As the heroes continue to explore their newfound alien world, they discover an ancient monastery deep underground. Exploring this ruin reveals intriguing glimpses at the planet's long history, but as the PCs return to the surface, they find a small Aspis Consortium-connected village established illegally in their territory. When things start going wrong in their own settlement, the PCs must establish whether it is just bad luck or deliberate sabotage on the part of these troublesome newcomers!

“Serpents in the Cradle” is a Starfinder Roleplaying Game adventure for four 3rd-level characters. This adventure continues the Horizons of the Vast Adventure Path, a six-part, bimonthly campaign in which the heroes are at the forefront of exploring and charting a newly discovered world filled with mystery. This volume also includes a look at the shady Aspis Consortium, relics of a philosophy of balance and renewal, and a selection of diverse alien creatures.

Each bimonthly full-color softcover Starfinder Adventure Path volume contains a new installment of a series of interconnected science-fantasy quests that together create a fully developed plot of sweeping scale and epic challenges. Each 64-page volume of the Starfinder Adventure Path also contains in-depth articles that detail and expand the Starfinder campaign setting and provide new rules, a host of exciting new monsters and alien races, a new planet to explore and starship to pilot, and more!

Average AP with a few errant assumptions and a lackluster final encounter

3/5

This was an okay AP, but I thought a few things brought it down -

- a massive XP dump at the beginning from non-combat encounters can mean they level up without a lot of credits/gear given to them.

- The players will deduce that something is going wrong with the Nuar long before the bomb is planted. Also the Founding Day default holiday can be months away depending on how long your players have been operating in game time -- so players can be confused why the urgency to solve the missing sugar problem.

- The final encounter is easy to be over-levelled for by events and random encounters. The Asp in particular seemed like it was underwhelming.

I probably need to keep my subscription going just for this.

The every other month is reserved for standalone adventure stuff now

The standalone adventures should be fun! Having them and APs in our mix will provide a delicious balance of adventure and mayhem to our PCs!

Well, sad I wont be getting a AP every month since I've gotten so used to it! But i'm excited for every other month being a stand alone.

Please tell me you have a Starfinder filk version of Harry Chapin's "Cats in the Cradle" for Serpents in the Cradle, Hilary. I want to hear about Little Void Blue and the Vlaka of Doom.

Will we get the updated cover soon for this yet?

Thanks

Based on some shipping delays, we have had to push our September products release back from 9/15 to 9/22, and we’ve had to slide Starfinder Adventure Path #41: Serpents in the Cradle (Horizons of the Vast 2 of 6) from August 25 to September 22. Thank you for your patronage.

Bummer Aaron, but I suspect I'll increase the hex's of interest in module 1 for a prolonged one. Then I could also give them an extra level or so as well to further add onto the length while we wait for Mod 2.

Thanks for the heads up though!!

Welp, if a GM needs to "make something up" to stall, they have never been more supported than with the Galaxy Exploration Manual.

LOL Aaron, its just a little harder as I'm not quite certain whats in store the next module in be in Native or let loose or planted on this new planet of ours :)

I'll get it done regardless me thinks

To clarify, we've all just returned from a long weekend and Customer Service, Marketing and the Webstore are working in tandem to communicate schedule changes today. Thank you for your patience and enthusiasm during these times of shifting shipping schedules.

This product has been moved to the October 2021 New Releases group. Due to the global shipping & logistics issues affecting manufacturing and delivery of our print products, estimated release dates for future products may continue to change unexpectedly. Due to the logistics issues that have been driving the delays in product release dates, there are quite a few products that are seeing their estimated release dates shift, sometimes more than once. We may not be able to leave a note in every product discussion every time a release date changes, however, customer service maintains monthly New Release threads in the customer service forum and if products are delayed, we post updates to those threads.

Hey Aaron

Slight problem as the separate map PDF is not there for either the single or Multiple File downloads as of this moment, just bought this and downloaded both.

Not a huge deal but thought you could look into it please :)

Thanks

Did anyone else get their separate map PDF in either file as of yet?

