Cleric Feats and Leveling

Classes

Hello!

Want to start this thread by apologizing as I'm new to Pathfinder (and playtest etc).

I've rolled a cleric and am enjoying him so far, but I'm getting towards leveling up and have a few questions. In the graph regarding cleric feats, at level 2 I unlock a cleric feat (and every 2 levels after).

When looking at the levels for cleric feats I see 1, 4, 8, 14 and 20. How does my level choose which bracket I chose a feat from? As I'll be level two, am I only allowed to select from level one until I'm level 4? At 6 do I only chose from 1 and 4 etc? I'm just confused by what the levels mean and which I can pick etc.

Lastly, when I rolled my char I chose a very low strength modifier with plans to switch to Guided Hand. Huge mistake there, as I see it's no longer in Playtest :P. What can I do to modify my strength going forward? (I'm also a bit confused about the level up process but I'm sure my group can help me there).

Thanks!

When it's your class, you can take feats at your level or below that you meet the requirements for. So yes, at level 2 you can only take the level 1 feats. At 4 and 6 you can take 1 and 4. etc.

It affects things differently if you take an archetype into another class, as you might be using a level 14 class feat but it counts as a level 2 feat for the other class.

Every 5 levels you get four ability boosts, just like the last step of character creation. So at level 5 you can boost your STR by 2 (along with three other abilities), and can do so again at 10,15,20.

At higher level, you can get the ability boosting item for STR, which will boost it to 18 (or add +2 if it's already 18). You can only have one of those items, so if you take the STR one you can't take another one. But if your STR is 8 and you want more, it will take you all the way to 18 instantly.

Given that you based your STR around an ability that no longer exists, your DM might let you redo that.

Those 4 ability boosts work exactly like the 4 free ones from char gen.

It's a grid. Stats across the top, level down the side. One mark in any given cell. A mark is worth +2 (or +1 if the stat is >=18).

My digital sheet handles it quite nicely. Needs some updates that I've done (i.e. push it up onto dropbox/google) but my desktop has been on fire, so that's been troublesome.

Thanks all for your responses. I'll definitely look at the character sheet you posted!

A secondish question (so sorry, as you can tell I'm quite new). When I gain a spell can I choose any of the divine spells in that list? I see the keywords and I'm unsure how they align with my stats etc.

Essentially yes. Your diety may impose an anathema (i.e. "do not cast Evil spells) but you're more or less safe picking anything from that list.

Welcome to the game. :)

Yes. Every game morning when you do "daily preparations", you can fill your spell slots with any spell on the Divine spell list that is appropriate for the level of the spell slot and that you don't have a restriction against (the anathema list for the deities gives you those).

Your first level slots can have first level spells, and your second level slots can have second (or first, which makes them heightened) level spells.

You can change which spells you have every day, you're not required to use the same ones.

Thank you again.

Ok I swear one last one. I was trying to find this in the rulebook but I must be blind.

How do I increase my spell slot amount? Is this something that comes with levels as well?

Yes. You essentially gain 1 spell of your highest level every time you gain a level. There's a table for it.

Gotcha, I wasn't entirely sure if that just meant the number of spells at that level I can cast/prepare per day (aka not changing the amount of slots of spells total), or if I'm just given that amount of spell slots for that level of spells.

The table (in general) is spells you can cast per day. Clerics don't "know" spells, they go "Hey god, I need some juice today" and they get it.

That's a perfect analogy! Haha. Thank you so much for the information, you both have been so helpful. That table is just confusing as I think the rulebook refers to spell slots about once and doesn't pick up the term again :P

Thanks for everything!
