Sound the Retreat

With a handful of survivors from a Swarm invasion as passengers, the heroes travel to a nearby colony world in search of safety. At the overburdened metropolis of New Grakka, members of a movement who believe the Swarm are punishment for the system's sins are disrupting the military's efforts to take in refugees. The heroes must stop these fanatics, as well as clear out a series of caverns beneath the city that could provide shelter and protection should the Swarm attack this planet. In the process, they discover clues that might help solve an ancient shirren mystery!

This volume of Starfinder Adventure Path continues the Attack of the Swarm! Adventure Path and includes:

  • "The Last Refuge," a Starfinder adventure for 3rd-level characters, by Mara Lynn Butler.
  • A historical look at the shirren people's flight from the Swarm in the early days following the Gap, by Lacy Pellazar.
  • A catalog of biomechanical starships, by Tracy Barnett.
  • An archive of alien creatures, including an aquatic ambush predator and several new Swarm creatures, by Anthony Bono, Mara Lynn Butler, and Owen K.C. Stephens.
  • Statistics and deck plans for a military infiltration vessel, by Tracy Barnett, plus a glimpse at a colony world of shallow oceans, by Mara Lynn Butler.

This product page hasn't been updated, it has been created from scratch (it was ominously missing, despite book 1, 3 & 4 having product pages).

It sounds like religious fanatics (the worst kind), in Warhammer 40K it would probably be Genestealer Hybrids among them. ;-)

This AP isn't a straightforward man vs. bio-hive race though, but it has a religious undertheme with Hylax - the insect godess and the separation of the shirren race from the swarm.

And the update clearly isn't complete, as this item is still unavailable for preorder even though the volumes before and after it are available -- and it is not yet showing up on the subscription page.

That cover has a "GET TO THE CHOPPA!" feel to it.

I'm really loving the covers for this adventure path!

Carry on!

And now it appears to be fixed, assuming that there are no subtle issues as with the adventure path and campaign setting issues.

Interesting. This AP seems to be connected to the Swarm somehow. You can actually see some clues, as the inclusion of Swarm related monsters in the alien archive of the two first volumes already announced. Now I'm curious.

Is this a weird joke?

Stick to your day job, kid, you're never gonna make it in comedy.

I'm surprised there hasn't been many posts in this one.

There should be more when somebody gets their PDF and spills the beans.

Preemptive question before the subscriber PDFs start dropping: what are the new Swarm creatures in this one?

Swarm Antecourser (CR 3)(might have spelled that wrong)
Swarm Nauphage (CR 2)
Swarm Revulsor (CR 4).

Do the starships in the article have the Living Starship rule?

No, they're of a new type called "biomechanical" and are not living in and of themselves. As the intro to it says: "Biomechanical starships meld complex biology and cutting-edge technology to form starships that include self-contained living systems, though they're not actual creatures like living starships"

They've got some neat abilities. Self healing near stars, ability to release pheromones to help the crew, stuff like that.

What are the other new creatures in the bestiary (name, type, subtypes, size, CR)?

Or maybe they lost one of the parents?

Humans have only two possibilities for less than complete sets of parents -- shirren evidently have six such possibilities.

Eh, the picture's description is just that it shows the character's family.

Its otherwise very stereotypical family photo except that it has shirrens in it.