Reading it right now and love the second hex map and looks quite interesting, good job Team Starfinder!!

Hello,

To answer TRDG, I did not receive a Interactive Map PDF like I did for the Book one Planetfall. The map PDF is a fantastic tool especially with the ability to remove labels and grid so a GM can produce refence maps for themselves, VTT and Poster printed maps for live play.

I hope we will see a interactive map pdf for Book 2 and all the following books.

Also I have to say from my preliminary read and mapping out my story lines Paizo has done a great job with this AP. Love the charter development, the open exploration, story exploration and the social challenges of developing a charter.

The crew I am GMing for is so paranoid about the Charter bad events, they are expanding very slowly so and ensuring they have a balance of attributes to preventing bad events from occurring.

Great work, looking forward to more.

Question about the Pulsar Spin zenith revelation. The text describes an ability that starts at one degree of utility, then grows more powerful at 6th level, 12th level, and finally 20th level. All well and good, normally, but how would a solarian gain a zenith revelation before 9th level? (And for that matter, before 6th?)

Still no separate Map PDF for either the single or multi PDF downloads gang, any idea of a time frame please?

Thanks

Tom

Hmm

Thanks for the reply Hilary and I have now read the whole of the module!!

LOVE the personal interaction problems that give a hint of other things in the near future to hit the Admin Team.

GREAT to see some of the 25 NPC's come alive and the GM can really dig into it, and can use as a guide line for what other named NPC Colonists could/should will have with some of the good old GM improve off a couple of pertinat notes one can write up for them.

Great encounters be it at the charter base or out in the planet, PERFECT!!

LOVE the more fleshed out other charters, especially the you know who's....... :)

And if I may, something not as excited about but easily fixed the placement of some of the encounters on the hex map. They seem to be bunched up just like in mod 1 so there will be a LOT of random encounter check rolls for each empty hex. Perhaps a few more scripted things happening in all those empty hexes please?
I suck at organically building interesting encounters that are just interesting things not effecting any plotlines for the mod or the AP.

Loot again might be an issue but with more set encounters more places to drop things :)

Hope you take this in the spirit that it is given my dear, if I can call ya that please :)

Note that making new encounters up are now a lot easier as we have more solid info on the other charters to make up for this :)

Overall I would give it a solid5 stars, mod one I would give a 4 star with the same all encounters bunched up on hex map, need more specific encounters in more hex's and please for the love of Starfinder have some checks in the Hexploration, Perception and survival being key, thats what I homebrew in my games. Reconn downtime is fine as there is more added to it but still my groups were (til I added in checks to see, find, not find things out in hexes) kinda bored and not getting into the hexploration with nothing to do by the rules from GEM......

Hope this helps and I just might be the only one who feels this way so who knows, but I thought you would like to know.

Thanks for the great 2nd Module Hilary!!

Hello TRDG --

I answered your question about non-scattered encounters in the Serpents in the Cradle GM thread. Feel free though to scatter those encounters where you will! It is your game!

Hmm

PS Would a bunch of extra encounters for this AP be something that you'd be willing to purchase on Starfinder Infinite? There are only so many encounters we can fit into an Adventure Path, and I didn't want to bog down the storyline too much. But I could see making an extra for GMs to use for those who really want to dive in.

My main concern would be pacing and advancement, though. If you are using XP rather than waypoints to level your party, too many extra encounters will level them far too quickly. Still... This could be a fun product to make for Starfinder Infinite if enough GMs are interested.

Thanks for that, it really helped understanding of that issue I had!!

Waypoint all the way so YES I'd buy it in a heat beat, but I'll start a thread there on the AP forum or you can and we can chat about it, good times ahead and good thinking there!!

Tom :)

OOPS

PS, yep I probably start giving reviews for products as I have enough of them, LOL

I'm not to good of a writer but I'll try and give it a shot!!

Has anyone else noticed Serpents of the Cradle has the same ISBN as the AP #40 Planetfall?

They're both 978-1-64078-336-2

So if you think Planetfall's selling twice as well as any of the other Starfinder AP volumes, that could be why :)
