Clear Bases make this undesirable. Breakages make it a ripoff.

1/5

I've been a PFBattles subscriber from the beginning - I've got 1-3 cases of every set since inception. I dropped my subscription due to the continued inclusion of dungeon dressing then restarted it for this set (since they thankfully have moved dungeon dressing to its own line).

I got over ten broken miniatures and Wizkids "replacement" process doesn't replace the broken minis, they give you something else (once you've posted the broken ones to them at your cost). The end result being you're going to miss out on a whole bunch of scuplts and get loads of redundant minis instead.

They've made this decision across all lines to go to clear bases which I don't particularly care about except that you now can't read what the figures are. It makes it harder to identify those weird monsters you haven't encountered before, plus to check if you got everything.

If this is the way things are going to be in the future, this will be my last set which is a real low point to go out on. :(

(The sculpts and paintjobs are quite good, but given so many are going to be broken and the clear base issue, you're going to end up paying way more per mini than you expect and you won't get all the sculpts you think you're going to).

Despite the quality of some of the individual minis, this is pretty much the worst case of minis I've ever bought in twenty-something years.

Broken Minis terrible replacements

1/5

1. Clear bases are awful.
2. For the first time in years I was missing two of the set and for some reason they were uncommons!
3. I had five broken minis, 3 skavelings and 2 leng spiders. You have to pay to ship the broken minis back to WizKids and then you have no control over what you get back. I received 1 Giant Stag Beetle, 1 Fleshwarp, Ghonatine, 1 Adamantine Golem, 1 Skaveling, 1 Leng Spider as replacements. The Leng Spider I received was broken. Now I assume I'm going to have to go through the cycle of paying to ship the broken mini back to WizKids and get a random mini back.

I've been a Pathfinder Battles subcriber since the beginning, but this is making me reconsider the subscription.

Worst Experience with a PFB Case

1/5

1. The price: No per booster discount despite buying in bulk.
2. Distribution: Case didn't include a full set. Two uncommons were missing.
3. Broken Miniatures: Case included 7 broken miniatures, including ever single Skaveling.
4. Wizkids Replacements for broken minis: Not a single figure was replaced with a comparable model. It was just a random assortment of Darklands Rising miniatures, all of which I already had multiple, unbroken copies of.

Overall, a terrible experience. I'm done with PFB.

Nice painting

2/5

The painting on these is nice indeed. But much like JeremyK said, the decision on the clear bases is a huge mistake. They are not friendly at all to people with any kind of vision issues. I have not been able to read any of the bases thus far in opening my case. I am hoping I do not have the same issues with distribution and end up missing any, but I'm only partway though my case.

Mixed Feelings

2/5

I'm torn on this set. I've been a subscriber for a long time. Like TomParker said in his review: these are the most beautifully painted minis to date. I'm giving the set only 2 stars for the following reasons:

1) I bought a full case. It includes 32 packs of 4 minis. 13 of the 32 packs came with a mini with a snapped stand. TomParker mentioned there is a user friendly return process. I'll need to look into that.

2) The decision to use clear bases renders many of the minis' names/number very difficult to read.

3) While not guaranteed, this is the first time I've purchased a case and did not get a full set. It was an uncommon no less.

4) The confluence of the above issues with the significant price increase is really problematic.

Truth be told, if over 1/3 of my sets did not include a broken mini I probably would have been content. I certainly wouldnt have been motivated to write a review.

My recommendation: if you're in the wild, give the pack a gentle shake, if you hear rattling, know its one of these broken sets.

Please up your quality control moving forward. Thanks.

Seeing $640 msrp, but not the paizo listed price like the other cases. Any chance this listing isn't finalized? Will the subscriber 30% discount be applied to the $640 or to the Paizo list price?

Just chiming in to say that this is coming out in april 2021, not january 27th as listed above.

Good. That gives me more time to decide whether to cancel my subscription again. And for Paizo to update the "Paizo price" on this thing if it's going to be less than MSRP. $640 is a bit much for my wallet, even with a 30% discount.

I still haven't assimilated the deal with the big but separate (I forget what it used to be called) additional item - in this case Mengakare the gold dragon, which would be a nice piece to have, but that's listed at 90 bucks. Again, a bit steep. Also, I think I have to order this separately even if I have the Battles sub, don't I?

