Targeting
1: LeGuin
2: Hekk
Target: 1d2 ⇒ 2
The spirit wheels past Aryas and attempts to make a strike at Hekk, as it bellows a challenge in ancient Kellid.
This will provoke from Aryas, but he can go around LeGuin.

Branson will cause a sunbeam to extend from his hand and envelop the unnatural creature...
Normal DMG: 9d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 5, 4, 1, 1, 5, 2, 3) = 27 vs undead
The creature gets a DC 21 Ref save for half damage. If the creature is particularly harmed by bright light, then it is destroyed if it fails its save.
Hekk |
negative 8 strength - ugh! I think that provokes from Hekk and he also gets his readied attack, right?
Hekk |
Nevermind about the AoO or readied attack, that was the shadow; this is a different guy. And I assume the 'negative' is negative energy damage, right?
Hekk flies into a rage and lashes out with his Bardice, back to using his normal weapon when the trident let him down. Though he is still carrying the thing.
"Yes", he exclaims when the thing singles him out and attacks.
To hit Bardiche, rage: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 10 + 2 = 18

With your permission, of course.
Touch treatment to remove sickened.
Tathane Halfbarrel |
No problem. Didn't know if you have blindsight or something else. I mean, psionicsology is pretty amazing...
Tathane feels sick and awful. But with grim determination he moves into the room with the creature. He keeps his distance and positions himself for a good shot at the creature.

Touch treatment.
GM MattMorris |
Tathane's arrow does some damage to the creature.
The galloping ghost takes a stab at Hekk, then swiftly floats over to another part of the room.
That will provoke from Aryas and LeGuin

Branson Davelock |
Branson moves into the room, into a protected corner, and channels the power of Korada to heal his companions.
Channel Energy: 5d6 + 1 ⇒ (5, 6, 6, 1, 3) + 1 = 221d6 ⇒ 5 30' radius, exclude 4, cure shaken fatigued, diseased. The extra 1d6 healing applies to anyone that doesn't need the mercies
I don't believe anyone is shaken, fatigued, or diseased, so everyone gets 27 hp of healing.
Hekk |
Hekk should have been listed at -47. He did not heal up fully and was at -2 entering the battle but the rage just saved him 6 HP so you are 4 off. With Branson's healing he should now be at -20. Did that attack not provoke from Hekk with his reach weapon?
Hekk charges across the battlefield with his bardiche outstretched like a lance.
To hit Bardiche, rage, charge: 1d20 + 10 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 10 + 2 + 2 = 25
Damage Bardiche, rage: 1d10 + 19 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 19 + 2 = 22
GM MattMorris |
LeGuin's rerolled attack is enough to take out the monster. It's lance clatters to the ground as the specter fades away.
Hekk, sorry I missed your updated HP.
Near the altar, several valuable items are strewn about: a masterwork composite shortbow (+4 Str), two masterwork daggers, a masterwork longsword, a masterwork spear, a masterwork trident, five bejeweled necklaces worth 250 gp each, three thick silver rings carved with stylized tree symbols worth 50 gp each, and three carved opals (depicting a mounted horselord, a rampaging hill giant, and a fire drake). Each of the opals is worth 800 gp.
Aryas Katsu |
Aryas looks around and puts everything in his bag of holding if no one claims the items.
“There terrible nightmares in these caverns!!“
Take 20 search for missed things or secret doors.
If nothing else can be found Aryas opens the double doors.

Leo casts detect psychic significance
Whatever it reveals, he will mutter knowingly and say, I thought so.
He also casts detect magic and takes 10 on spellcraft for a 24.
Hekk |
If Branson does not heal Hekk, he will do so himself with his wand of infernal healing. Just need to know how may charges to deduct.
Hekk posts watch while the others sift through the loot, not particularly interested in what he considers junk himself.
GM MattMorris |
The chamber holds most of the warlord’s possessions, including weapons and shields once borne by him in battle. The tapestries represent the heraldry he used at the height of his power, with the black orb representing the Cradle of Night; all show signs of having been preserved with unguent of timelessness but are now beginning to show their age.
Aryas and LeGuin: You find secret doors built into the southern wall of the room.
You also find that one of the carvings in the coffin is a cunningly-concealed switch. It's unclear what it does.
Aryas Katsu |
Aryas will pull or push the switch to see what it does.
“Let us see what happens!“
GM MattMorris |
When you push the switch, the platform that you are standing on starts to sink into the floor!
It's moving pretty slowly, so if you want to jump off, you can.
You can see that the platform comes to rest 20 feet below.
Hekk |
Hekk jerks with surprise, having been facing the entrances to the rooms. His first reaction to the noise is to leap onto the platform as if it might escape him, though his overly excited move is met with a ponderous reaction as the thing slips slowly down and comes to a stop a mere 20' lower.
"Well, that was disappointing!"
Hekk |
OK. Three charges marked off.
LeGuin |
Leguin jumps back, waiting to see where this coffin elevator is going.
"That's a new one. Let's get a knotted rope set up and head down."
I think Leguin was in Branson's heal and hence all set, but if not he'd hit himself with some charges of his wand
GM MattMorris |
One-by-one, you lower yourselves into the subterranean chamber. Though no light penetrates here, you can see all of the details clearly.
Several stone pillars support the ceiling of this large chamber. Huge tapestries hang from every wall, each depicting landscapes and battles among hills and plains. A jet-black pedestal of carved rock stands empty to the north. Three scorched areas on the floor surround the crumbled remains of a stone statue to the south, near a closed stone coffin.
Anyone not going down the hole?
Hekk |
Hekk eyes he scorch marks warily.
"More scorch marks? Do you think this is the actual resting place?"
Aryas Katsu |
Aryas steps away to let the platform sink down. Then he pushes the button to get the platform up again.
"Let us investigate the below!"
We have not cleared the level above, right?"
Aryas then moves forward.
LeGuin |
"Wait, Aryas. We can just ride it up. I'd rather not be trapped down here with no way to get out."
Take 10 for 31 Perception around the room
