Crash like the waves!
Thunder like a rockslide!

Harness the overwhelming power of the most primordial forces of nature with Rage of Elements, a new 224-page rules resource for the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game focused on the fundamental building blocks of reality itself!

The elements are yours to control with the all-new kineticist class, which brings one of fantasy’s most popular hero types to Pathfinder. New elemental spells and gear provide tons of additional element-themed options for all character classes, and an extensive gazetteer provides an overview of the majestic elemental planes—including two new ones: the decaying Plane of Metal and the vast and orderly forests of the Plane of Wood. A meaty bestiary presenting scores of element-themed creatures helps to populate these alien landcapes—and liven up even the drabbest Material Plane dungeon!

The gateways to elemental power stand open wide with Pathfinder Rage of Elements!

The first PF2e book that contains a good amount of metal

5/5

Kineticist is great. While being skeptical at first, I find myself enjoying the moves away from the OGL. The new lore is fun.

5/5

First - Kineticist. My favorite child has made a triumphant return!
Second... look, If you want me to buy your book, there are worse ideas out there than a cover that's like 40% elemental t-rex. And the rest of the art is nearly as awesome as the cover! My first physical book of 2e - zero regrets

A good book but i am confused about the metal plane.

4/5

Kinéthésist oh, my gods 5/5.

Now, flavor wise the metal plane has an aspect of rust and decay, but mechanically you see nothing like this. No void damage from the Kinéthésist, no spell that gives tetanus or corrode metal (or use acid?)
You have a god rust monster and nothing rust related. I am sad.

Also i have difficulty to picture the plane.

4/5

It's pretty disappointing how many spells were removed from the Elementalist spell list for seemingly no reason.

Unfortunately there are some typos or at least weird spellings that I have found...

Kinetic Expertise seems to have a somewhat duplicated flavor text:
"Your kinetic gate grows stronger, making your elements harder to resist. The power flowing from you is even harder to resist. Your proficiency rank for your kineticist class DC increases to expert."

And Gate Attenuators have a weird structure in the first sentence:
"... making literal the elemental gates kineticists possess within their bodies."
Probably meant "making the literal elemental gates that kineticists possess" / "making the elemental gates kineticists possess within their bodies literal"?

Neither of those examples really bother me and "making literal the elemental gates..." is grammatically correct and uses a more formal writing style.

The parts that slightly annoy me (love everything so far really though) is that a few cases of the non-remake language slipped in. Most noticeable to me are the armor feats for kineticist still list requirements like 16 strength rather than +3 strength. Other places in the book don't do that, seems like it is just an editing miss.

I also HATE that there is still nested traits even though they said they were stopping that practice. First readthrough I missed that all impulses have the Concentrate trait because that is nested in with the Impulse trait.

That said, these are nitpicks from me.

Is it just me or do the images in the PDF look low res? Seems pixelated.

That happened with Starfinder's Ports of Call as well, so Paizo might have moved over to use a new system of compression or something that is ruining the art of their recent books.

“Make Literal” is correct, if a bit antiquated. It fits in a fantasy book, IMO. Think “made manifest”. In this case it helps with readability by keeping “made” and “literal” from being split up by a large clause.

Question: how come this book still has the OGL at the back and not no license whatsoever as it was stated to?

They're not going to release a book with no license. The OGL will be replaced by the ORC license. The final version of the ORC license wasn't announced until the end of last month, long after this book went to print.

I believe what firelark was talking about was when the ORC was first announced, Paizo stated they'd stop publishing under the OGL, and then publish under the ORC license once that comes out. So there would be a period of time where there'd be books published without any licensing attached.

I think, due to WoTC backing off from their attempts to change the OGL (and putting all of 2014's 5th Edition of D&D in the Creative Commons), Paizo didn't feel the need to stop publishing under the old license. It also helps that they managed to get the final version of the ORC license down as quickly as they did.

I love the artwork, as it just causes me to smile from the different thoughts that immediately run through my head. (btw so I'm not misunderstood, not a (negative)criticism of any sort. Just like both thoughts it evokes.)

PF1E brain: Yoon is about to nuke these fools, CR 26+ demigod be damned!

Hey Aaron - are you able to inquire as to why the Rage of Elements PDF has low resolution images? It looks quite pixelated, very obvious on the front cover for example.

