Great Box for Monsters

5/5

I am so glad to have this box, it had a lot of the monsters needed for a campaign, and it helps to have so many figures on hand for play, at a great price for what you get. Highly recommend, especially for beginners who are just starting to play / build collections.

Included quantity useless for any game

3/5

If you want to use these in your games you need to buy at least 2 of these boxes. Ever ran an encounter with only 2 wolfs or a single werewolf? Because more is not included.

Apart from that there isn't a single colossal nor gargantuan pawn included (yeah I know, price, still sucks) so you'll have to come up with something on your own.

A good start into PF2 pawns

5/5

This package has actually close to 500 pawns, so the individual piece is still really cheap. As a collector, I see new artwork pretty much everywhere. In average I find it a bit better than the artwork of the PF1 Bestiary 1. There are several outstanding pieces (such as excellent and diverse elementals for all sizes), but also a few offenders (don't get me started on the comical looking balor). Very few pieces have an unfortunate scaling, for example the lemure appears really massive, while the quasit is hard to see (yes, the creature is tiny sized, but still...).

If you want to add the pawns to a PF1 collection, the only issue might be the renaming of a few creature types. Most of it is straight-forward ("derro" to "dero"), darkfolk now being called caligni is among the biggest changes. The new artwork means you can easily treat the newcomers as special versions. Given there are actually not that many new monsters, most pawns work for PF1 campaigns, even without porting the new monsters back.

Two of the sheets had very minor material damage, but nothing that would impact the fun. I'd give 4.5 stars if I could - given Paizo's friendly pricing here, I don't mind rounding up to 5 stars. Looking forward to the Bestiary 2 box and all the other upcoming pawns!

Great Value!

5/5

Great product, and no problems with the binding material. I'm a new DM and this is the first pawn box I've purchased. Needless to say, it has been a fantastic addition to my VERY small mini collection. This gives me a great baseline of enemies. It's true that there are not enough duplicates of some things, but there are plenty of alternatives that can fill those roles.

On a side note if you're looking for an organizer for all your pawns check out the Stanley Pro 25 Removable Compartment organizer.
https://imgur.com/a/tWBcd
It's a little crazy just how perfectly everything fit. I had just enough room for all of the cutouts, but not the bases. (Trimming about 1/8 of an inch off of the huge cards was required, but worth it.)

Great but some production flaws

1/5

Picked this up at my local game store excited to pop it open and start organizing. The first few Pawns I handled had the front art just fall right off the cardboard, it was as if there was no glue or binding material of any kind to keep it together. As I punched out more of the pawns I had more and more pawns consistently fall apart leading me to super glue repair many of them. Aside from this problem (which was a major headache for me) You get ALOT of pawns in this box and is a great alternative to miniatures.

What I did not like outside of the production issues I have experienced so far is that small number of some creatures like Orcs and others. But I understand the limitations of this box.

My 1 star review is mainly due to the horrible quality I have experienced of pawns themselves, but outside of that this is a solid 4 star product in my opinion.

I know the stores in my area just got theirs in today.

Phoenix area stores got them starting yesterday.

I picked up a set (and probably would have bought a 2nd had it been available). The pawns themselves are exactly the same form factor and material as the 1E pawns, but the art appears to be all new. The box is about 1/2 inch taller than the original Bestiary Box, in order to make room for what looks like several additional sheets. The box did get come with bases, including a single colored medium base (blue).

This is a great product overall, and is impossible to beat as a less expensive alternative to miniatures. Unfortunately it repeats the biggest mistake of the 1E box: Too few pawns of common, low-level baddies (skeletons, ghouls, wolves, etc.). While I appreciate that there are cost constraints in play, in this case a single extra sheet devoted to these guys would have made the box vastly more useful for GMs just getting into pawns.

Note: There is a single otyugh, rather than four as listed in the product description.

While I don't think anyone would complain about more simple characters like skeletons, those are often the easiest and cheapest minis to purchase. 5e/Wizards has a skeleton 3-pack for like $6, for instance. Mixing the two may not be a great aesthetic though, and it is more to purchase unfortunately.

Personally I don't care for mixing minis and pawns, with the exception of using minis for PCs, as I find it helpful when PCs stand out at a glance.

In my case, I have plenty of 1E pawns to fill in for common low-level baddies. It just seems to me that this product could have been greatly improved with a minimal cost increase.

Jokes on you, heading to IOG tomorrow.

Re: “ not enough low level horde style critters” complaint, you can look to the Enemy Encounters set to fill out the ranks of that type of enemy.

Sure it’s another thing to purchase, but no one product can be everything, right?

Of course no product can be all things to all people. However, if it were my call, I think "solid basis for a new GM to run low-level encounters" (i.e. the kind new GMs are most likely to run), would be a box I made damn sure to tick with this product. YMMV.

Glad to occasionally be of service. It's the least I can do after all you guys put up with from me. ;-)

Anybody else here order this though amazon? Over a week after release date and they haven't shipped it yet. Maybe there was a delay somewhere?

Now that I think of it, this is the first time I've ordered pawns from amazon while the product has been launching. All of my previous pawn purchases have been scooping up products that have been on the market for years. Is it typical that amazon delivers over a week late on new releases?

Week? If they start shipping it within a month, you're lucky.

Really! Wow, I didn't realize amazon had such a lag time on products like this.