It occurs to me to wonder why Paizo and Wizkids don't get together and plan a battles case etc for each AP to come out in the same month as the first adventure in the AP. Or maybe they're trying (and failing) to do that. :-)

Pathfinder Pathfinder Accessories, Starfinder Adventure Path, Starfinder Roleplaying Game, Starfinder Society Subscriber; Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

Probably the same reasons pawns don't come out before the AP is complete: not all of the artwork is done at the start of an AP. Sure, they could restrict the cases to what's in the released Bestiaries, but part of the appeal of cases (to me at least) are the unique creatures from APs.

The cheapest case cost on third-party sites here in the US is listed at $419.97, and that includes free US shipping. The Paizo subscription service needs to hit below that mark in some way--and that includes a rough estimate for shipping added in--or else it will cease providing any sort of benefit for U.S. customers. (I can't speak to international savings). Unlike paper-based products such as Adventure Paths, there's no PDF available here that the company can use as an incentive to pay a little extra vs. some of the online or even certain FLGS prices.

The Lost Omens case back in July (the only 2020 Battles case release) was the last Pathfinder case release before the WizKids price hike of 2021. The case itself--with both tax and shipping accounted for--just narrowly beat the third-party price by about $10. At least, that was the situation for here in Northeast Ohio. It remains to be seen whether Paizo can continue to do that with these sets going forward.

And to be clear, this was just for the case. It's worth noting that when I tried to order the Adult Red and Black dragon set individually, the cheapest price for shipping was a whopping $20.00 to get it from Seattle to here. My Battles savings dropped the price of the actual product down to $41.99, but between tax and shipping, I would have ended up paying more for the Premium piece (by about $2.00) than had I purchased it third-party.

One wrinkle with the forthcoming cases is that WizKids has said they will all be Huge sets going forward. That means that we'll get Huge-sized miniatures in every set (likely between 4-8 Huge, depending on the set in question). Based on the size and weight of the Legendary Adventures case from fall of 2019, that means shipping could be an extra $10-$15, perhaps negating any true savings.

I'm going to be fascinated with what number Paizo settles on as the final subscriber cost for Darklands Rising and all forthcoming Battles cases. If that number (including tax and shipping) comes out to more than the lowest third-party retailer, I'm going to cancel my Battles subscription and buy it from other sites. With no savings on a PDF-style supplement or even a significantly reduced "Incentive" cost, there's literally no reason to pay extra. Especially since the Battles line doesn't count towards the Paizo Advantage number to receive free Society PDFs.

I think it went from the Case "Incentive" to a Case Premium. My understanding is that by disconnecting the tether between case and premium, WizKids feels it can better meet supply and demand for a product.

FWIW: You can pre-order Mengakare the Gold Dragon right now from a third-party online retailer at $ 67.47 USD. You can get free shipping on orders of $75 or more, so if there's another item you have your eye on, don't forget to add it to the dragon in your cart.

Paizo doesn't offer free shipping, and that could make a huge difference on this premium piece. This box is going to be huge, likely even bigger than the Chardayln Dragon that Icons put out this summer. Paizo wanted to charge me $20.00 for shipping on the Adult Red and Black Dragons set under their cheapest shipping option, and that box was much smaller and lighter than the Chardalyn Dragon. Even if Battles subscribers get their 30% discount on Mengakare, that's $62.99, or only $4.48. cheaper than the current price on the third-party site. Once you factor in the Paizo shipping cost, it's hard for me to see how it can remain cheaper for a Battles subscriber. Even on that other site, shipping for the dragon is only $5.00, and that assumes you can't find something else you want for $7.53 or more to hit the free shipping threshold.

I just checked the My Subscriptions section and it's got the Darklands Rising case for $447.78, which is 30% off the $639.68. Most notably, estimated shipping & handling is an additional $60.20. Granted, that includes Adventure Path #163. But subtracting the normal shipping for a single AP, that's still about $55.00.

Having said all that, this wouldn't be the first time the accurate price wasn't initially displayed. The normal Battles Subscriber price on a case tends to be around 54 or 55% of the MSRP. For example, the Legendary Adventures case was $279.99 (before any shipping), or 54.7197% of the original $511.68 MSRP.

