A Pathfinder Society Scenario designed for levels 7–11.

The cataclysmic Earthfall shattered the ancient Thassilonian civilization, and like its slumbering runelords who fled the destruction, many ruins lie hidden. The Ironbound Archipelago was once part of Edasseril, kingdom of envy, and word has reached the Pathfinder Society that an ancient ruin has emerged on the isle of Flintyreach. Can the PCs gain the local half-orcs’ trust and brave the resident giants’ wrath to secure this archaeological treasure?

Written by John Compton and Linda Zayas-Palmer.

This scenario is designed for play in Pathfinder Society Organized Play, but can easily be adapted for use with any world. This scenario is compliant with the Open Game License (OGL) and is suitable for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game.

Attack on Giants.

4/5

(I played this.)

This is a really nice scenario. Cool setting, good fights, interesting challenges. There isn't much to say about this, other than that it simply just works. There's no real subsystems introduced, but not every scenario needs a minigame. This is just a straightforward scrap. The enemies are scary and hit hard, and it was a nice challenge. There's some skill challenges and roleplay involved, but you can definitely brute-force your way through here if you want.

All in all, it didn't wow me enough to be a five-star, but it's definitely close.

Fairly Generic. Fast.

2/5

Have both played and run this.

Half-orcs send you to square off with giantkin. Fairly generic backdrop. Very predictable. Extremely easy to prep. Runs fast.

It's a good little/quick run with a lot of straight up fights and mechanics. There's some opportunity for roleplay in the intro and about midway through the scenario in a sort of "grey area" which can be fun for 15 mins of RP if you're keeping to a 4-hour game slot.

I'd give it 2 1/2 stars if the rating system allowed for it. There's nothing inherently bad in this scenario, it's just there's nothing spectacular in it either.

A bit underwhelmed

2/5

The set-up for the adventure is fine and I actually enjoyed the first part which is fairly rp and skill heavy in setting up actual war tactics. I dislike how all that mostly amounts to is how healthy the toddler you have to babysit for the first combat is. The first combat isn't super difficult (at least on low tier), and doesn't seem to account for things a party at these levels can do(fly, haste) as well as punish any non-super damage parties.
The second act is a okay, but potentially punishes you for going the diplomatic route. The third act is okay, and led to some decent rp, but the combat was a bit underwhelming. The ruins, which is almost hand waved off at the end, despite being the point of the adventure was a let down.
Overall this adventure was mediocre but did have a couple of neat set pieces in it.

It wasn't the best.

2/5

When I played this we played the high tier and I felt that it was not very enjoyable. The game took us almost 7 hours to get through which I think had more to due with the players at the table than the scenario itself. I was supposed to run this for a table that didn't go off and I could not figure out how our table took that long after reading it. Though after preping it I felt that it was a little dull and like most scenarios would just sorta blend together with all the rest. I also felt that the last combat was more irritating than it was challenging.

Not a bad Giant-fight, but...

3/5

Just played this tonight. Combat in a huge open area against multiple opponents was awesome! That said, the influence mechanics seemed to be set up to reward those people who put skill points in obscure things that 90% of players will not use and punish groups that don't have a critical mass of knowledge junkies.

Spoiler:
Who puts points in knowledge History or Geography? And if a large number of influence points are not gained by the party, the secondary success is impossible. I'm not sure what the max on points was, but with 9 points, it was not actually possible for us to complete is successfully.
Seems shortsighted to me.

I suppose it's asking too much to get a picture of Venture-Captain Calisro Benarry...?

It doesn't say it in the product description that this scenario features a Scarab Sages faction mission. Just thought I'd note it for others planning on running this.
