A Place in the Suns

The heroes journey deeper into the Vast to find the Gate of Twelve Suns, an alien megastructure consisting of a dozen stars arranged in a perfect circle. However, members of the Cult of the Devourer precede them, and the heroes must contend with the cultists for control of the alien technology found on the single planet orbiting each sun. Only by defeating these foul marauders can the heroes keep the superweapon hidden here out of the wrong hands—though the destructive zealots are far from the only threats found in the system.

This volume of Starfinder Adventure Path continues the Dead Suns Adventure Path and includes:

  • "The Thirteenth Gate," a Starfinder adventure for 9th-level characters, by Stephen Radney-MacFarland.
  • A collection of technological relics left scattered across the galaxy by the kishalee, members of an ancient advanced alien civilization, by Stephen Radney-MacFarland.
  • Detailed descriptions of the worlds and cultures of five never-before-encountered alien species, by Mikko Kallio, Jason Keeley, Lyz Liddell, Ron Lundeen, and Mark Moreland.
  • An archive of new creatures, from the main inhabitants of the five new alien worlds to an undead manifestation of entropy, by Mikko Kallio, Jason Keeley, Lyz Liddell, Ron Lundeen, Mark Moreland, and Stephen Radney-MacFarland.
  • Statistics and deck plans for a heavily modified starship crewed by Devourer cultists, by Stephen Radney-MacFarland, plus a glimpse of a barren planet cloaked in shadow in the Codex of Worlds, by Owen K.C. Stephens.

A improvement

****( )

This is probably the best in the ap. Finnaly it feels like the wild goose chade as ended and you get to take out one of your primary antagonists. Its also a fun dungeon crawl with villans that are fun and not forgettable. Wile i have been mixed so far on this ap this mod shows me that the team is learning and improving, and that gives me hope. The new races are cool as are the new planets

You tell him that. You may just be the next plate on his menu.

Dood's rocking around in space full plate, as a Hellknight. He's probably healthier than most of us. Also, DEEP MUSCLE.

(Chub does not automatically equal unhealthy on a human)

That's the same mutant Cabbage Patch head as the high priestess of Iomedae in Hell Comes to Westcrown. I'll say this for the artist, they have a distinctive style.

Wait, 5 new cultures!?! Haven't even got the 4th book yet and I'm already hyped up for this one! The pessimist inside me says that not all of them will have playable race stats but if even 1 or 2 do I'll be over the moon!

All five of them will have racial traits for players! And one you might have already met in a Starfinder Society scenario!

NOOO! The suspense is too much! I can imagine what it's likely to be but that just makes it worse! I can't wait until the APs go monthly so I can get my hands on even more cool SF content.

I can only think of two races it could be.

SFS spoilers:
I imagine it's either gonna be the Ghibrani from scenario #03 or the Morlamaws from scenario #08. Personally I'd be fine with either but I can see why the latter may not be appropriate for all games due to their somewhat ridiculous nature.

SFS Spoilers:
I was hoping that they would build the Ghibrani race up more in SFS with multiple missions there, then release it, not put the race in an AP! Assuming that Ghibrani is the race in question.

I mean it definitely could be both and I'd be pretty happy with whatever we get! But the way Jason phrased it implied there was only one race from the SFS content so I'm working under that assumption right now. Whatever we get you guys have created some great content both within and outside of SFS so keep it up!

It will indeed be only one of those two races. I believe Thursty was saying "why not both.gif" to the Masked Ferret's post.

so, any idea as to what that beautiful monster on the cover is?

It looks vaguely similar to a Neh-Thalggu. That, or it's yet another grotesque alien monstrosity whose only chance of defeat lies with the swashbuckling heroics of one Spaceman Spiff!

Speaking of Neh-Thalggu, Dominion of the Black anytime soon, maaaybe? Nudge-nudge. Nudge-nudge.

nice Calvin and Hobbes reference, Opsylum.
and I do hope it's related to Neh-Thalggus, but it has two mouths. Do Neh-Thalggus have two mouths?
Dominion needs a whole Alien Archives to itself in my book.

Dominion needs a whole Alien Archives to itself in my book.

In my headcanon, Spaceman Spiff was a celebrated Steward who crash-landed on Aucturn and has been waging a half-hallucinated guerrilla war with Dominion invaders for years, almost - but never quite - managing to keep a starship in one piece long enough to get back home.

Yeah, there are a lot of anatomical similarities (bubble/pustule-like protrusions, green hide, oozy, crab-like body, etc), but some definite differences too - no vice-grip claws, for one. The upper mouth looks vaguely similar to a Neh-Thalggu's ordinary mouth, so it's feasible Thalggu's have had a mouth on their underbelly all this time we've never known about. It's probably not a Neh-Thalggu, but it looks close enough to elicit a raised eyebrow. If Paizo releases a Dominion of the Black faction guide/alien archive, I would buy it in a second. I love nightmarish brain collectors!

if they do it should be called the "encyclopedia of Vhaeso's tears" in homage to the Dominion article in Iron Gods

I don't think it'll be this one as the description says it's 5 new species we've never seen before. That said, I'm open to being wrong! Not trying to derail the thread but I hope/expect we'll get a book dedicated to all the things (species, artifacts, etc.) carried over from Golarion some time in the future.

Speaking of the new races, don't suppose anybody has the book and has any info about them they would be willing to share?

yeah, very sad but understandable. Eager to see what happens next

Starfinder Superscriber

I don't have the book, but I got some spoilers from someone that got it this morning.

new races:

There are two versions of the beetle people from SFS1-03, Ghibrani?
There is a Jellyfish person (scyphozoan?)
There is an ooze person.
There is some kind of serpent person.
And there is something described to me as a "monkey-taur"

I *do* have the book, but I also need to go to a meeting in about 10 minutes ...

What's this, I beat Skeld! For the third time ever!

Paying extra for shipping is already paying for itself!

New races!

Militant Jellyfish (judging by the heat they're packing).

Four legged simians, I wouldn't say Monkey-taur as it's a bit more subtle.

Ooze! It's very oozy.

Some sort of Hydra race, without regeneration, they are large.

Bug people from a planet suffering nuclear fallout.

I can't seem to find a listing for it anywhere but I assume there will be a pawn collection for the adventure path? I would really like to see pawns for all the critters (esp. The playable ones.)
Belay that, I just remembered that the pawns aren't part of the adventure path line and were part of the accessories line. But I would still like to know if there will be pawns for the playable races.

There will be a Dead Suns Pawn Collection! And you will get at least one pawn for each of the new alien races presented in this volume, as well as a couple for some of the other creatures in the Alien Archives that don't appear in the adventures.