54.7197% of the new 639.68 MSRP is $350.03. My guess is that the new Pathfinder Battles subscriber price for a case will be $349.99 before any shipping or tax is added. I'm sure that sounds great for some folks with low shipping rates. But add on the $55.00 to get it from Seattle to here in Northeast Ohio, and already that brings the total to $404.99. Definitely cheaper than the third-party site's $419.97 price...until tax is added into the equation. Once tax is applied, I'm probably looking at close to $429.99. Sadly, that would be $10 more to get it as a Battles subscriber than through the third-party site. And there's no extra incentive for the former, given that we no longer get our Incentive (Premium) piece for 25% of the MSRP.

I hope I'm wrong, but if we stay around the same percentages for these new case prices, there's no deal (at least for me) to be had here.

Pigraven I appreciate you crunching the numbers. And you are absolutely right. If the benefit isn't there after shipping then it just isn't there. I pick up singles with the 30% discount on the regular though so I will be putting that into consideration, but seeing as their singles stock doesn't always reflect the entire set after a while (looking at you astradaemon) I still wind up hitting up ebay for alot of singles too :P

Hope they set the Paizo Price and real discount soon so I can crunch numbers and adjust expectations because if it really is just 30% off of what the MSRP listed is then I think they may see quite the exodus. Hoping not though because if I can support Paizo directly that is what I like to do.

Marco is just going off of what Wizkids has been telling us.

Dear Paizo.

Please make up your mind.

I'm all for getting miniatures much earlier than we expected, but WizKids has been telling us April 2021 for the last couple months, and now you are claiming January 2021.

--In the past, it has been explained that many of the delays, decisions, etc. about Pathfinder miniatures are made by WizKids. Does that still ring true?

If that is true, fair enough. But you need to get together with WizKids more often, or open a direct line of daily communication with them or something. Because conflicting information a month out from when the next order spawn period starts is not a good look for this company. Especially given all the bugs and other issues the archaic subscription system/program has dealt with over the last year or two.

To put things in perspective, consider:

--We know for sure that there is a price increase with this case. But it doesn't look like anyone from the company has actually addressed that with current and potential customers. For many folks, they might not have any idea why prices have increased on these sets.

--Sure, for those folks that belong to other message boards, like Minisgallery or the like already understand this is a WizKids price hike, not instituted by Paizo. I'm all for letting the community help guide folks on certain matters, sure. But when it comes to a massive price hike from one set to the next, doesn't it make sense to have some sort of post about the changes? At the very least it should help everyone not associated with groups away from the Paizo website to understand why there has been a hike.

--As for Pathfinder Battles subscribers, we still don't know yet how this price increase has an effect on us. What's the final case cost? Will we get any further discount for the case "Premium"? Will there be anything to help offset the massive cost in shipping? I mean beyond the $10 off benefit Paizo gives that stopped being relevant on full cases long ago?

--If this set really is due in January, that means subscribers have about a month to prepare. But not only do we not know how much money we need to make sure is in our accounts, but this information (assuming it can be supplied) is coming AFTER the biggest sales period of the year. How many customers just spent hundreds of dollars already on holiday gifts for family and friends, after not planning for a $400+ punch in the wallet after months of believing the release was far off?

--If this set IS due in January, how come we've seen just a handful of renders for what is in this set? Customers have, for quite some time, emphasized how important it is to them that we know what's coming, so informed spending decisions can be made. Again, we've been told that these decisions are up to WizKids. But WizKids has been dropping hints and reveals in your competitors line well in advance for over a year now. Maybe they aren't playing nice with Paizo for some reason, but...why? They are all still WizKids products. It behooves them to create the mass hype that their other popular licensed lines have.

--If WizKids is not playing nice, or there is frustration there, find a new dance partner for creating your miniatures. If everything is good, then do better on your end to get us the necessary information.

--This isn't some random, one-off issue. Remember just about a year ago, and the problems with the Legendary Adventures set, and the shipping increases due to the bigger boxes? You folks at Paizo sprung that on us pretty much last minute (I think only once they reached your warehouse). Nobody thought to weigh the boxes beforehand? Nobody from the company purchases your competitors products and realized there would be a substantial increase in box size by including Huge miniatures?

