"The position of emperor is a wartime role, however, so in rare periods of peace, the emperor customarily abdicates, and the Council of Despots serves as head of state for the duration of the peace. Since the end of the Gap, this has only occurred twice: immediately after the Gap ended in 0 ag, when Empress Sinkeshmali VIII stepped down because no one in the Veskarium remembered who they were at war with or why; and again in 296 ag, when the “Dreadnought Emperor” Dmarangor I abdicated his throne at the end of the Swarm War. The Council of Despots has ruled the Veskarium without an emperor since that time. In cases of deadlock on the council, the high despot of Vesk Prime—currently Vindaskayo Swarmripper (page 22)— casts the deciding vote, though the council’s current makeup makes this a rare occurrence."

"While the worlds of the Absalom Pact were forming their coalition to defend against the vesk threat in 41 ag, the Veskarium began to put its own plans in place. Because the Veskarium somehow missed Triune’s Signal that broadcast the secret of Drift travel to the galaxy, the Council of Despots became concerned that their technologies might fall behind those of the newly formed Pact Worlds. To address this perceived technological gap, Emperor Rakakama III announced the construction of a massive space platform and shipyard where new military tech, weapons, and starships would be designed to aid the war effort against the Pact Worlds. Completed in 47 ag, the station was dubbed Conqueror’s Forge in honor of Damoritosh, the vesk’s patron god of war and conquest, and placed into orbit around Vesk Prime. Conqueror’s Forge was so important to the war effort that it was given full status as a core world, with a high despot appointed to command the station."

...Thing I think I misunderstood is that I thought "Silent War" was basically a cold war rather than active war effort. But umm... Rereading this further, this implies that After Gap Emperor of Veskarium has stepped off their position only twice and since Veskarium only has emperor when they are in war and they tried to invade Pact Worlds... So wait, Silent War that continued for 200 years was active war and Veskarium had 200 years worth of emperors? O_o;

Like I do get Starfinder is scifi fantasy, but 200+ years worth of war is pretty insane on economy. And its definitely so big thing that scars of it would last long after considering its only almost 20 years since it ended, like when I imagined silent war was basically space cold war that made sense enough to me, but 200+ year long hot war sounds like something I should have noticed from previous books without starting to think implications of these two paragrapghs x'D Like I went to check pact worlds book and core rule book and they all just say "after 200 hundred years it ended in Swarm attacking both Pact Worlds and Veskarium and two joind forces together for common enemy". Am I only one who made this mistake all along?

We really need some book to detail Pact Worlds history closer so its easier to grasp what this actually means x'D I'm missing 1e campaign setting book "timeline of this country" stuff now
Hmm while rereading this book in order to finally review it(I think original reason I didn't do so is that book has overwhelming amount of nice lore so I was tired back then of thinking of mentioning them all in hopes of showing paizo what I liked x'D) and huh, noticed something I initially thought was lore error, but now I realize I might have misunderstood.

So Polar Vortex is "evocation(cold)" spell that has no spell resistance <_< I'm bit confused about whether this spell creates magical col damage or not since its not "conjuration(creation)" aka it doesn't create non magical cold through magical means. Is it error that its evocation spell that ignores spell resistance if it IS meant to be magical damage?

(on sidenote, it is amusing that its spell that has 10 dc higher for flying enemies to keep flying :D (since flying in hurricane wind is dc 33). I don't mind it though, there DO need to be some area control spells that are effective and lot of enemies fly in this game so there needs to be something you can do to limit effectiveness of fliers)
So realized this while party was fighting nanotech golem an one of them casted Polar Vortex spell from this book at it:

I'm finishing up the player option section, but in a world where I don't get my good old setting boxed sets, this is exactly the kind of book I'm looking for. In depth enough to really get a feel for the Veskarium, and some other fun fluff highlighting the diversity of Near Space followed by some good supporting options. I plan on doing my first product review even.
The Vesk seem fairly pro-Veskarium though there did seem to be a very high number of posts that soldiers can be stationed at as punishment.
In this case it is not an interesting tactical choice, the only reason I would ever seen "tactical" use for this is "we're in a non-standard adventure where our gear gets taken away from us" type deals, because those sorta deals are the only times you're not going to be able to use your normal weapons but able to maybe rarely take a "one size larger weapon". If this was the appropriate power for themes, I .... literally would just cut themes from my game because they shouldn't make your character worse to use them.

As for tighter math, that actually makes it far worse of an issue not better, because it means you're expected math is closer to a specific point rather than a broader more imprecise range.
Master Han Del of the Web wrote:Snip
