Hell on the High Seas!

Captain Torius Vin has given up the pirate life in order to bring freedom to others. Along with his loyal crew and Celeste, the ship's snake-bodied navigator and Torius's one true love, the captain of the Stargazer uses a lifetime of piratical tricks to capture slave galleys and set the prisoners free. But when the crew's old friend and secret agent Vreva Jhafe uncovers rumors of a terrifying new magical weapon in devil-ruled Cheliax—one capable of wiping the abolitionist nation of Andoran off the map—will even their combined forces be enough to stop a navy backed by Hell itself?

From award-winning novelist Chris A. Jackson comes a tale of magic, mayhem, and nautical adventure, set in the vibrant world of the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game.

where's the rest

3/5

this book had some real high points, namely with the dark horse protagonist Vreva, but it ends abruptly and feels anticlimactic, without much closure. it honestly feels like there was a ton of material just chopped off to make it fit, leaving me more frustrated than satisfied.

Piracy Gets Political

4/5

I love how the Pirate's series has grown. Pirate's Prophecy builds on the previous two novels to give us a story of proxy war political maneuvers and Golarion style super-weapons that does not disappoint.

I'm just holding onto that last star because I wanted to know more about Yami.

Another fantastic work from Jackson

5/5

Chris A. Jackson has quickly become one of my favorite authors. And with this new offering in the Pathfinder Tales line, it’s easy to see why. I can't praise this book enough. Each of Jackson's "Pirate's..." novels thus far have been amazing. Gripping stories, all, from start to finish.

Pirate’s Prophecy is yet another book that underscores the old adage not to judge a book solely by its cover. Sure, there’s all the the charm, wit, swash, and buckle one could expect from nautical fantasy. But into this heady mix Jackson injects a healthy dose of intrigue, suspense, and mystery. You get lots of high adventure on the high seas just as advertised. But also just enough plotting, scheming, and espionage to spice things up.

Pirate’s Prophecy starts up a little after where Pirate’s Promise leaves off, with Torius, Celeste, and Vreva up to their necks in intrigue. Much like the other books in the series, the narrative shifts back and forth between these three to give a more complete picture of the unfolding plot. Each of the characters have come a long way from where they were when we first met them. And it’s been exciting to how that’s affected their decisions throughout this book.

There’s a point in the story (no spoilers - you’ll know it when you get to it) when something just snaps and the story accelerates into overdrive, the stakes get higher, and things get super deadly. And then, just when you think the conflict’s been resolved and the narrative will mellow out, things launch into even more dire circumstances.

All this leads to a climax as epic as any I’ve experienced in any fantasy novel. A scene as memorable as they come. The kind that, if it happened to your gaming group, you’d be talking about for years.

If you’ve enjoyed either of the two of Jackson’s previous Pathfinder Tales books, definitely pick this one up. If you haven’t yet experienced the adventures of Torius, Celeste, and the crew of the Stargazer: do yourself a favor and pick up all three books. I promise you’ll love it.

Awesome sequal to my favorite PF Books

5/5

Got it yesterday and read all of it in like 12 hours I could not put it down.

All the characters from the main (Torius, Celeste and Vreva) to supporting characters are great.

Vreva sequences are great. Really showing how a seductive magical spy is a great character. Her new familiar, Mathias, had big shoes to fill and did so wonderfully. She really needs her own book.

The development of Celeste is a interesting turn. (which I won't spoil here).

The plot and action are well written. I hope for many books with these characters. And can't wait to read their next adventure.

Pirate's Honor had been sitting on my shelf for several months and after finishing it a week ago I feel foolish for waiting that long. Definitely a cast of characters I can't wait to see in another adventure.

I have only read a handful of the pathfinder novels so far, but this series is definitely my favorite. Excited to for the news of the next entry.

Just finished Pirates Promise this week. Looking forward to the next one. Reading these novels reminds me of how much fun the Skull and Shackles adventure path was!

I love these novels. Can't wait for more Vreva Jhafe.

Thanks everyone! Just so everyone knows, the amazing cover is by Remko Troost. If you want to see the whole thing, front, spine, back, without text, I posted it with permission on my FB page: https://www.facebook.com/chris.a.jackson.967

Cheliax now has the magical equivalent of a ICBM? o_0

That's not good at all. :(

I've really enjoyed the Torius books, and looking forward to the next.

Is it just me, or has the scale of what's at stake been going up a bit lately in the novel line?

I met Mr. Jackson last year at Dragoncon and he was a real pleasure to chat with. Can not wait to read this latest chapter in the series.

I hope I finish Bloodbound before this arrives or I might have to switch over. This series has been enjoyable. Definitely on par with Dave Gross and Howard Andrew Jones entries.

The audio is now available, and the sample is quite nice! Steve West does Torius Vin, doing an Thuvian accent! Sweet!

Paizo, when will you ever release the rest of this series? Come on, we have been dying to read the next books! Quit leaving us hanging!

Hmm I do kinda wonder if I missed something since I accidentally skipped Pirate's Promise, but either way yeah this doesn't really feel like "end of story" book so I assume this is last one of these character's stories just because there aren't pathfinder tales books being released anymore :'D