--I know this is a miniatures thread, but clearly there are issues elsewhere. I was just charged double shipping for two subscription books, because the system decided to split my order. And sure, I'll handle that personally with the more than excellent customer service staff, but it's just another in a long line of system issues and oversight.

--You just released your much ballyhooed Beginners Box for the new addition. Overall, it's a great product. Sadly, it somehow slipped past the designers that there are ways for a character to start out with a +5. While we all know errors can happen, this is a pretty big one considering how important the math is to this particular system. Perhaps even more frustrating was the initial tepid response from the company, where the need for an errata or at least an official company response/correction page was shrugged off. Really? You fine folks do realize that your biggest battle right now is one of perception. For as great as this new system is in reality, there's a great number of people out there that still think it looks too complicated. And now the one product that could help combat that perception out in the field has a pretty glaring issue, guaranteed at the very least to ADD to further confusion over the coming years, not decrease it. What happens when some of these new players starts a "regular" campaign, expecting to rock a +5 at level 1? More confusion. As important as "my word" or "showing them in the book" can be, it would be super great to have an official page on the official website from from the official company that I could send these potentially confused folks to visit. (Note: This might already have been remedied; I haven't checked that thread since the weekend. But it's important to note that when errata or something like it was announced, the need was downplayed).

--Look, I just read in another thread where somebody posted that, despite dark times of the past, that Paizo is on the right track as far as positive management at or near the top, including better communication with different areas within the company. But are you? I just listed out multiple issues--all in different areas and levels of the company--where there continue to be problems. And whether it's tech trouble, design/proofreading trouble, or getting on the same page with other companies you're working with, it's just more of the same.

--I know it might sound like I'm bashing this company, but I'm not. I love Pathfinder. I enjoyed PF1, and PF2e has come out of nowhere to become my favorite tabletop RPG of all time. But Paizo the company has me exhausted. Outside of your customer service department, which remains perhaps the best I'ever ever dealt with, there is just confusion and malfunction that too often seems to hang over everything. Between all the misinformation, confusion, and repeated technological/system issues, it feels like you are actively saying to us, "we want you to love Paizo products, but...we want you to grind just as hard to obtain them and enjoy them as we did making them."

So please, I implore you, make up your minds. Do you want to be a company that not only makes great products, but can be transparent and informative with all the details that come with it? Do you want me to praise this new system, and actively try to bring new players in? Because I do..I've been doing it for years. But it gets really hard when there seems to be one blunder after another, and more often than not the type that could be prevented with better communication between the company and its affiliates, and the company and its fans.

I am sure that Katina just didn't get the info that the set has been moved from january to april.
Things like that happen.

However i agree that the subscribers (which i am not one of) should be notified about the release date and price in time.

Listen up folks. WizKids has not updated their site yet but Darklands Rising is now a Jan 2021 release. It started life as a Nov 2020 release which got pushed back to April for a number of reasons at WZK, then was more recently pushed up to January 2021.

We just received the packaging dimensions and weights from WZK and we will be confirming our prices shortly.

We speak with WZK regularly so this really isn’t as much of a communication issue as it might seem from the outside. It’s more that WZK run a very small and reactive company so it’s not a big deal for them to slide a release date around to better fit the business needs, which is what we are seeing here. The change is meant to provide more a chance for more product releases in 2021 in the PF Battles line and that should be good news all around.

I’m sure I didn’t answer all of everyone’s questions in the thread but I hope I answered the all important question of the release month.

Woot! Full fleshed out answers are great!

Only other question I have is on if the Paizo List is the real MSRP listed above or if it will be slashed like the other sets. Budgeting and trying to sort out how much to set aside for the actual price of the Case+Premium after subscription discount is applied.

Yes, the biggest question of this coming month has been answered. And I'll keep tuned in same Goblin-time, same Goblin-channel for details on the financial specifics.

Yoshua is right, these fleshed out answers are great; Nobody likes waiting in the dark. In my experience, the actual products Paizo puts out, licensed out or not, are good enough to sell themselves. It's just the execution of getting them out, sometimes, that seems to trip me and others up.

