Explore the streets and scenes of the City at the Center of the World with the City of Lost Omens Poster Map Folio. Four enormous eight-panel maps combine to create by far the largest city map ever published for Pathfinder, a wall-dominating presentation that allows players to get closer than ever before to the intrigues and dangers of Absalom, Pathfinder's most prominent metropolis.

Inspired by the Absalom: City of Lost Omens hardcover sourcebook, the City of Lost Omens Poster Map Folio presents finer detail than ever before for a city map, making it the perfect accompaniment to a campaign set in Absalom, whether it's the Agents of Edgewatch Adventure Path, Pathfinder Society Organized Play, or a game of your own creation.

A million fates await the heroes in Absalom, and perhaps just slightly fewer buildings, monuments, temples, and taverns. Chart them all in meticulous detail with these gorgeous and gigantic city poster maps!

Cool, map terrible compression

3/5

I was excited to get the PDF version. The resolution isn't bad if you don't need to print it - roughly 6300x9700 for the entire area. Of course I was hoping for higher.

The image compression on the maps is terrible though, visible blocks, chromatic aberrations, ghosted lines, etc.

Looks like someone ran it through a lossy jpg compressor at 25% or so. It's too bad.

The best city map ever published!

5/5

Give designer Adam Daigle and cartographer Matthias Rothenaicher a huge, huge round of applause!!

Now that that's out of way, go buy this map! You'll figure out where to put it later.

Seriously, this is hand's down the best RPG city map I've ever seen.

*Standing ovation!*

I was really hoping that the map folios would not be added back to this subscription. It is the main reason that I resisted subscribing to the PF1 version of this line.

Are these maps large enough to run games on?

This is currently the only such product planned for this line through at least the end of 2020; it exists only because we're doing a major product that focuses on a single geographic location: the City of Lost Omens hardcover. (Though it will of course be useful for an Agents of Edgewatch campaign, the goal here is not to present specific adventure locations from the AP, but to present Absalom in a general manner.)

Note that we are no longer doing Adventure Path map folios, apart from the Kingmaker map folio that will be released alongside the upcoming AP compilation (and that won't be part of any subscription).

It's not a minis-scale map. It's a single large-scale map of the city of Absalom, about 3-1/2 feet wide by over 5 feet tall.

So this is more kind of like "Hey guys! I got a map of Absalom!" to show off then huh Vic?

I am sad about that, I liked those. Being able to pull out a full sized City/Area map is always useful and not only for the APs.

Thank you for making this! :-)

I want more poster map folios, we didn't get one for every Land in Avistan and we definetly should get one for the Mwangi Expanse.

It is probably a good idea to make one every time a hardcover details a certain area.

I would also love to have physical maps of all the starting towns and settlements that are visited in the adventure paths to show to players.
Maybe a yearly collection with 4 to six maps would make sense?

If they are making any substantial number of map folios, I would prefer that they be in their own subscription.

Why not include these maps with the hardcover on Absalom and just up the price, like you did with the world guide?

Also what are the dimensions of each map, and are they 1 or 2 sided?

If I remember correctly (From Gencon previews), there will be a map of Abasalom in the Lost Omens Absalom Hardcover, similar to the one in the world guide. (4 panels).

This one is a huge, detailed version similar to the large map of the inner sea they put out years ago (4 4 panel sheets - 16 panels).

Either way, super stoked for this. I have always had a love for urban adventures, and Absalom in general , and this is gonna be super awesome!

Dark Archive

I wholeheartedly agree with Marco; map folios and hardcover books on the different regions of the world would be fantastic. 'Gravelands' will hopefully be next, because that's where I'm dying to run a campaign! :)

As for maps, the "handout style-ish" map on the other side of the world map was great, I hope there will be similar vague maps in other products as well, because you can just hand out those maps to players and they enhance the mood perfectly without giving away too many details! :)

Put me down for +1 on team get map folios their own subscription. I have a great love for cartography, but have not cared for the map folio line for some time. Lost Omens line has an opportunity to be something new--release the map folio albatross that weighed down the PF1 campaign setting line!

Aww, I really liked those too, especially the more artistic ones.

To be fair though, I realized too late that map folios actually sometimes included maps thatweren't with APs or Campaign Setting books :'D I thought for long time they were just collection of larger version of maps in APs(but not battle maps) so I think lot of folk probably didn't realize they were handy(like sure, maps from aps itself in larger size are also handy, but you can just show the picture from book if you play live)

But yeah, I could see use for detailed map products for different regions and cities regardless of whether they are associated with AP or not.

There any way to opt out of a single item without cancelling the subscription and starting it back up later? Maps are cool and all, but I have zero use for an overly large city map. Map of the whole island? Maybe, but not so big it's unusable at the table.

Hard pass on this.

Silver Crusade

So far that’s the easiest. Cancel for this and then when the preorder option for the next item comes up resub and specify that one.

