A Campaign Fit For a Queen

The kings and queens of Korvosa have long ruled under the shadow of the Curse of the Crimson Throne—an infamous superstition claiming that no monarch of the city of Korvosa shall ever die of old age or produce an heir. Whether or not there is any truth to the legend of the curse, Korvosa's current king is but the latest victim to succumb to this foul legacy. Now, the metropolis teeters on the edge of anarchy, and it falls to a band of new heroes to save Korvosa from the greatest threat it has ever known! This hardcover compilation updates the fan-favorite campaign for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, including new and revised content and nearly 500 pages packed with mayhem, excitement, and adventure!

This hardcover edition of Curse of the Crimson Throne contains:

  • All six chapters of the original Adventure Path, expanded and updated for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game.
  • An in-depth gazetteer of the city of Korvosa as it exists under the rule of its new queen.
  • An array of new rules options for characters, ranging from campaign traits to spells to magic items.
  • An expansive appendix with statistics, descriptions, backgrounds, and rules support for the 12 most important NPCs in the campaign.
  • A bestiary featuring nine monsters from the original Adventure Path making their debut under the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game rules.
  • Dozens of new illustrations, never-before-seen characters, location maps, extensive new encounter locations, and more!

Limited Edition: The Curse of the Crimson Throne Limited Edition Hardcover is a paizo.com exclusive product featuring a deep red faux leather cover debossed with gold foil. The content of the book is the same as the Curse of the Crimson Throne Hardcover.

Even better than the original

5/5

It was perhaps inevitable that Curse of the Crimson Throne would one day also receive a similar treatment to Rise of the Runelords. There’s no special anniversary to celebrate this year, but does there really need to be? Much like its Runelords predecessor, the new hardcover compilation of Crimson Throne updates the adventure path to Pathfinder rules and also expands on the story where beneficial and streamlines in other areas. It also takes advantage of the most recent rules supplements, making use of newer monsters, classes, and feats where appropriate.

At nearly 500 pages in length, it is actually a substantially larger tome than the hardcover Runelords (a good 50 pages or so longer), and its extra length is certainly put to good use. Indeed, it manages to make one of the best adventure paths even better.

Understandable: if I lived in the US, I would have snapped it up.
The price difference to upgrade just wasn't that much.

I'm now incredibly glad I upgraded my order. ^_^

me too :3

Heh, I wonder what the odds are of getting my physical stuff before my downloads? XD

So...will there be a second run on the limited edition?

Probably not. I don't believe there was one for RotR, as the costs of another printing probably would not be covered by the revenue that sales would generate.

Can't wait for the PDF.

It'd kinda put the mockery on the whole limited edition part, too.

Dark Archive

Sold out after 10 days - congratulations! :-)

I am now curious how long it will take for the first printing of the normal hardcover to sell out.

Have there been reprints for the Rise of the Runelords Anniversary Edition?
I don't think so, but i'm not sure.
It is still available after 4 years.

I expect we will see the "Legacy of Fire" Hardcover in 2020.

Marco,

I'd like that but I'm not as hopeful.

Grand Lodge

I did not expect it to sell out that fast. Very disappointed I missed it.

Eh, I'd rather have the Ileosa cover. :-)

Actually there was NOT a reprint for the Rise of the Runelords Special Edition, like TriOmegaZero asserts. And unfortunately we will not be reprinting the Curse of the Crimson Throne Limited Edition.

Hey Marco. No we didn't reprint the RotR SE edition and we are either sold out of it as well or we are down to our last couple.

Hi Jeff, thanks for answering.

I know there hasn´t been a reprint for the Rise of the Runelords Deluxe Collectors Edition ($199.99), which sold out recently.

I meant the normal Anniversary Edition Hardcover ($59.99), which has been available since 2012 and still is.

That one won´t be reprinted as well, will it?
There are still more than 1000 of it in stock.

I don´t know the print run of either the RotR hardcover collection (which i bought) or the one of the CotCT hardcover collection (which i´ll buy next week), but i bet the later has a higher print run AND will sell out sooner than the first one. ;-)

Liberty's Edge

Sold out already?!
Darn. I was waiting until the First World book was out to try and save on shipping.

Jester,

This is why it pays to prioritize things.

That is also why it pays to have at least one subscription active. Then you can select the shipping option "Sidecart It" for anything else you order.

Will there be anymore of the collector's edition available? I just finally got the cash together for it too. ;____;

Unlikely, unless someone still waiting for shipment cancels their order. It is supposed to be a limited edition after all.

Dark Archive

If i had to guess, i´d say the limited edition was 1000 pieces and the regular hardcover 10000.

While no numbers were provided for the Rise of the Runelords Limited Collectors Edition, it was much more pricey with $199.99 compared to $74.99 for the Curse of the Crimson Throne one.
Probably that was not figured in as accurately, but suchs things are very hard to figure out.

I now am curious how the regular edition will sell, but i figure it will do even better than RotR.
In my opinion it is the better AP.

Damn. I didn't expect them to sell out that fast, the RotR ones were around for ages.

Just had the notification mines at home, my ability to focus at work is now shot... this is going to be a long day.

Now I just need to wait for the PDF release and buy that for the easy copy/paste into Fantasy Grounds.

There is a very real difference between those two limited editions:

The CotCT Limited is pretty much just a normal book with faux leather cover. That (and the limited run) is the $15 difference to the normal hardcover edition.

The RotR Limited is a very expensive case with faux leather and a metal clasp, a number of Art-Prints, and a superior hardcover book with special inserts (hand-outs that can be handed out straight out of the book) and another faux leather cover. (While very pricey at $200, I also think it is quite worth it.)

Yeah, i know all that, but in the end more people will pay 75 bucks instead of 200.

That is one of the reasons (not the only one of course) the new collectors edition went faster than the first one (which is a great and beautiful collectors item).

If i had to pay 15 bucks more, it wouldn´t hurt me as much as 140 more.
Just sayin´. ;-)

So just got the book and... WOW. This is one of the most amazing RP books I've ever seen, everything about it is beautiful.

Here is a picture of a very happy* GM giving his players and Paizo some love.

Very true.

Still, comparing those two Limited Editions as you did (without pointing out the differences) does the RotR-LE a disservice.

Bummed I missed out on the limited edition of the collected edition (Got the Rise LE and it is sweet). Here's as good a place as any to make my opinion known. I feel that on collected editions, the Limited Edition Version should be the ONLY version (no LE version, just a normal print run like Pazio normally does, but with the only cover being the Faux leather and foil embossed version), it just looks classier than the main release. There, it's out there, I said it. /End Whinging.

Just to confirm as I am a little unsure on this issue.

There is no free version of the PDF unless I was a subscriber correct? I want to grab the PDF to work from on Fantasy Grounds and read on work breaks but don't want to drop the money then find I got it free with this purchase.

Silver Crusade

I don't think you had to be a subscriber, just preorder it.

Rysky wrote:

AFAIK you had to have an active subscription AND preorder the book to get the PDF for free.

Now that the book is out (well, the normal hardcover, since the LE is gone), the only way to get the PDF is to buy it, regardless of whether you buy the physical book or not.

Silver Crusade

Ah, okies.

Thanks for the clarification Franz.

I'll go grab the PDF now then. Just didn't want to spend money then find I missed that non AP subscribers did get a free one.

My friend just got his, and it isn't the limited edition. He is very irrate. I told him to call monday, but he isn't hopefull due to the limited supply.

I had my doubts, but it seems I am just cynical. Paizo champ costumer service team took care of things and he is very happy.