Also, for what it's worth: I'll take this moment to specifically call out the customer service crew. For as many issues as I have had, they've always been able to handle every single one with complete class. Whether it takes extra time or not (because of the backlog of issues), they've yet to let me down when it comes to remedying one of my issues. I can say with 100% certainty they are the reason I've maintained my subscriptions over the years.

The details on the Darklands Rising set are now finalized and so is the pricing. For those of you that aren't aware, the increase in MSRP on this set is due to the booster configuration changing from Standard Boosters to Huge Boosters. This change allows us to reintroduce Huge-sized figures to the cases, but also increases their price.

The MSRPs are listed above and subscribers will receive a 30% discount, displayed in the My Subscriptions section of each subscriber's account.

And for those new to the product line, I'll reiterate that while we hope that every case includes one of every figure, this is not a guarantee.

Thank you for posting this information.

It looks like nothing much has changed from a few days ago with the MSRP, and thus $447.78 is showing up in my cart as the Battles Subscriber price. When adding on the $60 shipping, that's more than $500.00. Even with Paizo covering $10 on shipping, that's almost $500.00.

Sadly, that's just too much for me to spend on a case of miniatures. It's available for as cheap as $420.00 elsewhere, and that includes free shipping. Even on the sites where cases run a bit higher, it's listed at $480.00, again, with free shipping. There's just no savings here, at least out to the state of Ohio.

Unfortunately, I'll be canceling my subscription. The good news is I'll still be purchasing the product elsewhere.

Again, thank you for this information.

Regardless of how folks react to the news, I do have one suggestion...

It appears the most recent case of Icons, the Fangs and Talons set, is coming with a fair number of broken pieces for many buyers (per posts on the Minisgallery .com thread of the same name). If it's happening with that frequency there, I'm sure the numbers are similar at large...

Given that WizKids makes both that line and your Battles line, and this new Darklands set has a bunch of Huge miniatures like the Fangs and Talons case, I might get a hold of the WizKids crew to ensure that your new set won't likely experience the same issues.

Higher prices for bigger miniatures and, mostly, better looking miniatures than what we've seen is one thing. But higher prices for a case full of broken miniatures (no matter how pretty) is going to turn off any casual buyer, and even long-time collectors like me.

Hm. Without the minis, my January subs will cost me $137.28. With the battles sub and the premium figure, that jumps to $661.55. That's nearly a five-fold increase. Also, the fact that I have to separately order the premium (did I have to do that before? I don't remember) is a PITA.

Given Pigraven's report about complaints of broken minis in another recent product from Wizkids, I'm even more inclined to cancel my sub. :-(

The LA had huge mini's and my case didn't have a single broken mini. Also didn't see anyone mentioning here that they had an issue with that for the Battles line. Here's hoping that continues through to this set.

I am thinking I am going to keep my sub for this round. Still trying to juggle finances to make that work. The increase on the battles case of over 100 is likely meaning I may not be able to get the premium figure with the case as that pushes it over what I think I am going to be able to convince my better half to approve.

Last time we were supposed to order the premium separately but I think there was some confusion about that, here's hoping those kinks are worked out but yea moving forward we are going to add them separately with the 30% discount but no limit to the number you can order now.

If my math is correct, your shipping is only $23.50 for your entire order? (I'm assuming you've counted the $10 off that Paizo covers). If that's the case, I'm extremely jealous!

The Adventure Path is the only other thing on my order, and the shipping is $60.20, or $50.20 with the Paizo shipping discount. That doesn't take into account the Premium piece, either.

I don't know if you have to deal with taxes, but mine will add on an additional $31.00, give or take, just for the case alone. Sadly, between the high shipping and the taxes combined, it is just too much "wasted" money for me. I can buy the Premium alone (from another retailer) for the combined shipping and tax amount on the case alone from Paizo.

To be clear, I'm still buying both the case and the premium. (Actually, I already pre-ordered them). But the Pathfinder Battles subscription no longer offers me a competitive rate. And more than anything, it just makes me sad. I've been a Battles subscriber since 2014, and I just put in my cancel notification yesterday.