Update: Sorry to be the bearer of bad news folks, but unfortunately Absalom: City of Lost Omens and the associated City of Lost Omens Poster Map Folio have been put on hold. We don't currently have an estimated release date, but we'll be sure to inform you as soon as we have one. Thanks for your understanding!

That's a shame. We've needed a good Absalom map for a while.

That's why I'm about to drop quite a few gold pieces on PDFs, PFS modules and other stuff.

With Paizo's biggest physical product distributor basically shutting down and brick and mortar sales possibly not even surviving this as a viable business concept, buying that book you always held off now in digital form is better than waiting for physical sales to resume. Because come Summer, dead tree books could be a distant memory...

I'm a bit confused. I thought they were gonna release an entire Golarion map with this new Lost Omens setting? Or is that still being planned?

DJGaia72 wrote:

I've only read members of Paizo saying they want to offer a world map, but they never seem to prioritize it. I imagine such a release would require a lot more worldbuilding on the unused continents. Would be a great statement for their Lost Omens lines to expand the known world a bit and eventually create a giant world map for us all to croon over... :)

I didnt hear that.

Previously they've indicated they don't want to produce detailed maps of a region until there's an accompanying setting book. Otherwise they tie their hands down the track or risk major landmarks being inconsistent across the two sources.

DJGaia72 may be thinking of the world map that was released in the P2e CRB (p. 418). At one point, word was that it was going to be reprinted in the Lost Omens World Guide, but that ended up not happening. People's expectations based on that rumor ended up being a little high, thinking it was going to be a detailed map or a poster map or something, instead of a just a map of the continents.

According to the city map in Pathfinder Chronicles: Guide to Absalom, the city has a diameter of about, say, 30,000 feet. So, a mini-scale map of Absalom would have to have a size of about 6,000 inches per side, i.e. 500 feet (or about 150 meters).

That would make for a very hefty package, and would likely not be available for $25. :D

But there is one good thing about this size of map. It will give you a better idea of building size, for doing your own "Battle Mats" of the setting. Those regular map sets never really give any real idea of the sizes of the cities, etc.

Joana, this is exactly what I was referring to. When they originally announced PF2E and talked about setting stuff, they spoke during one of the lore-based livestreams that they had intended on providing a complete planetary map of the various continents, nations, and major physical/geographical landmarks.

I'm not surprised that they didn't do it either. It's such a huge project and they don't want to wrangle themselves into a corner by providing data that they aren't even sure of yet.

I'll just have to oggle at the CRB map for now and hope lol.

For my money, the best maps in fantasy RPG gaming are those produced for the world of Harn. The best book I've seen on "what does the world look like" is Kelestia games' Kethira: Being an Atlas of the World with Explanatory Texts. Climate zones, annual precipitation, natural vegetation, ocean currents, winds, tectonics, earliest cultures, ancient civilizations, major polities on three different "modern era" dates - the latest of which is "now" for everything published for the setting, so that everyone's "p-harn" starts from the same historical base, language families, the night skies, it's all there. Also, the maps in Kethira use an Interrupted Sinusoidal Projection — somebody involved knows (or knew) quite a bit about cartography. Awesome!

Larger scale maps cover more specific parts of the world. The island of Harn is one typical region - all the regional maps are the same size, and there are a lot of them (not all of which have been published as yet). Atlas Kelestia is a project to provide maps covering a square 25 leagues (at, iirc, about 5 miles per league) on a side, so larger scale than the regional maps. A regional map would encompass some 2400 of these squares.

I would love to see Paizo take on a similar approach for Golarion, but I doubt there's much interest among the staff. Maybe some of them will look at the links here and change their minds. :-)

That's a shame. I'd love to see an updated version of the Inner Sea Map Folio.

I do think map folios work better as a sometimes food though — they're great if the AP is focused geographically in a single region and feature travel in the region heavily. They're also great for city-based APs. I don't think they're as useful for an AP where you travel from region to region though. For example, I don't think an Age of Ashes folio would have been useful (though we're only just getting started on book 3), but from what little we know of Strength of Thousands so far that seems like a good candidate to provide maps of the academy, the city of Nantambu, and the Mwangi Expanse (maybe do that as two maps that fit together, because that's a big'un).

The Exchange

Just saw this pop back up on the upcoming releases. Has the product been resurrected?

I imagine it will come out in November, alongside the book

Does this tell us where the ominous "span of land between Whisper Street and Absalom’s eastern curtain wall" lies that was referenced in AoE? ;)

Just to clarify, the Absalom hardcover is coming with a massive four-panel map of the city, yes? Then the next month, this comes along and is an even bigger, multi-piece map with different art and details?

The book comes with one 8-panel poster map of the city. The Poster Map Folio comes with four 8-panel poster maps of the city. I understand it to be the same art in higher resolution.