Well, now I know! Thanks for sharing :)

Amazon gets their Paizo stuff from a distributor and at this point, the whole process is handled on Amazon's side by AI. And AI is prioritising wellness books and John Bolton's book over gaming stuff, hence the delay.

It's best to think of Amazon as being a cheap but untimely option for Paizo products.

With Starfinder, they seemed to have the highest amount of misprints too. I can't help but wonder if products flawed in some way tend to gravitate toward Amazon, one way or another. I've gotten more "new" bent-up RPG books from them than even other used independent sellers.

Can someone verify if the duplicate pawns are numbered? Like if there's 4 goblin warriors, they will have a 1, 2, 3, or 4 printed in the top corner? Got a starfinder pawn set and am very disappointed with the lame color system they used. Not interested in buying another set of pawns with that.

Cracking open my box, I see that each pawn has a series number, and duplicates have that number colored differently for each separate copy. The first has a red background and the second a green.

Why is it that products ordered early via Amazon never seem to ship in a timely manner? I'm seeing this product out in stores and my Amazon order placed in December is apparently still waiting for a product to ship. I've seen this in other forums for other Paizo products and don't understand why there is a delay. Other products from other companies that I order in advance from Amazon arrive on or slightly before the release date.

Silver Crusade

You'd need to take that up with Amazon.

I have to say that I love this company. I got ahold of customer support and they quickly helped my situation. I'll continue to support them for as long as I am able.

Starting book 6 of Tyrant's Grasp modified to 2e for my group. We are all pumped to begin the next adventure thereafter!!!

I am still on 1e but never managed to get my hands on a bestiary 1 pawn box. Since this seems to contain about 90% of the same monsters, I was wondering if they’re available for purchase somewhere in europe... $50 for shipping is a tad much.

Order it from a local book or game shop.

If you’re in the Continental US the savings you get from ordering on Amazon does not outweigh the time you have to wait to actually get the product. I pre-ordered a book on Amazon and watched the listed release date slide a month or more down the road while people who ordered from Paizo were already getting books. I ordered said book, it shipped the next day, I had it three days after that and still had it several weeks before Amazon’s street date.

Yeah I paid shipping and didn’t save $3 off the cover price - but all of my money went to Paizo and I got my book earlier

Same here in Germany.

I pre-ordered at Fantasy-Welt and they are still waiting for their copies.
Maybe someone here knows when copies will be shipped to the european stores.

I have order paizo stuff from amazon and its always been on time But not with Bestiary Pawn box that won't ship until April 7th like what?

I have ordered Paizo stuff from Amazon and everything has been on time as well Corebook, bestiary 1, World book and Character Guide all came on time. However, the Bestiary battle cards are late, Pawn box real late, Gamemastery Guide not scheduled to ship until March 10th. OH and I have yet to receive my God's and Magic book yet from Amazon. Ugh oh well Guess I will have to continue to wait. :)

The PDF is meant to print and cut out; you'd essentially need to do the same but on the computer, though exporting images from the PDF may violate the TOS. I'd expect Roll20 and others to have purchasable Pathfinder pawn packs, already separated and named, but I have no clue if they are offered yet.

I can't imagine that you're not allowed to cut and paste out the images to make tokens for virtual table top games. That would pretty well defeat the purpose of the PDFs.

Yeah if that's the case, I've heard this app is good for that then: https://www.rptools.net/toolbox/token-tool/

I just received my physical Bestiary Pawn Box and I have to say that the print is very dark compared to the PDF. Is that the case for anyone else too?
E.g. the bear is almost entirely black aside from the head, the roper has very few details too and pretty much every dark creature loses a lot of detail compared to the PDF.

The artwork is top notch, but it would have made since to have a front side and a back side. This would help in combat by knowing where you would hit the mob.

Since there's no facing in Pathfinder, I don't think any of the pawns products have ever done back and front sides.

How can I use these in foundry? I figured I could download the PDF and upload the images but the thing has password protection so I cant even extract it to use it. What is the literal, actual point of these .pdfs if I can't use it digitally?

I was able to save the images individually from the PDF using Adobe, no password interference at all.

WPS Office won't let me, requires a password. Gonna try downloading Adobe and seeing if this will work. I was hoping to start loading these into Foundry and using them for my game and this is... actually proving to be HARDER than just saving the images from AoN.

Liberty's Edge

This might be a dumb question but I will ask it anyway. Can this be used for First Edition as well as Second Edition?

I don't see why not. After all, they're just images.

Started printing this out (PDF) and noticed that on page 3, the Alghollthu, Skum is printed backward.

This is a copy/paste from the PDF: MUKS ,UHTLLOHGLA

Does the artwork in this collection reuse the artwork from the PF1e collections?

It's all new art.

Thank you very much.

Is this still being manufactured? I'm trying to order this in to my FLGS in Canada, but they don't know when they'll be able to restock. I then found out that the pawns line is being discontinued. I've just started playing Pathfinder 2E, and it'll be disappointing if I can't get pawn sets for the books I just bought.

It's still showing as available to order on this page. That means that Paizo still has copies in the warehouse.

Whether or not your local game store can get it through their distributor is a different question.

Paizo staff have said that there are some basic pawn collections that they will keep in stock "as long as there is demand for them".

Personally, I wouldn't count on consumer demand to keep them economically viable. At this point, if I see a pawn collection that I think I'll want in the future, I grab it.

And if this goes out of stock there's always the 1e pawnsets.