I also want to say that my Fangs and Talons case had no broken bits. Despite that, there have been more reports today of cases with broken miniatures on the other forum. I had no breakage issues with the Legendary Adventures set, either, and don't recall there being widespread issues in that regard. However, with the new Darklands case featuring 1 Huge and 3 medium or smaller minis (which has been done before) or 2 Large minis and 2 medium or smaller minis (which I think is rather new), I'm apprehensive at best. I can say that while WizKids makes both lines, they aren't always equal. Historically speaking, I've had far fewer broken miniatures with the Battles products than Icons. (the only case I've passed on between the two lines is Icons: Eberron)

Hey Ed, the reason you have to add the Premium figure(s) separately is because they are completely separate from the case.

Originally there was the case and a case incentive and you could only buy the case incentive with a case. But with the last set WizKids discontinued the case incentive and started releasing Premiums instead, which are not tied to the purchase of a case.

So I add the case to my cart to check the price and get $544. Around 14% off? I thought it was a 30% discount?

Add the shipping to Aus, a whopping $117 and bam...

My case will cost be around $1000 Aus. I just can’t see myself being able to afford that. I mean that is only around $AU 7.80 per mini which is great for a huge, ok for a large and well let’s just say far less desirable for a medium or small.

Right now you are only showing 30% off the MSRP. So is there no Pazio price anymore? Or have you not determined what that price would be.

Can you please confirm the final price for Subscriptions? Right now it is showing $447.78 plus shipping. Please let me know ASAP if this is correct as I will need to cancel my subscription and do a preorder somewhere else.

Seems like in the past we have always had issued with getting the correct price so i am hopeing that is what it is now.

This happened to me when I started up my recent sub. I was told it was because I hadn't officially had my first shipment and the 30% wouldn't kick in until after the first box shipped.

Possible that is happening for Cat-thulhu? Or are you a long time subber?

Create a post in the Customer Service main Forum titled Please Cancel my Battles Subscription and put any information you want in the body. Sometimes they will do it from a post like this, but the right way is to create a new post in the forum

https://paizo.com/community/forums/paizo/customerService

Once you create it don't post to it again, as every post in your thread will bump it to the end of the line.

You can also email customer.service@paizo.com with the same subject, but I personally would create the forum post as they have been very responsive with getting cancellations done that way.

I'll go post in customer service thread to cancel like I'm supposed to, but you should know that I've been a day one battle subscriber, and have everything and have ordered nearly all of it from you directly, even when your shipping costs made it more costly. The case price being lower, then the 30% off on top of that was the thing that made it sorta close.

But the last couple sets, and changing the incentives to not be 25% cost for case purchases means it'll cost me at least 100 more to order from you. I can order the case plus dragon for $487.44 with free shipping elsewhere. And I've paid your shipping costs on cases like 20 times now. With this dragon there's no way that shipping isn't at least 80 dollars.

I love y'all, but you're screwing up.

Well, I doubt it would be cost effective for Paizo to keep their previous pricing schedule in the face of Wizkids' price increases.

Pathfinder Adventure, Adventure Path, Lost Omens, Rulebook Subscriber

A few things:

1. Changing the Incentive to a Premium was 100% a WizKids business decision. We know that for a fact because it's been confirmed by both Paizo and WizKids. I don't have a degree in business management or economics, but I assume the decision was made to give WizKids the ability to better control their production/sale ratio. If this Gold Dragon is a massive hit, selling to fans across brands (Pathfinder, D&D) and even into the bigger, more general "Dragon Collector" category, I'm sure WizKids wants to be able to sell as many as possible without tying the amount produced to the amount of cases it produces. It should also makes it easier for these pieces to see continued production and/or be available for periods of time beyond the Battles case window.

As far as I know, nothing made Paizo exempt from this new practice, and as such they don't receive any special discount on the Premium pieces which they can pass on to their subscribers.

2. As for the sale of cases, Paizo still needs to be able to make a profit. I don't think it would behoove them to sell cases if it means they take a loss, or close to it, on each case they sell. Again, I'm not a business major, so I could be way off here. But I'd imagine the Paizo store here and other stores online are all set up a bit different. The online companies where you can buy the case cheaper also sell products from other companies. From Magic cards to miniatures, you can get quite the selection of collectibles. Based on their business models, I'm sure they can afford to sell a product like the Battles case for cheaper, in return for selling more product elsewhere to make up the difference. So some of it is probably sheer volume, too. When you sell a case at a significantly lower price, you're expecting to sell more cases at lower profits. Typically these companies will get their product in, sell out, and it can be a long wait for the customer before the company gets more cases in from their supplier.

