A Pathfinder Society Scenario designed for 4th-level pregenerated characters.

For several years, the Pathfinder Society has enjoyed a mutually beneficial alliance with the Sewer Dragons, the dominant tribe of kobolds living beneath Absalom. When an elite patrol discovers a wounded member of the Society with a desperate message, the Sewer Dragons must move quickly intercept an extraordinary threat from seizing their territory—if not Absalom itself! In this special adventure the players portray kobolds as unlikely defenders of the City at the Center of the World using 4th-level pregenerated characters.

Written by Thurston Hillman.

Note: True Dragons of Absalom is a limited release scenario. It may be run anywhere, but only by 5-star GMs. Venture-Officers may only run this scenario if they meet this star rating requirement.

Too Many Specials

There were far too many specials this year (and I'm sure they were great), which ironically made me not want to play any of them. People want to play their own character. Specials fail to be special when there are 4+ of them per year.

Hats!

5/5

I was going to write a long and detailed review of this scenario, but I decided to just summarize...HATS!

This scenario is "Shiny shiny."

5/5

Great Scenario. I had a blast playing this, and it looked like it was probably a lot of fun to GM.

The characters are well developed from backstory to abilities to their gear. Each of them seemed to get their moments to shine in the scenario.

Its been said before, but I will reiterate: amazing NPC. The roleplaying involved with that character was hilarious. We NEED to see more of this character.

While there is certainly the potential for the mid-section to run overly long it can be a great opportunity for player creativity, and a good GM can really make this run pretty smoothly.

The final section was outstanding in my opinion: great setting/flavor, cool lore, and an interesting final encounter.

My hats off to mister Hillman. One of my favorites.

Tons of Fun

5/5

I really enjoyed this scenario. I kind of like pregen scenarios, where you play a character other than your own, because it lets me try out classes and mechanics I wouldn't normally think of. This is particularly true for magic-focused characters, which I always found to be a pain to create. The NPCs were well-done, which really did help move things along. I also felt there was a decent amount of free-will in this scenario, especially during the big "gimmick" in the middle. Honestly, the middle part was probably the most fun, but I would caution players that you get what you give in this scenario. If you roleplay your PC and have a good GM who knows how to handle combat and scene-setting, this scenario will be more fun than if you just sat at a table and droned on and on.
In my case, the final battle was rushed for time, which I felt cut out some of the experience, but the sheer amount of silly fun in the middle more than made up for it. However, I do wish there was just a little more creativity involved in the main gimmicky section. My group came up with a theatrical idea that went off without a hitch...but there was no real way of handling that in the scenario. So our GM had to come up with something on the fly without deviating from the scenario, which was a bit rough. All in all, the middle part could probably stand to be shortened a bit, as well as having a bit more variety (we over-prepared for it, to be honest) and maybe some sort of bonuses for off-the-wall thinking, but otherwise this scenario is in my top 5. I would play this again even if I didn't get credit for it just for kicks.
TL;DR: This scenario is guaranteed to cause laughter and fun, whether you are a new player or a veteran.
To any Paizo staff who see this review, please make more Sewer Dragon missions in the future. I would love to see what else these crazy, megalomaniacal, scaly fellows can do!

4/5

Overall, the scenario was pretty good with one of the most memorable NPCs I've seen in PFS. The pregens have some issues, especially being created where there main ability is completely negated in certain encounters. There are some other issues, but for the most part I felt like the scenario overcame all of them. However, the final encounter is far better as a social encounter than a fight.

The scenario actually starts off with a number of the same issues that turned into one of my least favorite scenarios, but manages them all pretty well. 1. You aren't really playing your character - but since you know this going in it's not that big a deal, IMO. 2. A new funky mechanic that takes 50+% of the time at the table. I found it to be fun, but long and at times seemed to drag the play down. 3. Single enemy BBEG on the top (not bottom this time) of a tower. If you go for the social encounter it works really well, otherwise the BBEG gets some advantage via environment that helps.

Honestly, if it weren't for a couple of the NPCs this one would probably be closer to 3 stars, but they were so good that it added an extra star.

It's unfortunate for us too because we only just got a 3-star last month. Maybe someday we can run this in our little burg.

What you need to do Kevin is organize a game day and sweet talk Myron Pauls from Winnipeg into coming out and running both of the exclusives for whomever wants to play them. Bribing him might be good, putting him up in a nice hotel or something might go a long ways too. If you could talk Scott Young into coming with him, he could run Serpent's Rise while Myron runs True Dragons.

Something to think about. Back when we only had one VO/5-star in Michigan, Doug Miles would go all over the state to run the exclusives for people. If you reach out to them, they just might be willing to help you out. I know I really enjoy running both of the exclusives and if someone offered me a place to stay and maybe a meal I'd be willing to drive a few hours to run them for a group.

We've got a Gamesday coming up next month, and could provide free pizza, but Myron and the others will be running the exclusives at their Convocation this weekend. Because of the limited number of 5-stars, the players were drawn via lottery. We'd likely have to do the same thing.

Is there any way we could remove the watermark on the pregens we hand out? For security purposes I don't like to give out my paizo.com email address to people at conventions.

Spoiler:

Especially because I bet players will want to keep their pregen.

Heya, we just pushed through a fix for this, and the pregens are now provided to folks who have this scenario as a separate unwatermarked file. If you redownload, you'll be able to grab them :)

True Dragons of Absalom is an exclusive scenario intended only for 5 Star GMs in the Pathfinder Society organized play campaign. It is not purchasable as other PFS scenarios are.

So what's your point?
You know, TriOmegaZero, if you click on the name of the poster, then on their profile (if not already there) it will show you the number of GM stars they have, if any. You should try it sometime.
Anyone at Piazo have a better reply?

Shadow Lodge

You don't buy it. If it's not already in your downloads you'll need to contact customer service about it.

Ahhh... thank you, I'll check my downloads.

So not to resurrect a dormant thread, but I was curious...
When applying credit, do you apply the credit when the character hits the tier (3-5) if not there already or do you wait until the character hits level 4 (the level of the NPC)

Scenarios like this are applied when the character reaches any level within the tier.

pdf2jpg.com

There was comment made that this in now a four star and not tied to convention play... is that correct?

Best adventure. Kobolds Rule, goblins drool. 5/5 stars.

This scenario is a 5-star exclusive. However, it is not limited to conventions.

Good idea. I declare you an honorary Kobold.

Is this still a 5-star exclusive?

Still 5-Star exclusive.

Boon Question:
The field commission, can it be used on characters other than the one the chronicle is applied to? I have a character who has leveled to 7, so technically cannot play as a 4th Level pregen. Can I cross off the boon and use the pregen on a separate character?

Any chance this might one day get "declassified"? It's been more than four years, and it's the old edition...

That would be really nice. If nothing else, I darn sure would like to just be able to READ it. But I know a lot of players who love kobolds. Idk how doable it will be for me to ever get to five stars at this point with the whole new edition thing. :( If it at least lowered to 4, four stars MIGHT be something to striveable and still attainable with work, if its as fun as people say. I sure would like to have it and see for myself. This also sounds like it would be awfully fun to run in a home game.