This isn't a cheap book, I don't think it's asking for lot when asking for the stuff that's in it to actually be usable.

I do not think people would have been happier if Paizo had postponed this book until after the Core Preview pdf was lauched.

With the rules in this book being updated for the upcoming Core series, does the new barbarian elemental instinct need some alterations to play with the PHB rules right out the gate? Or is it simple enough to not really need any changes?

I think I've found a small error in the PDF. On page 2, in the table, the first entry for “Sustain a Spell” (between “Darkwood” and “Divine Ability”) is probably meant to read “Dismiss a Spell” with “Dismiss” as the new term.

With few exceptions, the upcoming rules changes don't have a lot of impact. I don't see anything in the new Instinct that isn't compatible with the current version of the Core Rulebook.

At 22.5 MBs it's the smallest of the rulebook line of PDFs. Treasure Vault is six times its filesize at 141 MB.

(Reposting via the correct account.) Hello, we are aware of the issue. It was a very large file. This is the export quality required to create a reasonable file download size. The Art team is working on a happy medium, but we don't know if that is possible at this time.

Is there a new character sheet out there somewhere for the Kineticist? I was thinking the Core Remaster Preview document would include one.

Pathfinder Lost Omens, Rulebook Subscriber

On file size: I agree that files over 50mb are hard to load on many low power or mobile devices. What I have done in the past with larger Pathfinder PDFs is to split them into chapters, this makes opening them quick and stable (I've tried downloading the file by chapter before but it's misleading as it's not by chapter at all but just split evenly by page count, which is awful).
So my preference would be:
Have one full book pdf that is about 25mb for those that just want one pdf, then for those that want quality images have the file by chapter be actually split by chapter but they can still be 10-20mb each for better quality.

Really hoping you guys offer a better quality version somewhere, this intense level of compression is pretty disappointing to see.

I notice that Elemental Blasts list a range, while ranged weapon infusions (From the 1st level feat) have a ranged increment instead.

As written the upshot of this appears to be that your elemental blasts are limited to 60 feet. However if you use weapon infusions your range is significantly increased (Really increased with a 100 feet range increment).

The only disadvantage is that the text from weapon infusion implies that you can only do bludgeoning, piercing, or slashing damage rather than your elemental damage in these circumstances.

Is this everyone else's reading of this?

The downside is it’s an infusion with a free action activation, so it doesn’t combine with the channel element free blast or things like two element infusion feat.

You can still do your normal elemental damage type.

It's a shame, care was taken to create such a beautiful book and it is let down by image quality in the PDF. When I look at it on my tablet in landscape mode, the planes diagram at the top of page 8 has clear jpg distortions.

With jpgs, it's always a compromise, you can twiddle with both the resolution and the compression value. The trick is to get it to a point where it looks good when normally viewed.

Otherwise it may just be easier to offer a low and high quality version and let customers pick which one they want. The way I would do it if I was Paizo is to produce the high quality version and then run it through a PDF compression utility to produce the low quality version. It's an extra step in the process, but to me, well worth it, especially considering the amount of effort put into creating the book.

In the end I just want to appreciate the beauty of this book. So if it comes down to a choice, then my vote goes to the high quality one.

It's already Thursday for some of us, but I guess they default to Paizo (US Pacific) time. Now it just says "unavailable" for me.

{sigh} Was hoping to read it on my trans-pacific flight today.

I'll second what others have said about the art options, though. I read my pdfs on either laptop or ipad, never a phone. I would absolutely always opt for a larger file size for better art.

At what time will the PDF be available to buy?

I've been biting at the bit to buy this PDF, but the graphics talk has me concerned. How bad is it? Are we likely to get a 'fix'?

That is weird. As a subscriber whose order has shipped, I still have the PDF for this book in my downloads. It appears that the size hasn't changed since I originally downloaded it, so my guess is that they are working on a revision that isn't ready yet. Anyway, I did not see any serious problems with the PDF that I downloaded (although I must admit that I did little more than skim it). I do hope they fix things and make the PDF generally available soon.

It's not terrible, and unless you zoom into an image you may not even immediately notice. But the images are pixelated, there's a lack of detail and crispness. It seems that they were over-compressed.
