Lilia draws her dagger from her belt, takes careful aim and throws.
hit: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14
damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Sadly The creatures are too close to the team and valuable stuff to use bombs or other alchenical weapons. She leaves the close combat to the martial types,as the space is limited.

You forgot your - 4 from firing into melee Lilia.

COMBAT ROUND ONE
Lilia did, indeed, forget to factor in the -4 for firing into a melee. As well as the -1 penalty for throwing a dagger two range increments away. So, her effective roll is a 9. She also forgot to tell me which doll she was targeting. I'm assuming blue dot.
Lilia's dagger flies through the air, hits a wall and bounces. It clatters to the stone floor.
I've marked where the dagger landed with a white line. Lilia may retrieve it when combat is over.
Dorian turns and runs, leaping into the air and performing a flip. He lands, twists around again and then brings his blade down to smash the red dot warrior doll to rubble.
Bastion, I assume that, since the red dot warrior doll is destroyed you would switch your attack to the blue dot warrior doll, which is also adjacent to you.
Bastion calls upon his extensive combat training and stands up straighter, his armor seemingly lighter now. He thrusts with his short sword but the tiny doll leaps out of the way... which puts the doll in just the right spot for Gil's hammer smash. His earthbreaker comes down hard, turning the warrior doll into nothing more than clay dust.
Tobias, we'll assume that you notice the fight ending and don't waste the crossbow bolt.
COMBAT ENDS
As quickly as it began, the fight against the warrior doll ends. All three warriors dolls are in pieces and nonfunction... no longer living proof that arcane magic may have existed in Krystallos before the Great Invasion.
Tobias Taviston |
Tobias grimaces.
"You could have atleast not smashed them up." as he goes over to the two destroyed by Bastion and Dorian, ignoring the dust that Gil left behind.
He sweeps up the two broken dolls into his backpack.
"If we find anymore of these keep it alive. It's important."

Lilia Aconite |
Lilia walks up to her knife, picks it up and continues to the first doll to examine it deeply.
" This might be one of the greatest discoverys in this era, we should do a examination right now, there might be elements to them that disolve soon. Would that be alright, Sir, even if it takes some time?"
taking 20 on perception(23), spellcraft (27), craft(pottery)23, craft(alchemie) 27 (to look for any similarity with Amazonite alchemie, which is pre invasion) appraise 27
JGray |
Spellcraft would take 6 minutes (20 x 3 rounds). Appraise would take 2 minutes. Craft (Alchemy) and Craft (Pottery) would take 6 minutes each(I'm guessing here, there aren't really clear guidelines on using craft to evaluate, though there should be). Perception probably around 2 minutes.
For the record, arcane magic is relatively new (it was "learned" from Tiamat's slave-armies). Alchemy (magic through chemistry, essentially), divine magic (magic from the totems as practiced by clerics, druids, paladins, etc), magical items (created by divine magic or through odd events such as legendary swords developing their own powers or spirits choosing to inhabit an item) and spell-like abilities (such as what gnomes do) have all existed for quite a while.
Bastion Augusta Raphiel |
Bastion ponders the request for the moment cursing under his breath that the little mechanization even deemed to harm him but the wound was superficial. He nods but makes himself clear " The possibility of this garnering great gain is the only reason I allow this. As of right now none of you have any other means of illumination and I have 5 torches 2 of which have been used. We will only have about Half an hour of use left for them if we do this. Private Lilia, I want you to be aware that from this point on we will no longer have the ability to afford any wasted time. Things such as this will be done AFTER we have cleared the tomb. While she does so , let us not waste the opportunity to examine the rest of these two rooms and gather what we can for recovery later. "
Lilia Aconite |
Sorry, I read

as golems being Arcane Magic being more or less common knowledge(at least for someone who knows the basics of magic)
combinded with a vague historic context (before the Plague of Madness, which was obviously before the Invasion)leading to the conclusion, that these dolls might be pre Invasion Arcane magic.
what roles would I need to make that conclusion/get that information ic?
Lilia Aconite |
:( Ignore the greates discovery of the era for now :) and use this instead
Lilia walks into the room, picking up her dager on the way, and fills some of the dust from the smashed doll.
"what makes them so important Tobias, beside their value for collectors?"
what is common knowledge about arcane magic? I don't want to make the leap to early again :)
JGray |
Arcane magic coming from the Invaders is common knowledge. Many still fear it because of that. It is the jump from that to "the dolls are arcane magic" that's the issue. Tobias made the roll to determine that is a strong possibility. Lilia hasn't yet and she doesn't know enough about magic to know if divine magic or even alchemy could be responsible, especially without checking with a roll first.
Tobias Taviston |
Well he won't be giving it away if he can help it.
Bluff: 1d20 - 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (14) - 1 + (4) = 17
Tobias shrugs his shoulders.
"I figure if we can disarm one of the little buggers someone might pay a good bit for them once we get out of here."
"Rubble isn't worth all that much after all."

Everyone's free to make a Sense Motive check against Tobias' lie if they like.
Do so at your own peril.