3. I do hope Paizo is able to work on a different system for the future. I've since cancelled my own Battles subscription, because paying close to or even more than a $100 extra for the same product seems absurd to me. It's not like cancelling my subscription means I'm not buying the product or supporting the company. Like some of you, I've simply opted to pay that $487.44 price for both case and dragon combined. That allows me to either save extra money for more Paizo products of different kinds (I often buy Pawns or Flip-Tiles from other sites--where the shipping doesn't kill me like it does here), or buy an extra booster brick from the set in question.

It's not all Paizo pretty, though. WizKids has been on a roll lately making great product for both Paizo AND the competition. I don't play 5e, but I've been buying up cases from the Icons line and even the premium pieces like the Huge/Gargantuan/Colossal dragons they've been putting out this last half-year. There's enough crossover that I can use most of the Icons minis in my Pathfinder 2e campaigns.

4. Going back to the Paizo price, and everything that comes with it. I was hoping they'd have reconfigured how they do their pricing for the miniatures and the Battles subscriber line. Because it appears they were nearly as surprised as we were when WizKids was like, "we can get the Darklands Rising set out months earlier than anticipated", Paizo decided to stick with their 30% off model this time around. That should give them ample time before the next set (after Darklands) to create a new pricing structure/method for their Battles line that could maybe appease more people

5. My suggestion for any such change is to consider a fixed price packages, where shipping is covered, at least here in the states. I was prepared to pay a little extra than the cheapest option elsewhere. But the other options offer me free shipping, and with Paizo I'm charged around $50 or more shipping for a case. But what if the options for Darklands Rising had been this:

Option 1: Battles Case + Premium, including free shipping = $500.00 USD
Option 2: Battles Case, including free shipping = $440.00 USD

Now sure, in Option 2 that's still $20 more than I'd pay for the cheapest available price stateside. But $20 for a case still allows me to support the company in a more direct way.

In Option 1, I'm spending more money but also receiving both the set and the Premium. It's basically $12 more than I'd pay for the cheapest price elsewhere, but again, allows me to support Paizo in a more direct fashion.

Either way, these two options are actually competitive. They aren't the absolute best, but they aren't blown out of the water by the pricing structures of other companies.

Now, I don't know how feasible this is. I know other companies can offer free shipping because they build the cost into the price. While you can find a Darklands Rising case for $420 w/free shipping, it's typically being offered at $480 with free shipping on the other popular sites. Clearly they've built the cost of shipping into their "free shipping". It's still far cheaper for me than purchasing through the Battles subscription here. That's why aiming for something in-between would at least keep things competitive.

6. I live in Ohio. I know that shipping probably costs less for others closer to the Paizo Washington warehouse or those along popular shipping routes. So it's impossible for me to take this into account for everyone. If Paizo's customer map shows more of their buyers are closer in proximity and paying far less in shipping, I'm sure my pricing model above would be worse for some folks. I suppose it's quite a balancing act. If Paizo customers are more spread out throughout the states, and many are paying shipping prices similar to the ones I do, then it's probably harder for Paizo to do this. Then again, it should still be possible; I'm sure there's a magic number somewhere.

Pathfinder Adventure, Adventure Path, Lost Omens, Rulebook Subscriber

I'd also like to stress that all pricing concepts above apply stateside. I know that International shipping is a whole different story. I really think it would behoove Paizo and WizKids to find a way to get product out to the rest of the globe a bit cheaper. Between this site and minisgallery .com alone it's clear that Paizo has fans everywhere.

I have no idea what would need to be done to make this a reality. WIzKids appears to be trying to expand their online shop options to other companies, but I don't know if that comes with cheaper prices for those places or not. I suppose at the very least this would allow customers in other countries to have access to things like the very awesome Frostclaw promo miniature. But here's hoping International fans of Paizo's will see more affordable prices in the future, too.

Hey folks,

UPDATE: Sorry for more confusion with the release date, but unfortunately we've just been notified that WizKids has experienced some shipping delays, and they have now pushed back the release date to February 3rd. We have adjusted our product page to reflect this information.

