A Pathfinder Society Quest designed for 1st- through 4th-level characters, playable in 2-3 hours.
Not everyone in Irrisen has been happy with the rule of Queen Anastasia. A group of bandits found it much easy to sate their violent tendencies during the rule of the prior queen. Now they're causing trouble both in Irrisen and in settlements on its western border. It's up to the PCs to put a stop to their banditry.
Content note: This quest shows the aftermath of torture. Before you begin, understand that player consent (including that of the Game Master) is vital to a safe and fun play experience for everyone. Respect is a long quest that has everything in it (except for subsystems) and especially a lot of combat.
Respect is hard to review. On one hand, I think some players will give it a 2 star review, because it has far too much content in it. It is a scenario basically, it took us 3 hours (in a 2 hour slot), we rushed, we bypassed 2 encounters, and we were a fast and optimized group. There were 5 potential combat encounters! There was also roleplay, lore, and investigation.
On the other hand, I really liked what the author was doing. The story was very good. The lore was interesting. The roleplaying was well done. The song underground was good. The art for the final boss was great. The experience was really good, if rushed. So I'm basing my rating on that. The author probably needs to write scenarios instead of quests.
My group didn’t find the combats challenging, which was OK because there were a lot of them.
We played at subtier 3-4 with 4th level characters.
Overall: A very flavorful quest that probably should have been a scenario. (8/10)
This was an entertaining and challenging quest for my players. I liked that the tone was more serious and deadly than the lighter tone of other recent Quests. The players especially enjoyed the suspense of the boss battle that knocked more than half the party out but resulted in an exciting win. I agree with the other commenter that this Quest risks going very long. We had three combats, taking the full three hours. If we'd had a failed set of skill checks, it could have been five combats, which is way too much for a 2-3 hour adventure.
I love Irrisen as a setting, and the plot of this Quest is reasonably straightforward. I enjoyed playing it, but I doubt I will run it, because I know that with my pacing I will struggle to finish within three hours.
I would dread running this one in a three-hour convention slot, if the table's rolls don't go well (or if the party is so inclined) one is basically looking at a full scenario's worth of content crammed into a series two Quest.
