This fantastic Deadly Foes Case Incentive set contains two beautiful display pieces that stands several inches tall and dwarf the other miniatures in the Pathfinder Battles: Deadly Foes set. Included in each box are two "Huge" creatures from the Pathfinder world: the mighty Clockwork Dragon and the mind-melting Spawn of Cthulhu! This set answers fan demand for Huge adversaries, which have not appeared in a Pathfinder Battles set since 2012!

3/5

I guess these need to be reviewed together. So as an average, I give them 3 stars. Individually, I'd probably give the clockwork dragon 4 stars and the spawn of Cthulhu 2 stars. I'll take the two Huges over another decor incentive, but I'd prefer a Gargantuan most of all.

The clockwork dragon looks great. I really like how the silvers and golds interact. There is a nice balance between the delicateness of the clockwork and the fierceness of the dragon.

The spawn of Cthulhu is okay but has its faults. My major criticism is that only its upper body is sculpted. The emerging from the water sculpt severely limits its viability. What if it isn't encountered on the surface of a body of water? Too bad. The water sloshing off its body also doesn't work well for me. It doesn't look watery enough. The spawn itself looks great, what parts we can see of it, that is. If it had legs, it would be a home run.

HUGE is the way to go, but they need to get more sturdy

3/5

GOOD:
Both the Clockwork Dragon and Star-Spawn of Cthulhu look amazing!
The sculpt is really detailed on the Dragon and solid on the Spawn.
The paintjob is good too.
The fact that we get huge miniatures again in Pathfinder Battles is great.

BAD:
Both minis won´t survive a fall from the table intact.
Especially the wings of the Clockwork Dragon are so delicate, that you will have to be super-careful.
The Star-Spawn can only be used when coming out of the water and is essentially too big for a huge - if he had a lower body, it would be a gargantuan mini.

UGLY:
The fact that these are a case incentive and not part of a normal booster series. Wizkids did it recently with "Storm King´s Thunder" and that was a great set. The price would be a reduced number of minis in the set and fewer sculpts, but with two versions each.
Also these are very obscure creatures - i may use a Star-Spawn once or twice and a Clockwork Dragon half a dozen times in my life.

I applaud that the case incentive has switched from a "gargantuan mini" to a "dressing scene" to a "huge two-pack" and now covers a wider possibility of content. I still want a handful of gargantuan minis made, but i want (and need) many more huge minis and a few dressing settings.
I think the minis line is on a good way and will stay strong for the next few years. I would recommend this two-pack and would rank it 3.5 stars, but there is room for improvement.

Thanks! The rendered dragon looks kinda goofy but the spawn is awesome!

The tail is just held a little too high. If it rested on the base I think it would be better.

I'm guessing it's due to lack of availability. :D

More seriously, though, the set's nowhere close to out - they probably aren't even manufacturing yet. In addition, these are a dependent purchase, so preordering probably won't be an option the way it is with normal products.

Right around the time you add a case of Deadly Foes boosters to your cart. ^_^

(It looks like they're not yet decoupled from their status as case incentives. Give it a few months and they might be, at least if there are any left.)

Sweet! Star Spawn! :D

Excellent -- I just got the item back into my "Saved Items -- To Buy Later" section. Now I can monitor its status from the shopping cart page. Apparently the last time I had it there, bad things happened when I attempted to move that item to my shopping cart with no booster case there.
