Versatile Set

4/5

This is a very versatile set, offering sea, sand, cavern, rocky shore and scraggy grass tiles. It allows you to create a large variety of environments.

The only issue I have are the cavern tiles: there are a ton of cavern entrances, but almost all of them from the grass to the cavern biome. What about desert caves? What about the other biomes? Also, it is missing cavern ends or open spaces. So you can’t really build a meaningful cavern.

All in all, one of the better sets or the series, but like all of them it’s missing some thought to make the sets more compatible with each other and making them more versatile. They end up not being as useful as they could be.

Is this correct?

I am out.
We already had a "Forest Starter set", how does a Wilderness Starter set differ from that?

Make something useful, like a Desert, Castle or Snow & Ice Starter set.

Yeah, I badly want snow...

Agreed. This set sounds very similar to the Forest line. What is different with this set that cannot already be covered by Forest?

I'll have to see what the tiles are first...

I also think they could've gone with another set first, like snow, mountains, desert or a castle/fortifications...

Update: This product has been moved to a December release.

Will the Wilderness sets cover outdoor settings other than forests? Like ice/snow, swamp, desert? Otherwise I don't see the point.

Three items.
1) This item is still listing as November, instead of December.
2) This sentence "These double-sided cavern tiles come in convenient packaging for easy storage." Should probably be updated to remove the reference to cavern tiles.
3) Any sample images coming to provide a clearer idea of what is in the set?

After seeing the pictures...I’m totally in!! Yeah

has anyone found a storage solution to organize these? Love that they come with divider tabs but I haven't found a storage box tall/wide/long enough for these sets.

Storage solutions in general would be appreciated. For these, but also Bestiary cards, Pawns etc...

I use these for the battle cards. Two of them hold both Bestiary sets as well as the GMG set; A-G in one and H-Z in the other.

I use these for the Bestiary storage. So far I have 2 and have kept them separate, but may combine them.... haven't decided yet.

Anyone see what's in this yet? Are there any other environments this supports, other than deserts and beaches? Marshes were implied by the Perils expansion, and was hoping to get some arctic tiles in there at some point.

Still no real dessert of winter set, any information?

Can someone do an unboxing and review of this set on youtube? Please send me the link to that video!

If any are still wondering, the set has:

-Beaches
-Deserts
-Marshes (lush & green, not dark & swamp-like)
-Rocky/Mountainous Areas
-Low Grasslands
-Water
-Small islands (one with a small broken ship)
-Pyramid (desert)
-Animal skeletal remains (desert)
-Hybrids (joining the various types above)

It maybe worth noting only the rocky/mountainous tiles or the hybrid ones including them had rough paths. There weren't any snowy area tiles. Despite that, it's quite a mix of environments.

That's awesome! Thanks Windstrider! I actually noticed Starfinder's upcoming Alien Planet Moonscape has an "icy moon" environment, so I was planning on using that until a dedicated arctic expansion comes out. Glad to hear this set is so versatile. That's really a lot more variety than I was expecting.

I bought this set, and found it quite useful indeed, FWIW. It's not just "more forests". You get some useful stuff here, like rocky canyons, lots of desert tiles, deserted beaches, some marshes, etc. I also bought the additional "Wilderness Perils" expansion and you can add vicious insect swarms to those marshes, landslides to the canyons/gorges, dust storms, etc. I have the forest set too, and it's little more than woodland paths. This thing is much more versatile.