The Battles subscription will now be run separately from January's monthly subscriptions, and subscribers should receive a notification email when their orders have been generated.

Opened up half my case, Several observations:

1. Clear bases? Who's idea was that? I can't read those names, not even a little. It's been bad enough that the font on the larger names uses a hollow font, but holy cow, it'd be nice to know what I Was looking at.

2. The minis look amazing though, so far.

3. three minis broken so far, the worst I've had in a Wizkids set since probably Rise of the Runelords. Both Driders and one of the two leng Spiders. The Leng spider was in a corner box, and the web was broken off the base, the spider was broken at every attachment point from the web, and one of the spiders legs was broken off. Amazing amount of damage to a big heavy mini. The two driders broke off at the same point: the thin attachment point to the base. I'm not sure I'm going to bother fixing that without shoring up that attachment pint more, its ridiculous that all of the wait on that mini is borne by two millimeters of plastic.

Otherwise good set. Not sure if it was worth another $100, still thinking about that, but a good set.

My experience has been the same. I've gone through my entire case.

This is my 11th set and I feel like these are the best-looking Pathfinder Battles minis yet.

All the cons you mentioned are the same for me. First, Wizkids has finally managed to make the names on the Pathfinder mini bases as impossible to read as the D&D bases I've seen.

I've averaged a handful of broken minis over the years—this case had 4 by itself. Two skavelings, one drider, one Leng spider. And it's the first case I've ever received that didn't have a full set in it.

Getting so many Large and Huge size is awesome, but Wizkids has significantly increased the cost to cover that. It's no excuse for this much damage. I hope the overall sloppiness doesn't become a trend, because they really do look great.

I opened the rest of the case last night. Two extra obs:

1. I had *10* broken minis. That is by far the most of any case, and I've bought 15 or so cases over the year of WizKids/Paizo minis. Two and a half boxes of 32 boxes full of broken minis. i hope that Wizkids will honor all of my replacements, I have a lot of them this time around.

2. On top of that, of my 8 rare medium minis, 3 are bent in one shape or another. The D'ziriak is not only bent back, but it's twisted backwards halfway through the mini Thank goodness that the rares are made of a more bendy plastic, I think that mini would have been shattered if it were made of anything else.

3. The distribution is very different with these cases. I actually did not get one of the minis. Let me restate that, *I buy a whole case of minis. $475, and I didn't get one.*. I think that's a damn shame. I think I get how the distribution *should* have worked, for mediums, I got 4 rares, 1-2 uncommons (except for a single uncommon variant where I got zero), and 1 rare. For large/huge, I got 3-5 uncommons and a single rare. I like the idea, but if you are going to have uncommon variants you should make sure that there are two in every box, so you get one of each variant.
If it wasn't for the fact that it were a drow, and I have a million old WotC drow, I'd be REALLY annoyed.

So -- Has there been any announcement about when individual minis will go on sale? In the past I always got every single mini from a set in my case, but from this product thread I suspect that may be a thing of the past and most subscribers will have to decide between doing without certain minis and ordering them individually.

I just opened my case, and had a similar experience. I also had *10* broken minis, and several that had been stuffed in with the cartoon paperweights Adamantine Golems were flattened against their bases (my D'ziriak keeps bending back down to plant its face in the ground). The broken minis I had were:

• Leng Spider (4 out of 4 broken) - I really wanted at least 1 good one, but the plastic piece connecting to the base seems to be too small. 3 out of the 4 were broken off of the base, while the 4th had the base still attached to the web, but the spider thread holding the leng spider was broken. In addition, 2 to them had a leg broken off.
• Skavelings (3 out of 3 broken) - Same damage to every one: the transparent peg holding it in "flight" broke off near the body.
• Fleshwarp Drow Abomination (1 of 3 broken) - Transparent peg snapped off near the body.
• Tengu Bard (1 of 3 broken) - 1 arm was snapped off.
• Animated Dream (1 of 1 broken?) - 1 arm was loose in the box. This will probably be the easiest to repair, as it looks like it was never glued in in the first place.

I will try to glue together what I can, but I am very disappointed with the rate of breakage in this set, especially at this price point, and will be cancelling my subscription.
