A Pathfinder Society Scenario designed for 4th-level pregenerated characters.

For several years, the Pathfinder Society has enjoyed a mutually beneficial alliance with the Sewer Dragons, the dominant tribe of kobolds living beneath Absalom. When an elite patrol discovers a wounded member of the Society with a desperate message, the Sewer Dragons must move quickly intercept an extraordinary threat from seizing their territory—if not Absalom itself! In this special adventure the players portray kobolds as unlikely defenders of the City at the Center of the World using 4th-level pregenerated characters.

Written by Thurston Hillman.

Note: True Dragons of Absalom is a limited release scenario. It may be run anywhere, but only by 5-star GMs. Venture-Officers may only run this scenario if they meet this star rating requirement.

Kobolds Rule, Goblins Don't!

5/5

I loved the scenario, as well as everyone and everything in it. Plus, the boon alone would have gotten me to try to play this. Though that's mainly favouritism speaking.

The problem is, there's so much fun, intriguing stuff in here that it's hard to fit it all in on time. Especially considering the nature of the pregens, you're basically encouraged to over-think everything. Add that to the fact that the special bit roughly halfway through the scenario can easily be over-thought, and players who can't co-ordinate can run out of time before even that part's over.

So if everyone can keep that in mind, they're in for a delightful scenario (and a big surprise for the other players in their next scenario!)

Too long to play

1/5

In a 4 hour slot we barely had time for the first two encounters. Then the GM told us how early in the scenario we were, and gave us 0 prestige because we didn't have a chance in hell of finishing it in less than a full day. This is the length of an adventure path, not a scenario. Would be fun if you have many sessions to play it.

Did not deliver on expectations for a 5-star exclusive

3/5

Going in for this scenario my expectations where high: I have played Serpents Rise and had a blast. This is a 5-star exclusive, so I should have at least as much fun, right?

Wrong...

The author crammed a lot of combats in this scenario, meaning that our GM had to be liberal with his GM'ing (calling combats early) and even then we barely finished within the 5 hour mark. At the start of the scenario there is opportunity for roleplay (with a wonderful NPC!), but after that it is mainly a lot of combat. I do note that other reviewers imply that the last combat can be a social encounter, but we did not see it.

What I really liked about Serpents Rise is that I felt that each pregen got an opportunity to experience character growth. With this scenario I did not feel that, which is a shame.

All in all I would have preferred to play another scenario with one of my own characters rather than playing this one. Especially when it is a 5-star exclusive I do expect more.

Kobold or go home!

5/5

Every now and then you stumble across a scenario that just blows you of the water. This is one of them. Every single thing about this scenario is amazing. It's like We Be Goblins went on steroids and not only maintained the same level of quality, but even improved on it. To that I can only say 'bravo'.

Each of the pregens feels unique, acts in a different way and has a nice gimmick to him or her. It takes hardly any effort to quickly understand what every kobold is about. It just works like a charm. Even the NPC are more than just memorable, so hold on to your Hats for this rollercoaster of a ride. It literally will take you from one laugh to the next, all while following an epic journey, at least for these lovely small creatures. I really hope to see more of this, preferably with the same cute kobolds.

In conclusion I'll say the same thing here as I've already told people face-to-face in real life: if given the opportunity to play this scenario, do not hesitate and go for it. Pregens might not be your thing, but without any doubt you're going to love these kobolds.

Fun!

5/5

I ran another session of True Dragons of Absalom this past Sunday. This has become my favorite scenario! I've now run it eight times and played it once. I feel like I could run and/or play it a bunch more and it would not "get old" for me.

For those who might run it and saw the comments about the "middle part" from others: I used a timer to keep the length under control. (Else all your players are likely to over-prepare.) I felt like it helped give a sense of urgency to the table. (We have to hurry and do X before Y happens!)

It's unfortunate for us too because we only just got a 3-star last month. Maybe someday we can run this in our little burg.

What you need to do Kevin is organize a game day and sweet talk Myron Pauls from Winnipeg into coming out and running both of the exclusives for whomever wants to play them. Bribing him might be good, putting him up in a nice hotel or something might go a long ways too. If you could talk Scott Young into coming with him, he could run Serpent's Rise while Myron runs True Dragons.

Something to think about. Back when we only had one VO/5-star in Michigan, Doug Miles would go all over the state to run the exclusives for people. If you reach out to them, they just might be willing to help you out. I know I really enjoy running both of the exclusives and if someone offered me a place to stay and maybe a meal I'd be willing to drive a few hours to run them for a group.

We've got a Gamesday coming up next month, and could provide free pizza, but Myron and the others will be running the exclusives at their Convocation this weekend. Because of the limited number of 5-stars, the players were drawn via lottery. We'd likely have to do the same thing.

Is there any way we could remove the watermark on the pregens we hand out? For security purposes I don't like to give out my paizo.com email address to people at conventions.

Spoiler:

Especially because I bet players will want to keep their pregen.

Heya, we just pushed through a fix for this, and the pregens are now provided to folks who have this scenario as a separate unwatermarked file. If you redownload, you'll be able to grab them :)

True Dragons of Absalom is an exclusive scenario intended only for 5 Star GMs in the Pathfinder Society organized play campaign. It is not purchasable as other PFS scenarios are.

So what's your point?
You know, TriOmegaZero, if you click on the name of the poster, then on their profile (if not already there) it will show you the number of GM stars they have, if any. You should try it sometime.
Anyone at Piazo have a better reply?

Shadow Lodge

You don't buy it. If it's not already in your downloads you'll need to contact customer service about it.

Ahhh... thank you, I'll check my downloads.

So not to resurrect a dormant thread, but I was curious...
When applying credit, do you apply the credit when the character hits the tier (3-5) if not there already or do you wait until the character hits level 4 (the level of the NPC)

Scenarios like this are applied when the character reaches any level within the tier.

There was comment made that this in now a four star and not tied to convention play... is that correct?

This scenario is a 5-star exclusive. However, it is not limited to conventions.

Good idea. I declare you an honorary Kobold.

Is this still a 5-star exclusive?

Still 5-Star exclusive.

Boon Question:
The field commission, can it be used on characters other than the one the chronicle is applied to? I have a character who has leveled to 7, so technically cannot play as a 4th Level pregen. Can I cross off the boon and use the pregen on a separate character?

Any chance this might one day get "declassified"? It's been more than four years, and it's the old edition...

That would be really nice. If nothing else, I darn sure would like to just be able to READ it. But I know a lot of players who love kobolds. Idk how doable it will be for me to ever get to five stars at this point with the whole new edition thing. :( If it at least lowered to 4, four stars MIGHT be something to striveable and still attainable with work, if its as fun as people say. I sure would like to have it and see for myself. This also sounds like it would be awfully fun to run in a home game.
