A wide variety to ensure something suits your needs

5/5

Most of this set is very specific in use. The set list highlights that there are over a hundred 1x1 tiles of various items. I personally have little use for them, and could have used more 2x2 tiles for pits and the like.

However, even the smaller subset of things I feel I will actually use is worth the price to have, and having those 1x1 tiles may come in handy somewhere down the line. The main complaint I have is the small number of certain types of tiles, but given the wide variety, the breadth of items is more important than the depth of each one.

Updated: Great Collection

5/5

Update to my original review — my subscription order was short one sheet of pawns (the last sheet), instead of eight total sheets, I only received seven. I contacted customer service and a replacement sheet has been dispatched!

I originally gave 4/5 stars because I was short twenty-two pawns, but they are now on their way... so now I’m bumping up my review to 5/5 for creativity, masterful artwork, and the total number of different pawns. I’m looking forward to using these pawns quite a bit!

Side note: if it wasn’t clear from the description on the website, this set does not include any bases. The pawns can either lay flat or can be inserted into Paizo bases.

I think I have a box. Cardboard tiles? The father of the boy that games with us on Sunday (my son's friend) loaned it to me. He said he found it new in a garage sale or something. I haven't had a chance to use it yet since I play APs and most maps work out better on my mats with wet-erase markers. The set isn't big enough to do any of the Giantslayer dungeons, typically, but there is a room or two coming up in book 5 that may have potential.

Those are the ones, though only a few of the sets had actual 3D stuff which slotted together. Most of the sets were simply 2D tiles, and therefore not quite what this set of pawns is about.

Gotcha. The set I have is the actual dungeon itself, too, perhaps with art depicting furniture, etc. but I don't know for sure. I haven't spent much time studying them for synergy.

This is such a great idea!

I would be interested to know when we will see Pictures of this intriguing product.

I'd guess at about September, as this is an October-release.

Thx for the update, Chris.

The third type of tiles should probably read 2' by 2' pawns, though. ;-)

It also looks like some pawns are able to be either be put flat on the floor or stood up straight with the help of a base.
Nice idea!

Also there are swarms in it, very cool.

This set would really benefit from either some sample images or a blog.

Yay! Set list. Interesting mix of props. Definitely looking forward to grabbing this set!

Here's hoping we get to see some of the standing pieces in a preview. Unfortunately, the stuff depicted on the cover makes it look like these are pretty much a straight analog to the WotC Dungeon Tiles (albeit with higher quality card stock). Which would be fine, but hardly innovative.

Yes, the only one tile from the eleven on the cover which makes sense to put in a base is the 2' x 2' "Vault door".

Most listed pawns seem to lie flat on the mat.
Only ones that make sense to put in a 1' base are:

candelabrum,
pillars,
statues,
suit of armor,
tall throne,
tesla coil,
wall blades.

2' base:
Gaping gate,
sculpted gate,
vault door.

A picture cover showing that combination would have been better imo.

Sweet! Thank you Chris! :)

I'm sure the rugs, if put in a base, are making nice Wall-rugs. (or at least some nice stand-ins for such)

But yeah, those scroll- and book-cases would have looked swell on 2' x2', front view. Then you could have layed them flat and said "Yeah, that one's been knocked over".

I use a lot of Litko props for doors, mounts and spell effects. This set will supplement them quite nicely.

I must have this! Although I would respectfully submit, upon reviewing the list, the overwhelming majority of pawns included are neither Traps nor Treasures.

I'm curious to see if the pawns that lay flat will have images on both sides.

Seeing the product image has definitely made me more excited to get my hands on it!

They do.

It would have been cool if they had different art on each side. Like a rug on one side then flip it over to reveal a pit trap.

Yeah that'd be really neat!

Moved to november 15th!

Still interested to see some previews of this

There seems to be a problem with this product, as it is now moved another month down to december 13th...

Since it didn't arrive in time for October, pushing it to November would mean it's in the same month as the Ironfang Invasion pawns, and we didn't want to double-hit Pawns subscribers in the same month. Since that product is a bit more time-sensitive, we decided to push this one another month.

I'm a sad dragon :( Been waiting so impatiently for this release!

That makes perfect sense.

Thank you for your always well thought out explaination, Vic.

They go a long way to lay my doubts to rest. ;-)

Received my pawns over the weekend. After reading the product review from mra7nk, I'm now wondering if I'm also missing a sheet of pawns from this set. I didn't get the PDF because I'm not subscribing to the pawns set. Can someone from Paizo confirm whether mra7nk is correct? Thanks.

Hey ckdragons, I just opened a fresh set and it was perfect (nothing missing and nothing extra) so I'm guessing that somehow the two of you received a duplicate pawn sheet in place of the last pawn sheet, which can happen. If you take each sheet (or each pawn) and compare them with the count on the back of the packaging (or the one on the product page) you should be able to tell easily if you have a duplicate sheet and which sheet it is.

Also please contact Customer Service and they will help you get a replacement sheet for the ones you are missing. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Sorry for the added stress ckdragons! I’ve just updated my review.

I gave the “cover” a closer look tonight after Jeff Alvarez emailed me, and it appears that... My subscription order was short one sheet of pawns (the last sheet), instead of eight total sheets, I only received seven. I contacted customer service and a replacement sheet has been dispatched.

It’s a great set, and like Jeff mentioned, I would recommend: verify that your pawns match what the back inventory list says should be included (I had the luxury of the additional PDF because of the subscription).

Dark Archive

Thank you, Jeff and mra7nk. I inventoried the sheets I did receive against the list on the back cover, and found that I wasn't missing any pawns.

Love these pawns. I will get a lot of use out of them in my games!

They do.

Did you really have to write on the tiles what they are supposed to be depicting?

Seriously?
"Rug" "Rune" "Wall Blade"
"Cracked Floor" :-(

A huge selling point for the PDF: I can extract the pictures and dump the text.

Just received mine. Excellent set, even if I expect I won't use half of it. The half I will use is worth the price.

This is the biggest downside of this product. The text is in both sides, so you put a table tile and read "Table" :/

Have these been updated with labels only on one side?
