Delve into ancient secrets below the City at the Center of the World in this deluxe campaign-arc adventure for Pathfinder Second Edition! Captured and enslaved by a duergar clan somewhere in the maze of tunnels below the city of Absalom, the heroes stage a bloody revolt and battle their way into the long-lost Sanctum of Aroden, a legendary religious refuge sealed away from the world with the god's death a century ago. But some secrets are best left buried forever, and investigation into the mysterious Dead God's Hand said to be hidden at the heart of the complex—and the shrouded figure whose desire for it trigged the heroes' captivity in the first place—uncovers machinations that could threaten all of Absalom with the birth of a terrible new divinity!

Based on Pathfinder Publisher Erik Mona's multi-year, multi-group office Pathfinder campaign, The Dead God's Hand takes new players and Game Masters on a deadly adventure filled with dungeon exploration, ancient mysteries, and phantasmagoric tests that see them reliving events from the life of Aroden, the dead god of humanity whose murder triggered the beginning of the current age! This 128-page hardcover adventure is designed for 1st-level characters, and serves as an excellent starting point to future adventures set in Absalom, the City at the Center of the World!

This adventure uses several Flip-Mats from Paizo's extensive range, including the Pathfinder Flip-Mat: The Dead God's Hand Multi-Pack accessory.

Will all future adventures be hardcover or will it be a mix of softcover and hardcover?

Since 2013, our standalone adventures have mostly been 64-page softcovers, but we've occasionally dropped in a few larger ones: the Thornkeep 96-pager in 2013, the Emerald Spire Superdungeon 160-pager in 2014, the Doomsday Dawn 96-pager last year, and this 128-pager next year. (Whether it's softcover or hardcover is driven mostly by page count—128 pages is generally where it makes sense to switch to hardcovers.)

That's still pretty much the plan for the future.

I remember Erik running the introductory piece/adventure of his in-house campaign called Kings in Absalom (?) back in 2011. I was too caught up in work at Ropecon that year, so I sadly couldn't participate as a player or watch a whole session played through. I've regretted it later, but as I was supervising our participation in that convention it just couldn't be helped. It was great to meet Erik in person, though. :)

Anyway, this is pure speculation, but considering the adventure description above... I think that I might know how and where The Dead God's Hand begins...

128 pages! What level does this run to?

As much as I would love to stay subscribed to the Adventure line, the switch to hardcover (even just for the occasional one) will probably make the shipping to Europe ridiculously expensive.

I'm willing to wait and see, since it is a rather small hardcover, but I'm worried it'll be almost twice as expensive after adding the shipping cost.

I am considering letting this be the book that finally gets me to cancel this subscription.

Of course, I have been in the state of "just one more, then I cancel" for a couple of years now....

I seem to remember reading somewhere that it was level 6 or 7.

Yes, I know that. I was planning to cancel after the last PF1 module until I decided that I wanted Fall of Plaguestone. I am leaning against getting this next module, but they have until some time in January to convince me otherwise.

But I think this is the first time I am considering canceling the subscription even with full knowledge of what the next module is supposed to be. I think it may be a matter of just how much Absalom City material I want by that point.

I like the fact that there will be a map pack for these. It makes things so much easier.

Plaguestone is standard 64 and it goes to 4, so I could easily see it go up to 8 or even 9.

I feel like this being a 1st level adventure is weird. Fall of Plaguestone is a 1-4 in Isger and the first AP is in Isger. Leaving a FoP group in a weird place as to what to do when when they finish that adventure.

This feels the Same was as a 1-6? in Absolom and the 2nd ap is in Absolom.

I guess the AP and Module lines aren't meant to crossover but it leaves groups in an odd whats next kind of space. I was hoping that this would be in the 3-9ish range so I had something to run my Plaguestone group through once they finish that module.

If I were in a situation where I wanted to continue a campaign using only published materials after completing one of these standalone adventure modules, I would probably follow it up with tier 3-6 PFS modules and then tier 5-8 and so on until I ran out of material. There is nothing stopping us from running PFS adventures unofficially outside of PFS.

Of course, given that I will at best be running games once a month starting no earlier than December and plan to end the campaign soon after Gen Con (since several of my potential players are keenly interested in trying out the options that will be in the Advanced Player's Guide), I probably won't run out of material by that point.

