It Came from Beyond the Stars!

What begins as a simple rescue mission takes a turn for the surreal when the heroes are abducted by a great silvery egg that whisks them into the stars. Seeking these alien enemies through tunnels of steel and corridors crackling with energy, the heroes must brave an artificial jungle stocked with fearsome flora and fauna to reach the long-abandoned bowels of the ancient ship, only to come face-to-face with an alien threat of unimaginable horror... an alien threat that has just initiated the ship’s self-destruct sequence!

This adventure is an homage to the classic science fiction horror movies, Alien and The Thing ... as well as the classic AD&D adventure Expedition to the Barrier Peaks.

If any of those titles are up your alley, you should enjoy this nasty little yarn Mike and I cooked up.

Sounds awesome!

Woohoo for this one finally getting out the door. It was a long time in the making and is the biggest adventure we've published to date, and I think people will really enjoy it.

oh neat. i'll probably be picking this up.

I'm a little wary of this one. Mixing magic and technology either works well or works terrible--no in between. Anybody have a review?

It's similar to Expedition to the Barrier Peaks. Your adventuring site is technological and there are plenty of strange gadgets and technological gear and weapons ... but no actual mixing of magic and technology.

I have questions:

  • This adventure appears to be set between Valley of the Brain Collectors and Palace of Fallen Stars. Will it throw off the level progression for the last two books of the AP?

  • Is the adventure scalable up or down?

  • Does this affect the story of the AP in any way?

  • Will any other of the Metal Gods products be needed for this?

  • Hopefully, my answers are useful!

    1. If the PCs earn every bit of available XP, it might throw off the level progression for the first half of Book 5, but that's it.

    2. We didn't include rules for scalability, but it would be simple to do so. Just eliminate (or add) an enemy or two from each encounter.

    3. Not at all.

    4. No.

    This is weird.

It has been out almost a year, but I can't find review anywhere.
Even on Legendary's own site, no one has rated the adventure.

Well, there are so many third party products out there and so few reviewers. Just keep your fingers crossed. Better yet, submit a review yourself!

Heck, I'd give it 5-1/2 out of 5 stars for two reasons:
Reason #1: I got to work with the crazy-talented Mike Welham on it.

    Reason #2:
Mike let me include a variant froghemoth ... the lovely toadhemoth!

Cool :) I played in an adventure that used elements from Expedition to the Barrier Peaks a long time ago. I haven't sampled a Legendary Games product yet. I have only begun exploring third-party options this month. I'm interested in content of this adventure. Now I just have to find the budget for it. I'd pick it up in May, at the earliest. Thanks for the heads up. :)

Because of the price tag I'm waiting until it's relevant to get this and my group is 10 levels too low to get to it. I might pick it up if I don't have much to buy during shopping breaks.

Did the review go up, and I just can't find it?

Sorry, kilted. Real life has kicked me hard around - all reviews I released in the last couple of weeks are from my completed pile - I didn't have the time to put finishing touches on the Starfall-review, but I *am* doing so right now. Expect to see it hit my site tomorrow.

Whatever is going on with you, End, I hope it settles to your satisfaction soon.

Endzeitgeist's review is available now on his site. Thank you for your kind review, Endz!!

Also, thank you for this little blurb. It made my day. I enjoyed working with Mike ... he's good people. :-)

Aye, the review will hit Paizo et al tomorrow. :)

And thanks for the kind words, Tom!

Eric: I'm currently knee-deep in a big 5e-conversion job, a big PFRPG-dev-job with lots of complex statblocks and obviously I strive to maintain reviewing at my usual frequency I also had the most important assessment center test of my life on Tuesday (keep your fingers crossed for me!) and...then there's real life concerns. So yeah, crazy busy, but not necessarily in a bad way.

I had a great time working with Tom on this. A lot of this was driven/written by him, so the bulk of the kudos go his way.

Reviewed first on endzeitgeist.com, then submitted to Nerdtrek and GMS magazine and posted ehre, on OBS and d20pfsrd.com's shop and amazon.com.

That's a great review, End. I like the information you provided on the 'aliens', I was wondering what the planned ending for them was. I half expected it'd end with the PCs turning them loose on Golarion and getting some allies out of it. Looks like I was very wrong!

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Aye, but you *can* do that potentially; as mentioned, in my test, the PCs considered them a threat ("You're not colonizing ANY planet!"), but the ally angle works as well. I was particularly interested how the module begins intentionally as "generic adventurer sidequest xyz" and then completely flips the expectations. So yeah, this played rather well. And, as always, thanks for the kind words, Eric! :D

I was happy to share your review on our social media. I liked how the authors played with the tempo and tone of the adventure through multiple phases and with different options on how to play through it. I always like a versatile adventure!

Indeed - one of the most impressive components of the module lies in the variation of tempo and genre Starfall offers! I certainly hope that my review will make a couple of people check out this module!

I hope so too! It was an ambitious undertaking but I was very happy with how it came out.

Is there any web enhancement of this adventure?
I buy PDF, but it has too low resolution for image.
    (maps, covers, etc...)
I think PDF is just 3mb volumes so this book needs quality up for that.
