. Two mags come in a tight little cardboard sleeve so adding a box is a bigger deal.

That said I am still tempted be the goblin bag, just not $35 tempted.

Edit: my typo made me giggle.

What I'd love to see (and may have missed?) are the specs on the bag itself. What size is it? What dimentions? Can we get an internal view? Just general specs would be great!

Agh, failed my Will save!

Heh, I added two to my subscription shipment for Christmas gifts. (Cost less than a dollar in extra shipping for the second bag). :)

$13 shipping for northern California. I went for it.

I just checked out the UPS shipping costs on their own website www.ups.com. Looks like all grumpy feelings should be directed towards the UPS directly. Cross-country shipping on a 2lb object, 5 day ground rate, was still $15.

Any idea how durable the straps are on this? I have a real problem with straps on messenger bags just snapping right off, which is a bit disheartening. Some idea of how much weight it will reliably hold would be nice. If it'll carry everything I need to game days and not break, it will be well worth the $40 shipping takes it to...

To Tennessee, shipping for this would be $21.95. Redonkulus. I cancelled my order.

That is the most expensive possible way to ship it. If you do any volume of shipping the rate you would pay UPS would be less then that.

Called to confirm shipping price, and was informed that the cost is directly related to needing to ship in a large box to protect the artwork on the bag. This means they're afraid the bag will be damaged in transit, which means they're REALLY saying these bags aren't durable enough to withstand the normal use we all would put them through. I'm not going to buy a decorative bag which cannot be used for its intended purpose. DO NOT BUY.

These posts are a great example of why I love the Pathfinders crowd. It starts out with a mild bit of snark (justified, in my opinion) about shipping costs and then people proceed to suggest PRACTICAL alternatives, or seek out real information to post by way of explanation. Anywhere else on the web this would have started with a little snark and devolved into vitriol with people attacking one another for having differing, and ever more extreme, opinions just to be heard amidst the bombasts. It may sound corny, or Pollyanna, but you all make up an oasis of civility on the web where even debate and disagreement is worth reading as people support their ideas with research and others sometimes even change their minds. Where else does this happen?!

Lantern Lodge Customer Service Dire Care Bear Manager

To be clear, what we are concerned about is folding and bending of the front panel of artwork over on itself while in transit as this is not typical usage for messenger bags. Since it would be in transit that way for several days (and sometimes over a month for some international shipments) we are concerned the art would end up creased. Its a bigger and more awkward item than we typically deal with, and while we continually investigate our shipping methods, we do want to be sure that products arrive consistently in good condition.

I've been using my bag for groceries since PaizoCon, and it's holding up just fine.

I'd been waffling on the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game subscription. But after several more plays, I had to sign up (BEST product from Paizo yet).

At the same time, I bought a bag and put it in the sidecart. As others indicated above, shipping looked to be about $2. So, that worked out for me.

After discussing this with the warehouse and operations staff, we've hopefully come up with a solution for the shipping which should result in lower costs. We're going to go ahead and ship them gently folded in a smaller box. I'll be recalculating the shipping on pending orders and if the shipping price is lower, partially refunding the shipping for customers who have already been charged. There are a number of these orders and so it may take me a while to get through them all. In some cases, shipping may not change.

Thanks for your patience with this new product!

After looking through the first set of orders, the smaller box is mainly lowering international orders. Domestic order going UPS ground are either not changing or changing by less than $3.00 (I'm still updating those orders where needed, but just an FYI that most UPS ground orders will not see a price change).

I wasn't going to get one of these when the UK postage was more than the bag itself, but after seeing the revised prices I've done a U-turn and just ordered it (and with subscriber discount it's a *really* nice price!) Thank you for looking into the alternative shipping arrangements! :)

International standard shipping is what is most affected by this change. Some of the orders have gone down by as much as $20. Most in the $5-$10 range.

I'll look forward to seeing what happens.

If I was already processed I'll not be compaining - I made my decision based on what the price was, and $40 in total is, like, €25. That's cheap over here!

Heh, now I'm beginning to wish I'd ordered mine when shipping was more expensive, so I could be getting a reduction today and see I have some extra money to spend...

(That makes sense somewhere in the depths of my mind, at least)

Sheesh, it's cheaper to ship overseas than domestically now. Cheapest option to ship to Texas is $12.26.