Oh no! Not that the adventure is getting moved, but because I can't get the discount to kick in till I get a product from the Adventure line. This delay is gonna cost me an extra $15 or so.

I want to second this. While I will certainly be buying this, I wish it wasn't a level 1 adventure. Oh well.

At 128 pages, I can't imagine it doesn't go to at least 5th level. I do agree that it seems odd to have both an adventure and an adventure path start in the same area.

A typical part 1 of an adventure path is less than half that length and can make it to 5th level, so there'll be plenty of room to hit above 5th in this one, I suspect. Doesn't mean it WILL, but it certainly CAN.

Can you already tell us which Flip-Mats will be used for this adventure?!

Would be cool, so I as the DM can start planning this thing out.

And - YES - there can never be enough Varisia for me! Especially, since James Jacobs "told us" (in AP#001), that Lamashtu still has plans for this area. I really hope, after more than 150 APs, we will get to know more about those plans (and maybe the Mothman priesty thing on that island off the coast of Sandpoint)...

FYI, this page is really hard to find on the Paizo website for me. It's not under the preorder section for 2E Adventures, despite it being a part of the Adventure Subscription. I only found out about it the first time through the Erik Mona interview over at Roll For Combat, and this second time I had to look up Erik Mona's name under "Everything" and sort it by Newest to find it (it's not even under "Products", so that's worrisome).

Just figure I'd let y'all know. I wish I knew about this release a lot sooner.

This adventure is easily found on the Adventure Subscription page, but it is definitely missing from this page, where it should be appearing on the currently non-existent Pre-order tab.

But as someone who isn't a subscriber, I wouldn't think to check the Subscription page for content that couldn't also be found on a pre-order tab. So I wouldn't count that as "easily."

That is why I was drawing attention to the exact page where the adventure is conspicuously missing.

I would repost this in the Website feedback forum, more likely to be seen that way.

So I’m curious how scalable the adventure can be. I’d love to run my current players through this as they are near Absalom but they definitely won’t be level 1.

Either way it’s a purchase from me even if I have to make them roll new characters!

You know, as one of the players in that session, I thought exactly the same thing when I read the description. We were on the brink of TPK when time ran out in the slot, and I thirst for a rematch!

Will there be higher level modules for PF 2E being produced. IIRC the first one is a lvl 1-5 and so is this one

Starting at first level means it probably doesn't provide any answers that I'm looking for, but Eric Mona's adventures are always absolute bangers, so I'm willing to give it a chance at least.

And convert it to First Edition, of course. ;)

Heh, nice to see you here, Jukka! I think the session I watched for a while might have been the one you played in? Although I only got brief glimpses at gameplay and the map Erik had drawn, I had a very positive vibe about Kings in Absalom. :)

Erik is definitely one of the best adventure writers in the world, period. My other favorites are Mike Shel, Chris Perkins, Willie Walsh and Jason Buhlman.

(First edition you say? Heresy! I'll inform my good friend Lictor Richemar to send a squad of Hellknights to confiscate your books for his next clarity pyre! ;))

IMPORTANT UPDATE: The Dead God's Hand Adventure and its associated Flip-Mat are delayed for a few months due to author (and Paizo's Publisher) Erik Mona putting his focus on making the Absalom hardcover as awesome as possible, so we're shifting around the release order of our 2020 adventures.

The next adventure, Ron Lundeen's The Slithering, takes us to the edge of the Mwangi Expanse in an unsettling whodunnit involving a curse that turns its victims into puddles of malevolent ooze, and we know you're going to love it. It will release alongside an associated Flip-Mat, which you can find here.

The Dead God's Hand will still release following The Slithering, but we're moving it to a placeholder release date of December 2020 for now. We'll announce the new formal release date for it as soon as we can. Thank you for your understanding!

Oh darn! I was looking at my subscription for February thinking Dead God's Hand can not be too far away. Then I sort of freaked that it was not listed in the Adventure product page. No problem it sort seems to make sense to come out the Absalom book anyway :)

I'm a bit disappointed at these news, because I had thought I'd be using Absalom : City of Lost Omens + Dead God's Hand to run a 2E mini-campaign for a group of board game fans. We were supposed to start ASAP, but I guess I'll postpone the whole thing for a few months. Of course, Agents of Edgewatch is another potential campaign, but I'm not convinced that AP would be ideal for what I was planning.