Sense Motive: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (18) - 1 = 17
Well Then that happened
Bastian looks to the man and the little soldier and gives him a fierce stare. " Is that... So? " His eyes narrow at the Taviston.
Tobias Taviston |
Tobias stares back at Bastion.
"Indeed."

Sense Motive: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (16) - 1 = 15
Bastion starts laughing, it slows to a grin as he points to Lilia. His face becoming dead serious.
" Unfortunately for you Private Taviston I don't have time to play your games. I already know of your family's.. tendencies, it seems like you haven't learned to be.. good at holding information. What do you know? That's why your here. "
Tobias Taviston |
I Tobias spits, "I should have read my Uncle's guide to politics more closely."
"Theyre interesting. From a writers stand point they could be the key to my book I'm working on. Potentially these two broken ones will suffice provided I can do enough work on them. But a live one would expedite the process considerably."
"I'll say no more. We're each here for our own reasons, things like that trap and these little guys are mine."
"I can assure you that if it turns out they're merely worth a bit of coin, or something you'll find interesting yourself Lilia to share them with you."

Lilia Aconite |
" I would be happy to assist you in your research, even if enchanting or History are not my speciality. "
" hmm. shouldn't you make a prelimitary examination now, magic usualy weakens considerably or even vanishes from broken creations."
" How much time have we left anway, Sir? if we have enough time I would like to prepare a Adhesive Spit Extract, its usefull for stoping or capturing things."
Tobias Taviston |
Yeah I thought it was only - 5, my bad. Not that it mattered hah, Tobias is a bad liar. FOR NOW
Tobias shakes his head at Lilia. "No I think not, you're not incorrect but I'd rather wait till we leave this place and do what research and work I can, and possibly never be able to figure these things out. Than to know for certain and not be able to prove it, that would be a fast track to madness."

Bastion Augusta Raphiel |
" We have limited time as I have said at most 30 minutes between the two torches and perhaps 2-3 more hours after if I use the rest, then I would have to use my reserves and I rather not have to do that, Private Aconite. Private Taviston if that is true then you can instead spend your time inspecting the REST of this room perhaps? "
Bastion had decided to visit the issue later.. it was not pressing but the presence of the Taviston lying was well noted. " Lets not waste anymore time. "
Gil Odalis |
"Oh. They weren't important were they?" he continues as he tries to follows Bastions orders. However, outside of building materials Gil's knowledge of valuables was rather limited.
Appraise: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (17) - 1 = 16
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
I'm just going to start making myself busy around the room. I'll check chests for traps and then open them up. I'll also try and appraise things where I can.
JGray |
There are a number of possible treasures in the room. The diorama that held the warrior dolls is too dusty and fragile to be portable but...
The weapon rack holds several items - a kopesh with gold and ivory inlays and a spear with gold inlays on the shaft, a composite shortbow and what appears to be a light shield in the shape of a large scarab. When the shield is touched it feels oddly warm to the touch.
The clay urn and four chests are sealed with wax. None seem to be trapped, as far a Gil can tell. When Gil opens the first chest, breaking the wax seal, he finds a variety of scrolls inside.
I'm not revealing the contents of the other three chests and urn yet in case anyone wants to check for traps and such. There's also a chest back in the chariot room you guys haven't opened yet.
Dorian Quartz |
"I suggest we spend a minute searching this room and opening the various chests and the urn. That won't spend too much time, and the items we find may be helpful to us as a group."
Tobias Taviston |
Perception : 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Tobias will make his way back to the chest in the other room, inspect it, and open it.

" I have a few torches and some candels in my pack aswell"
Lilia examines the rest of the items, as Tobias took the bag with the dolls with him.

Tobias indeed took his pack with him. It also probably isn't wise to go digging around in there, quite a bit more than dolls are inside it.
Noticing the trap Tobias sets to work on it.

Crit damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Tobias' Fortitude save vs the poison: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
Tobias takes 5 points of damage and now has 5 HP left. He is not poisoned, however.
Apparently, you aren't focused enough. Your attempt to disarm the trap springs it, causing it to stab into your hand. The good news is, the trap is now sprung and you no longer have to worry about it. The chest is still locked, however.
Tobias Taviston |
"%#&*%/#$!"
Tobias will reach into to his pack and pull out a potion of cure light wounds and drink it before going back to open the now untrapped chest.
These dolls are going to get me killed at this rate. Stay focused. If you die before you make it out of here they're pointless.

Make sure you roll to see how much damage you recover from the potion and adjust your inventory accordingly.
Tobias Taviston |
Yeah I did check the post above again. Will fix inventory when I get home.
Tobias holds up the potions to the torch to better examine them.
Alchemy: 1d20 + 10 + 1d6 ⇒ (10) + 10 + (2) = 22

Bastion Augusta Raphiel |
Bastion watches the group busy themselves with satisfaction. Though Tobias' yelp was unexpected the man knew he would be fine. If all else failed he could ensure they get through fine.
" Are you fine there Private Taviston? I heard the sound of steel hitting flesh. What all do you see? That includes those outside of Private Taviston. I assume there are some things of worth here? "
JGray |
Gil opened one chest. Three chests and one urn remain sealed in the diorama room. Remember, folks, no one knows anything unless you tell them out loud. :p
